Mexico issues advisory for Arizona

Mexico's Foreign Ministry on Tuesday issued an advisory to Mexicans living and working in Arizona following the signing of a controversial law to stem illegal immigration in that state.

In Arizona "there is a negative political environment for migrant communities and for all Mexican visitors," the advisory states.

The new law requires Arizona police to determine whether people are in the United States legally if there is a reason to suspect they aren't.

Although the new law doesn't go into effect until 90 days after the close of the state's legislative session, the Mexican government advised its citizens in Arizona to begin carrying all immigration documents with them immediately "to avoid needless confrontations."

Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer, a Republican, signed the controversial legislation into law Friday. Supporters say it is needed to control illegal immigration.

The advisory points Mexicans in Arizona to the state's five Mexican consulates for legal advice if they feel they have been subjected to abuse by authorities.

"As long as no clear criteria are defined for when, where and who the authorities will inspect, it must be assumed that every Mexican citizen may be harassed and questioned without further cause at any time," the advisory states.

nice FAKE message Manny - IF YOU EARN MINIMUM WAGE, you pay NO FEDERAL INCOME TAX - but you do have FICA deductions for Social security and Medicare - since illegals are never goning to collect social security or Medicare (they are not going to retire here - we get to keep their money -- illegals do pay sales tax

European immigration in the 1900's, 20's and 30's was about the same as hispanic LEGAL immigration today

DON'T FORGET ARIZONA WAS MEXICO - WE STOLE IT IN A WAR - SPANISH IS THE DOMINANT LANGUAGE - we fought Mexico because they did not have the MORALS to let the Texans own slaves

"This is awesome! Maybe if every state creates a similar law they will eventually get the picture that we are not putting up with their illegal immigration!"

Love this comment – why not just say, "Messicans, we don't want no dirty messicans..."?

I am amazed at how quickly ignorant people will overlook the Constituion for personal comfort. If emotions ran this country, we'd be where we are...today.

There seems to be many illegal persons living in the U.S. Some wish to do harm here and others if they want to stay should abide by our laws and apply to be a citizen.
The U.S. government doesn't seem to be really doing its job to screen people coming in to the U.S. There is still a large threat for violent actions against us. If you are living outside the U.S. you must show documents, so why should we be different. We have been too easy too long.

We should check the status of all the "White Meth Mouths" running around Arizona, since most of the poplulation is compromised of these people... Deport them too!!!!!

JM lets use your logic for a second. Meth and crime associated with it is largely viewed as being committed by "white people". So should we not prosecute crimes related to meth because it unfairly prosecutes poor white people who are just trying to provide a better living by selling meth?

    Sounds pretty stupid huh?

Illegal is not a race its a crime

Why so many illegal immigrants? Because AMERICANS will look the other way and pay them half of what they would pay a legal immigrant – think about it!

People who say things such as "if you're not illegal, you don't need to worry" are either very ignorant of the underlying issue with this legislation or they're intentionally misrepresenting the issue (I suspect the latter in most cases).

Exactly "HOW" do people expect that police will select individuals to stop/detain and ask for immigration papers? DUH ...we all know the answer. They'll focus on people who are hispanic in appearance .

I remember another Government that had special provisions for a certain race of people. The Gov't in question gained support for "their " racist positions via constant and ongoing fear mongering . Thai Gov't asked the the "special" race to wear yellow stars on their clothing. Yes, they were the Nazis. Their "special" race were the Jewish people.

Republican racists aren't going quite that far YET . For now, they'll only demand that the "special race" carry certain papers at all times.

Republicans are GUARANTEEING the Democrats reelection with their wacko far right agendas.

Sounds like East Germany back in the Cold War days. Don't forget your papers, or you'll be thrown in jail. I guess you need your passport in Canada, Mexico, and now Arizona.

If you are here legally you have nothing to worry about. If you commit a crime or get pulled over for a driving violation then you may be reqeusted to show you are here legally. I am from a family of immigrants, my grandfather and my husband. They both came here legally and stayed legally. Americans welcome legal aliens. Its those that are here illegally that need to be targeted. I hope my state, California, follows Arizona's example.
As for some of the comments, how would we feel if we were torn away from our family, our job our life. We would feel awful, but if we entered illegally we knew this could have happened. I live out in the delta area where aparagus, pears, grapes, etc are grown. There were all nationalities who worked in the field, white, brown, black. Now only latin decents (mexicans, etc) work the fields because they are the ones who will work under minimum wage. The farmers are exploiting them and expect them to be happy about the little wage they got. If it was all legal workers the wage would be at least minimum if not higher.
