Mexico issues advisory for Arizona

Mexico's Foreign Ministry on Tuesday issued an advisory to Mexicans living and working in Arizona following the signing of a controversial law to stem illegal immigration in that state.

In Arizona "there is a negative political environment for migrant communities and for all Mexican visitors," the advisory states.

The new law requires Arizona police to determine whether people are in the United States legally if there is a reason to suspect they aren't.

Although the new law doesn't go into effect until 90 days after the close of the state's legislative session, the Mexican government advised its citizens in Arizona to begin carrying all immigration documents with them immediately "to avoid needless confrontations."

Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer, a Republican, signed the controversial legislation into law Friday. Supporters say it is needed to control illegal immigration.

The advisory points Mexicans in Arizona to the state's five Mexican consulates for legal advice if they feel they have been subjected to abuse by authorities.

"As long as no clear criteria are defined for when, where and who the authorities will inspect, it must be assumed that every Mexican citizen may be harassed and questioned without further cause at any time," the advisory states.

Chris NM – most states verify lawful immigration status prior to issuing their state issued identification (driver's license or ID card). 9 states do not and one of those 9 is New Mexico. No one calls the other 40 states in the US racist because they ask for proof of immigration status or citizenship before you can get an ID or driver's license.

I have educated myself about AZ state laws because I live in AZ. I obey AZ state laws because I live in AZ.

What is the point of this law if nothing will come out of it? AZ looks like your budget went from a negative to oblivion.

The problem with Republicans: greedy, whiny, arrogant.....everyone's doing them wrong who don't share their faith, skin color, sexual fantasies, and ANGER!! Put a sock in it for once, you constant complainers, try to get one long, steady minute of enjoyment out of your desperate lives.......shoot, you've got some good ideas....yet you always seem ready to shoot your fellow man with a gun....and that's ok?

The Arizona Governor has insisted that this legislation will not impact the State's economy... Now let's see... – From the viewpoint of a Canadian Snowbird.. who is supporting the Arizona economy for SIX months of the year... perhaps that statement is not entirely true.

We support... campgrounds, resorts, gas stations, stores, restaurants, etc., and pay all applicable taxes.

Since we also come in all colors, and since the only way that "profiling" will not be used to determine status, then we can assume that we can, and will be pulled over and asked for documentation. We have already provided documentation at the border, and usually don't carry it with us daily (for security).

In any case, documentation is probably irrelevant. Isnt this the State that has passed legislation to force President Obama to prove his legal qualification to run in the next election? Since he has a birth certificate, which has been vetted and on line, which is not acceptable, why would I think that my passport and birth certificate would pass scrutiny.

Well.... anyway.... I think Florida could use my money next winter. I look forward to it!

    To thezar
YES, white people will also be asked for proof of status. Since I am WHITE if I have to carry those documents then so be it! I have no issues with being asked...I am not here illegally (and speak fluent ENGLISH).
You can't believe this is happening in America? You sound a little nervous. Its happening because so many people have come here (FACT: largely from Mexico) illegally and feel ENTITLED to stay here and take whatever they can get when they are in fact, NOT entitled to it. We are all children of immigrants you say (gosh, haven't heard that one before)? For the most part yes but (Native Americans were already here) the difference is those immigrants came here LEGALLY. What's next...gold star...yeah, that's another one that's been overused by the illegals and their sympathizers. All about the drama arent you regardless of the fact that there is nothing similar.
The US needs to get rid of all illegals and focus on TAKING CARE OF OUR OWN people! Those would include: US citizens, legal immigrants and those approved with VISA's and other proper legal documentation.

Hey, here's an idea. When a cop asks a brownie for papers and he has them, let's give them a gold star that they can put on their chests, that way they dont have to stop them again. And if they don't have any papers we can just tattoo a serial number on their foreheads, That way there will be no chance of them coming back across the border. And maybe we could put them in camps, so we can get some work out of them before we send them back. We wont have to feed them much i think, And then we can give them a shower..... Yup the high minded ideals of the american people. What a joke.

    All Heil Arizona.

What people don't realize is that this law is discrimantory to everyone in Arizona. To think citizens of this country will have to carry passports within their own country so they wouldn't get arrested. To those who think this law is acceptable, If you have a foreign fiirst name or last name you will immediately be suspected even if you are white. The only people who would be safe are people that have an english speaking name like James Smith. Why should a cop believe your an american citizen if your names is Alfred Hines. Should they believe your an American citizen if you show them your dirver's license or your "papers". Becuase that's what Arizonians will have to carry if they wished no to be harrased by police who suspect their not from here. The police are not robots their human beings like everyone else and like human beings they make mistakes. And this law will do nothing to stem illegal immigration. As long as their is a demand for cheap labor they will continue to cross the border. If these people are desperate enough to climb a fence or crawl through a sewer to have a better chance of having a good life, what makes you think a facist law like this will stop them?

I travel extensively for work. In every airport I have to show who I am which is entered into a database to ensure that I am not a terrorist. I happen to appreciate this system and do not feel that I am being persecuted in any way, shape or form. Some of you watch way too many movies in regards to Nazi regimes asking for "papers". Let me ask you one question. Your daughter is hit and killed by a person that is three times the legal limit. You find out that the person that took your daughter, an American citizen, has been deported six times before. This is not a one time story in Arizona. The Federal Government has turned a deaf ear on the problem and this includes our former Governer!
It may take some time to get this right but it is well worth it.

Here is a Mexican that knows how to speak/write/spell English better than half of the "Americans" commenting in here. READ THIS! YOU CAN'T STOP US! We make you way too much money. Everything you do to try to stop us from coming in only fails miserably. We're here to stay and that hurts you. Look around in your towns and we're everywhere. We're taking over and the US GOVT can't help you. Everything is in Spanish because we're going to be the majority soon. Get it thru your redneck brains. We're not going nowhere! If you don't believe me, ask the construction company where his roofers are from. Or how about the landscaping company, or the fast food restaurants, or any other business that requires any type of hard labor. What do you say now?

Hey Just stupid 1308, You make a good argument, by profiling people who are agianst losing thier rights you point out exactely why shouldn't give free reign to people like you. I cannot speak for others but I am a Ph.D. and probably work much harder, more hours and give back more to society than you, so please if you are "just stupid" then stop commenting.

Skippy, you are an idiot. The law is one tool to address a problem with our southern border, which up until now has been lacking.

To all haters! Do you realize that if we didn't have all these "illigals" here we wouldn't have people working in our fields, restaurants, car washes, gardeners, housekeepers, etc. Do you think that our legal citizens will be doing these jobs at minimum wages? I know I wouldn't. Come on we need these people who are paying taxes without being able to claim income taxes!! That's money that the government keeps. Arizona since they are kicking all the illigals out should recruit all those homeless panhandlers in the streets in other states that sure look like 100% U.S. Citizens to me an make them work those jobs that will be available.
