Tea Partiers to illegal immigrants: 'Sign guestbook'

Lee Earle, left, and Ronald Ludders of Phoenix support Arizona's new immigration law.

Lee Earle, a self-identified “Tea Party facilitator” in Arizona, ground zero of the immigration debate, wants you to know that he supports immigration. He considers it the lifeblood of American society and the backbone of our economy – if it’s done legally.

“We want immigration. We need immigration! All we want is for people to sign the guestbook at the door,” said Earle, a Phoenix resident. “Being an illegal immigrant in Arizona is like trespassing. If you’re in my house and you’re not invited, then I have every right to send you out.”

Earle says he supports Arizona’s controversial new law targeting illegal immigration because it lets local law enforcement do what the federal government should be doing to stop people from entering the country unlawfully.

“When people come here without permission, when they come here illegally, they automatically become victims of the coyotes who bring them over and the employers who take advantage of their cheap labor,” Earle said. “Let them come legally so they can take advantage of all the wonderful services and opportunities this great nation has to offer and they can contribute in a meaningful way.”

Earle, a loquacious retiree who gesticulates frequently as he fires off in a stream-of-consciousness manner, shared his thoughts Tuesday night before a legislative district meeting at the Jumbo Buffet in a strip mall in southwest Phoenix.

Dressed in a Hawaiian shirt and jeans, his long gray hair pulled back, Earle said he blames health care, education and incarceration for illegal immigrants for contributing to the state’s $2 billion budget deficit.

“It’s a monetary thing for the state, because I’m a taxpayer but also a human concerned because they can’t take advantage of our legal system because they’re afraid of being deported,” he said.

Earle’s friend and fellow Tea Partier Ronald Ludders dismissed with a wave of the hand the suggestion that the bill encourages racial profiling.

“Illegal is not a race," said Ludders, who, like Earle, is a Republican precinct committeeman for his legislative district. “Law enforcement will be looking for people who they have reasonable suspicion to believe are breaking the law. They cannot stop them based on the color of their skin.”

Both men say this is not about hating Hispanics: Ludders has a home in Mexico, and Earle lives in a predominantly Hispanic neighborhood.

“This is about fixing a problem that has been plaguing our communities for a long time. If the federal government isn’t going to do anything, I’m proud of Arizona for stepping up to the plate,” Earle said.

Hey Kevin how about the fact that the person can't speak English or speaks broken English?

It's low brow individuals like Tong Knots, spreading false information, that are hyping the issue. They are NOT going to be allowed to stop anybody and everybody just because they look hispanic! Police will still only be allowed to ask for documentation if you are breaking a law or behaving suspiciously. So yes, the 50 hispanic men hanging around Home Depot looking for a day labor job might have to stop loitering, but the rest of the illegals who are obeying laws and being productive don't need to get their panties in a wad. They just need to work on becoming legal.

Obviously the Governor of Arizona reacted to GOP/Tea Party pressures and is blaming the Government. The Tea Partiers stand for less government but here they are blaming the Federal government for not doing enough. Flipped and Flopped!

    Illegal is Illegal.

If you are doing something illegal and you get CAUGHT (as if NONE of you hippocrits are doing anything illegal – i.e rolling through a stop-sign, speeding, littering, having a couple of 'pops' at the bar before driving home, not listing EVERYTHING on your taxes, etc. etc.) then you are going to have to pay the consequences. No duh. I dig it. And I would do it.

Here is the issue: Is this way the BEST way to go about it? Can we not do something differently and get the same result as we THINK we are going to get? I know, I know..."the FEDS are supposed to be doing something!" you cry. I thought that we wanted smaller government so....anyway...weird that you want BIGGER government when it suits you....hmmm...

Here is the problem: IF you are here LEGALLY and IF you LOOK Hispanic (let's get with reality here in acknowledging that not ONE white guy, asian guy or hell, even BLACK guy – will get stopped for THIS particular law) you COULD get pulled over/stopped as MANY TIMES IN THE DAY AS A COP SEES YOU. 1 time. 5 times. 30 times.

If you are here LEGALLY than that SUCKS very badly. How much time and money are you going to waste by having this happen numerous times?

Again, since it isn't YOUR race then you are cool with it because you'll NEVER be pulled over 5 times in one day unless you are a speed-freak in your car. And then you are just a dumb-a$$.

So, let's say it like it is:

Illegals don't like it because they could get deported (but they WOULD get deported ANYWAY if they were found to be here illegally).

Illegal HISPANICS don't like it because everyone in Arizona thinks that ALL Hispanics (or the greater majority of them) are Illegal and they KNOW they will be the only ones pulled over for 'looking' illegal (because there is no TRAINING on Earth that lets someone spot an illegal based on something OTHER than looks). I'd love to see the genius who finally figures out how...

Legal HISPANICS don't like it because they are going to get pulled over and questioned AS MUCH as Illegal ones because they...*gasp*...LOOK exactly like the ILLEGAL Hispanics (go figure WHY they'd be pissed).

Illegal Canadians, Belgiums, Germans, etc. could give a rat's a$$ because they KNOW no one will be pulling THEM over because they aren't EASILY identifiable as being "Illegal".

White guys from America like it because...well...OTHER white guys told them to like it.

Just the facts folks. Just the facts.

For those people saying stop the employers who hire illegals. This law ALSO gives police the ability to do just that.

and yet another old whited man is going to tell me how to think – not quite there, dude. Once YOU have to carry paperwork with you every where THEN come back. You certainly seem old enough to have been around in the late 20 & the 30's in Germany. Ring any bells?

Texan- Matt – That is a good idea – however the first time the INS starts checking the hotel chains and their cleaning crew or the workers in the field your going to have other groups screaming that they are "profiling" those occupations.

    Posted by: Texan

INS doesn't have to "profile" but rather work with the Social Security Administration. All businesses are required to turn in wages to SSA (Name, SSN, etc) on a W2/1099. If the name does not match the SSN, then the SSA sends a letter to the employer informing them of a "no-match". The Employer then has to provide the employee 30 days to go to a Social Security office and prove that they are who they say they are. The printout the employee receives from the SSA must be submitted to the employer in order to continue working.

I used to work at one of the largest payroll companies in America and let me tell you in all my years there this happened ONCE. Easiest solution is to go after the employers! Every business owner can verify a social security number for an employee, all they have to do is register online with the SSA. If you can't verify it on the first day of work then you are fired, easy as that! If all employers did business LEGALLY then we wouldn't have this ILLEGAL problem.

    @Below average dud.
What's so hard about carrying an ID around? You are required to carry an ID when you drive a vehicle. Carry an ID with you, problem solved. The comparisons of "rounding them up" and "nazi-like' is pretty lame. They are here ILLEGALLY if you cannot provide proof then get the F-OUT!!!

This bill is absolutely fine, so long as they apply it to all races equally, and can document the statistical numbers to prove they have invoked it equally on every ethnicity.

However, if they can not....then it's nothing less then the beginning of Nazi Germany.

Bush hid on this issue too! Once again, the Democrats want to take up this issue, and once again, the Republicans are saying NO!

Everyone is so gung-ho on this new law for our beautiful state, they must know something I don't. Maybe the cops will be given magic wands they can wave to tell the "good Mexicans" from the "bad Mexicans" before they subject them to unreasonable search and seizure. I personally feel very lucky that I am a whitey this week. Our Hispanic neighborhoods are already starting to slow down because people are afraid to even walk around outside. Thanks a lot, teabaggers.

I have defended you many many times Mr. President. I know you care I can see it and I feel it greatly. It seems you roll like I always imagined anyone lucky enough to go to Washington to represent the People would be Humbled and excited to do the peoples bidding and always doing the right thing. In Spikes way! Man you really have blown me away. Your so on it with everything. So I know you think you are making the right decision by alowing 20 million (thats what I see) people to gain legal access by skirting the system. Your wrong on this one. You think there integrated and it will be absorbed. Your right about that. My children will be competing with the children of the Illegals for the few jobs left in a new economy that will never come close to having half the jobs than there are people searching. On a resource standpoint its a catastophe. The clock is ticking on waste and we certainly don't need to add to it. YOU may think that you are right in your conclusions about this Mexican Invasian. BUT AMERICANS WANT THEM GONE. You see you have been flying high since you first started in state govnmnt but down here on the GROUND we can feel how bad the senario of committing 20 million soon to be 100 million COMPETING HUMANS into what we have to deal with down here. I don't know wether you think you should do what you think is right or what all of your constituents DEMAND. Please don't change the dynamic of our society we are still learning to be color blind and you want to put this onto us? Look, if Mexico wants to talk about joining our union FINE Lets talk. But if they want to keep there BORDERS and stature then FINE but that means keeping our BORDERS!!!!!!! MAN YOUR A MONDERN DAY MASIAH TO ME. But if you give all these JOB STEALING RESOURCE STEALING COMMUNITY CRUSHING TRESPASSERS AMNESTY, Then your not with americans your with Illegals. We don't want Hispanics out. Hell if I was in there possition I would sneak in too. Thats the problem we cannot handle this INVASIAN any longer. And in the new economy we would all like any of the JOBS these ILLEGALS are doing. The statistics that are being thrown around about jobs is wrong. THERE are NO JOBS and its only going to get worse. PLEASE PLEASE WAKE UP!!!!!!!! You see your health care bill was like 50 50 but if you read anywhere on this topic 90% of AMERICA is SAYING PLEASE DON'T DO THIS TO US. We need those JOBS and RESOURCES and COMMUNITY SPACE for Americans and those who will come in the future. Please if you want to help america then help AMERICANS. NOT ILLEGAL COMPETING TRESPASSERS

And it might surprise some of you to find out that in 1996 the state of Illinois had more illegal immigrants than Arizona; and I'd bet they still do.

The guy is 100% correct. The Federal Gov't should have the cajones to pass a similar measure. Unfornately, our Federal leadership has no backbone. They have lips that could suck a bowling ball through a garden hose (good for butt-kissing), but no backbone....

Bruce – I suggest you reread the US Constitution and then consider what the Supreme Court has said - The Bill of Rights applies to those who are citizens or are here legally.
