U.S. officials: Insurgencies overwhelming Pakistan

U.S. officials say Pakistan is a “nation under siege” and faces a “herculean” task in dealing with multiple insurgencies — but better co-operation between Washington and Islamabad is reaping dividends.

That was the message from senior Administration officials and U.S. military officers at a committee hearing on Capitol Hill on Thursday.

Lt. Gen.  John Paxton Jr., Director of Operations for the Joint Chiefs of Staff, said Pakistan was a “nation under threat or a nation under siege … and they realize that they have to respond now.” Without a sense of urgency, he said, "things could conceivably get worse, and get worse quickly."

The Pakistanis do not provide any indication that they are in danger, not in public statements, not in the media, but an American knows that Pakistan is being overwhelmed by terrorism..... is it not starange ... ?

Looks like the Americans are preparing grounds for their next move on the chess board of geo-politics !

As long as they remain an Islamic state, they will have the death, destruction and violence that are part and parcel of Islam. Islam is what drives the insurgents.

    For Barry 77:

Search an article "The ABC of Jihad" on Washington post and then you might understand how your conclusion is not based on facts. Some other topics that you might want to read about include Operation Cyclone and Ajax.

These militants are end result of policies of Cold War era amid to radicalize the Muslim population so they would resist communism violently especially in Afghanistan.
These efforts even included supplying books to children of Afghanistan which instructed them to do Jihad against Soviets; now some naive person might associate these books by directly inspired by Quran but in fact they were published by University of Nebraska paid for by CIA.

Ignorance is the opium of the masses.

WOw – how absolutely scary is Pakistan? A fanatical Muslim country WITH nuclear weapons and a military FILLED with al Quaeda sympathizers. It is THE most dangerous place on the planet. I used to think that at least our military knows where they have their nukes, but I recently read we may NOT know where they all are.

Fun times to come for sure...
