Congressman arrested at immigration rally

Police arrested Illinois Rep. Luis Gutierrez at an immigration rally outside the White House on Saturday.
Gutierrez, a Democrat, was among a group of protesters arrested by police in front of the White House.
The protesters wore T-shirts that read, "ARREST ME NOT MY FAMILY" and "ARREST ME NOT MY FRIENDS."

It is sad how quickly people forgot that OUR Parents, great-grand-parents, and great-great-grandparents were immigrants, too.
Sorry, this isn't YOUR country, MIKE.

Reopen Ellis Island cause unless your family came from there some people just don't care how few people are really allowed into this country legally versus how many want to come and have to sneak in America. This country is built on immigration. Duh!

HEY MARTINEZ look how many illegal aliens are in jail for other crimes other than immigration violations, Yes they are using up the tax dollars, it cost about 2 billion dollars a year in SETexas to support these people, in the emergency rooms, oh yea you forgot they can get medical at an emergency room because nobody checks immigration status at hospitals and by the way; the day labors won't take a paycheck they are paid daily in cash. LIKE I SAID GET RID OF ALL ILLEGALS

Hey winthrop, Tell you what, why dont you try to illegally cross over to mexico and see what happens to you. Try crossing into Iran from one of the borders. (I am pretty sure that 3 americans are beinging held) we are pretty much the only country that does not enforce our borders and this country has been going down hill quickly.

I was under the impression that Congresspersons were expected to respect the rule of law. I guess one is exempt when the issue has to do with unauthorized persons (illegal Mexicans) violating OUR sovereignty. I do not blame the hard working illegal Mexicans. If I were from a corrupt, dysfunction country such as Mexico, I would leave as well. Mexico’s #1 import…..the U.S. dollar. Go figure.

This is not a civil rights issue, if your here illegally you have no rights. There is no grey area in illegal. It's a black and white. Black= legal, you stay. White=illegal, you go ! This is America, any immigrant from anywhere, you wanna live in OUR country? then speak and read OUR language.

I would just like to say that there is not declared official language in the U.S. It is standard practice to use english because that's what the majority speaks. However, there is no reason why a person shouldn't be able to speak a different language without knowing english. stop being so damn ethnocentric! This country was built by immigrants from all over the world, and our language now includes words from other languages! Why we think "americans" are one race, class, and language of people I don't know! look up your ancestry and i can guarantee you, you are NOT purely "american." Thank you, have nice day!

"If you're here legally, you shouldn't worry"... really? Why not? What exactly does an illegal immigrant look like? Is there something stopping officers in Arizona from stopping me and asking for proof of residency? Its obvious that I'm hispanic, so why couldn't they think that I'm here illegally?
I bet none of the illegal Europeans will get stopped.
Also, who the hell carries their green card or citizenship certificate on them at all times?
