Congressman arrested at immigration rally

Police arrested Illinois Rep. Luis Gutierrez at an immigration rally outside the White House on Saturday.
Gutierrez, a Democrat, was among a group of protesters arrested by police in front of the White House.
The protesters wore T-shirts that read, "ARREST ME NOT MY FAMILY" and "ARREST ME NOT MY FRIENDS."

The brave men and women who have fought and died for the cause of freedom did so to allow us all to live in peace and justice. The right to protest is fundamental to our freedoms. Should a person be arrested in the course of a protest, that's not a sign of a lack of patriotism on anybody's part. On the contrary, they're going to jail and they'll have their day in court to face the legal consequences of their actions. For all of you who are accusing the representative and all of the other protesters of acting unseemly, I would accuse you of being unpatriotic and unAmerican in your efforts to silence their voices. I'd also recommend that you steer clear ot Tea Party rallies, lest you be hypocrites.

Is he or members of his family illegal immigrants? If yes, then arrest him and his family members!

Are his friends illegal immigrants? If yes, arrest them also!

Why is he trying to protect illegal immigrants? This is all about ILLEGAL immigrants. It is NOT about LEGAL immigrants. This country needs LEGAL immigrants!

I am white, and I know I would not like it if I could be investigated without provocation to see if I am a real citizen or not. Put your selves in their shoes for once......This isnt right.

I'm as liberal as they come, but all the uproar regarding this law is ridiculous. There are many laws in this country that i'm not out cheering in the streets about, but I still respect and obey them as a citizen living in this country. Every immigrant who is here illegally is breaking the law: period. I am completely sympathetic to those who want a better life for themselves and their family. But, until you go through the steps that every legally naturalized person here does, you really don't have much ground to stand on. This country, or the rest of the world for that matter, owes you/me nothing. Even being able to work here in this country to better yourself is an's not owed to anyone, especially people who just decide they want to come over here against the law. People throwing around the term "civil liberties" to justify their objection to this issue are insulting the myriads of minorities that came before them whose protest in favor of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness in this country was based on equal rights of citizens here legally. If you're here illegally (i.e. not a citizen) you have no room to protest. Sorry.

Unless Americans are willing to open our borders fully to every individual from every country the policy for Hispanics that these people and Rep Gutierrez promotes is racist.

Let all Americans decide if we want a country of a billion people where we might be able to compete with the Chinese and India because we will have become just like them....overpopulated and poor and willing to work for the same wages as Chinese.

Of course the elite Wall Streeters will still be rich (even richer) and have their special gated fortified places but the rest will live in 100 square foot cubicles as they do in Asia.

My preference is a US Culture (not the lawless Mexican drug culture or Chinese regimentation) where we have a strong middle class and not an overpopulated country of which we are quickly becoming. Our government needs to enforce the laws on the books and enforce punitive action against illegal hiring. If people came here illegally they need to find their way back home.

The ku klux klan, blacks, jews, crips, bloods, militias, we all need to come together and run these heathens back to south america, mexico, etc. They are a disgrace to our civilization. If that don't work, then we'll take matters in our own hands.

Living in California, I always use a route going through Arizona for vacation with family. What now Law enforcement can assume my family is illegal and want to pin our faces down on the concrete until we prove our innocence. Arizona will be shooting themselves in the foot anyway–Who will Do the Work -Its Very HOT !!

If you want to stop illegal aliens from entering the country, start arresting and prosecuting the business owners that provide them jobs and benefit from their slave labor.
