Judge: Accused milita members can get bond

Nine people federal prosecutors say belong to a "Christian warrior" militia can be released on bond until the criminal charges against them are resolved, a judge has ruled.

A federal grand jury has indicted the nine on charges of seditious conspiracy, attempted use of weapons of mass destruction, teaching the use of explosive materials and possessing a firearm during a crime of violence.

A WELL REGULATED Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.

    1. This is an insult to our law enforcement officers.
    2. These are the type of jokers that would yell "Fire!" in a theater. Threatening to shoot officers is even worse.
    3. Thanks to the wonderful members of NRA and the ACLU for their guidance and leadership for hiding behind legal interpretations.
    4. Politics is as nasty as organized religion.

I think they were arrested because Obama was coming to town. He was here for the U of M graduation this past weekend and now he's gone and they are being released. Just a bit weird how that worked out.

This is not a Christian group no matter how many scriptures they can quote. One they don't know. "If you live by the sword, you will die by the sword"

I guess if you are a christian terriorist it is ok. But if you are muslim terriorist then you will not get bail. I live in southeast michigan and we call these Hutaree people either the special ed gang or the hee haw gang. The problem that I have is releasing these potential cop killers on the very day that a detroit police officer is shot is crazy. Letting these people out at all is crazy.

Let's see they talked about killing law enforcement officers and started making bombs and other implements to do this...and they are free?

I would be edgy if I lived in their area.

The judge received pressure from the news and political commentary shows that their ratings are slumping and they need a new group of comical terrorists to boost ratings. It should be interesting how the plan on twisting their story about killing a cop and then killing more cops at his funeral. I can't wait for Sarah Palin to nominate one of them for some political seat.

Excuse my ignorance of this while thing but what the heck does planning to kill masses of police officers have ANYTHING to do with free speech? Has everyone lost their minds?

Though this case undoubtedly involves first amendment guarantees such as the freedom of speech and its attendant associational freedoms, that right is not implicated in the bond process. The issue merely reduces to one of risk, whether the militia members present a risk of flight. To claim this is a victory for freedom of speech is incorrect.

For all you idiots out there that think these people are going to still carry out their supposed attacks...Do you really think that the government is not keeping tabs on these individuals. That they just let them walk away without being monitored? If you believe that they are just running free then I really feel sorry for the future of this country because it is full of uninformed, loud mouthed idiots that believe anything that they hear or read. They are being watched.
