Obama extends sanctions against Syria

President Barack Obama has decided to extend sanctions on Syria, sending a letter to Congress Monday saying the yrians' continued support for terrorist organizations posed "a continuing unusual and extraordinary threat to the national security, foreign policy and economy of the United States."

The president said Syria had "made some progress in suppressing foreign fighter networks infiltrating suicide bombers into Iraq," but its "actions and policies" regarding terror networks made it necessary to keep the sanctions in place.

The economic sanctions, first enacted in 2003, bar exports to Syria and ban Syrian commercial aircraft from landing in the United States. "As we have communicated to the Syrian government directly, Syrian actions will determine whether this national emergency is renewed or terminated in the future," Obama's letter said.

Waw ...the U.S. is busy with many things...but it should not be with Syria...and the U.S. should stop bullying and fabricating and the west should abandon double-standard policy... Syria supports terrorist organization ...how come.....the world knows well that terrorism and Al-Qaeda are us products..Also, the U.S. is not seen from Syria for its security to be threatened; moreover, its bases all over the region can protect its economic interests... is this country going to change its mind and respect others..or the world has become addicted to the untruth..no white president nor black one works here....

To American Friends: Why dont you exercise your franchise in electing a President and administration and Congress of your own? Why does the Zionist need to do that for you? Your voting rights are applicable to electing the goverment and President of the USA. Dont confuse that with electing a President for the World. People across nations are intelligent enough to elect their own governments so stop talking about putting and changing right regimes or wrong regimes.

If you see an ugly face in the mirror, it is not the mirror which is ugly, it is the face. So first change your perception of the world and the nations and their people, and their perceptions would change for you automatically.

Israel and the Arab community are one in another. They all hate eache other and cause issues that go back hundered of years. There is no winner here...the USA needs to pcik one that less eveil than the other. In other words, sanctions should be placed on all countires that harbour and terrorists and that hinder people from living a free and life that we have in the USA.

Your way of life is what. Lying naked on the beaches with your kids and wife , abondaning your old and sick parents, indulging in fornication and illicit relationships, adultery, divorcing and remarrying till your libido cools off. What is your way of life that your so much cry about? If this is your way of life, then do you think that nations with rich and well rooted customs and culture and traditions want this from you.

Stop interfering in other peoples affair and put your own house in order first.

It does my heart good to see so many people and most of all americans who are so well informed. It seems the kool-aid drinkers are a minority on most of these posts. More and more people are reading between the lines. But our politicians are either still asleep with incompetence or are directly involved with promoting corruption

I think it's hilarious that we still have sanctions on Cuba.

As a Cuban, I'm very curious as to why you "think it's hilarious that we still have sanctions on Cuba."

Look Saidu ...the point is about sanctioning Syria ..we are not about terrorism and terrorists ....I agree that terror must be rooted out and tall terrorists must killed and beheaded but how ..with attacking innocent countries...it is unfair.....what the U.S. is saying, thinking and maybe planning is just bullying and flexing muscles .... and when you talk about terrorism please don't mention Islam..regardless of my religion, we all realize that terror has no religion nor a country..right...and finally, hope terrorism stays away from our families, I and you and all people in the world.. let us say to the US the world knows how it thinks and about the unilateral system...
