Picasso's “Nude, Green Leaves and Bust”
A Pablo Picasso painting fetched $106.5 million at auction Tuesday, a record for any single work of art, Christie's New York announced.
The bidding for the painting – “Nude, Green Leaves and Bust” – lasted nine minutes. Eight clients competed for the painting and it was eventually sold to an unidentified telephone bidder, Christie’s said.
The previous record was an Alberto Giacometti sculpture that sold for $104.3 in February. It, too, was bought by an anonymous bidder. The auction occurred at Sotheby’s in London.
I don't think that Picasso gave a damn about who liked his work. He was a true artist, he created for the sake of creation. His work was meant to push the boundaries of human creativity, not to please the masses..... For that, wall decor from Walmart was invented.

Saying painting must be beautiful is like saying music must only be about love. Ridiculous. Picasso cracked that one wide open over a century ago. Damn. The same people who are still stuck in past decades of music (the Stones...please...) are stuck in everything else, including what could possibly be art, because of nostalgia a.k.a. fear of the new.
