Minnesota man charged with stabbing 29 pigs

A drunk man stabbed 29 pigs in Minnesota, hurting them so badly they had to be slaughtered, according to charges filed against the man by police.

Curtis Adams, 23, said he did not remember stabbing the pigs, but did not deny having done it, Detective Matt Owens said in court papers.

A veterinarian said the best option was to "euthanize" the pigs, which were worth $7,824.67, according to police testimony.

Another police officer, Deputy Clint Cole, found Adams at a hog barn in Martin County, Minnesota, in the early hours of April 27, Owens said. Cole was responding to a suspicious person complaint.

"Adams' knuckles were skinned up and he had blood on them and smelled very strong like pigs and had pig manure on him," the police statement says.

Suspecting Adams was drunk, Cole had Adams stand on one leg and perform other tests to check sobriety. When he failed, Cole gave him a breathalyzer, which suggested Adams was over the legal limit.

He arrested Cole, later releasing him to a sober driver, police say.

Later that morning, workers at the Wiechman Pig Company, which owns the barn, discovered that a number of pigs had been cut.

Owens, the detective, went to the barn, where he met Adams, who was coming to retrieve his pickup truck from the scene.

Adams "had dried blood on his shirt, pants and shoes," Owens noticed.

Workers at the barn found a knife in the grass while the detective and Adams were there, he said.

Adams said the knife was his, according to the police officer.

"Adams did not deny being in the hog barn or stabbing the pigs, but he would only say that he could not remember," Owens said.

When he showed Adams photos of the injured pigs, "Adams stated that he must have done it, but he does not remember doing it," Owens stated.

Adams has been charged with six counts, including cruelty to animals, damage to property, burglary and driving under the influence of alcohol. The two most serious charges, burglary and damage to property, each carry potential penalties of five years in prison or $10,000 fine, or both.

It was not clear from Minnesota court records if a trial date has been set.

OK, what did they do with the pigs after slaughter? That's a lot of ham, pork chops, ribs, chitterlings, hog maws, pig feet, pig ears, pig knuckles, pig tails (shut-up Forrest).

Sounds like a Tea Party rally.

Unless you NEVER eat meat, you have no right to complain about how this is "brutal".

They slaughter pigs by slashing their necks. Enjoy your BLT, hypocrites.

You guys are taking up for pigs and denigrating a human being. It would be laughable if it was not such a sad commentary of misplaced priorities and twisted ideals.

Buried them with honor one hopes, for dying in the line of duty.

What goes on on the farm, stays on the farm, if you get my drift.

Pigs are smart, sensitive animals. They have the mental capacity of a 3 year old child. It's extremely cruel to kill them and eat them anyway. They shouldn't have to suffer lying around with stab wounds, and they shouldn't be ritually slaughtered just so people can kill themselves with fatty snacks. The whole thing sucks and I hope this loser gets jail time.

"Taking up for pigs and denigrating a human being".....

Where? Where was the human being in this article? There were innocent pigs and there
was a useless sack of s–t.

That's what I got from this article.

Throw the book at him. Keep him off the streets. Let him squeal like a piggie when he gets night visits in jail.

I can't help, given Curtis's nature, location, and his extreme inebriation, but to extrapolate from this story other crimes which may have been committed against these pigs.

I'm not saying that what he did was okay, but people need to realize that farm animals that are raised and slaughtered for food have it far worse. Anybody that doubts that needs to watch "Food, Inc." What is sad as that this guy will be fined and serve jail time, while worse happens every day in the food industry with nobody being held accountable for their actions.

Forsenic psychologists might say that Curtis was really killing the same pig, maybe one with which he had a past relationship, over and over again.

I can't believe this guy killed 29 cops. He should go to jail for a long time.
