Minnesota man charged with stabbing 29 pigs

A drunk man stabbed 29 pigs in Minnesota, hurting them so badly they had to be slaughtered, according to charges filed against the man by police.

Curtis Adams, 23, said he did not remember stabbing the pigs, but did not deny having done it, Detective Matt Owens said in court papers.

A veterinarian said the best option was to "euthanize" the pigs, which were worth $7,824.67, according to police testimony.

Another police officer, Deputy Clint Cole, found Adams at a hog barn in Martin County, Minnesota, in the early hours of April 27, Owens said. Cole was responding to a suspicious person complaint.

"Adams' knuckles were skinned up and he had blood on them and smelled very strong like pigs and had pig manure on him," the police statement says.

Suspecting Adams was drunk, Cole had Adams stand on one leg and perform other tests to check sobriety. When he failed, Cole gave him a breathalyzer, which suggested Adams was over the legal limit.

He arrested Cole, later releasing him to a sober driver, police say.

Later that morning, workers at the Wiechman Pig Company, which owns the barn, discovered that a number of pigs had been cut.

Owens, the detective, went to the barn, where he met Adams, who was coming to retrieve his pickup truck from the scene.

Adams "had dried blood on his shirt, pants and shoes," Owens noticed.

Workers at the barn found a knife in the grass while the detective and Adams were there, he said.

Adams said the knife was his, according to the police officer.

"Adams did not deny being in the hog barn or stabbing the pigs, but he would only say that he could not remember," Owens said.

When he showed Adams photos of the injured pigs, "Adams stated that he must have done it, but he does not remember doing it," Owens stated.

Adams has been charged with six counts, including cruelty to animals, damage to property, burglary and driving under the influence of alcohol. The two most serious charges, burglary and damage to property, each carry potential penalties of five years in prison or $10,000 fine, or both.

It was not clear from Minnesota court records if a trial date has been set.

This guy has a severe problem with Alchol. He apparently was in a "blackout" which is a all to common of a syptom of alcholism.

This guy needs to be held accountable for his crime, and maybe then he can "hit his bottom" and start on a road to recovery.

It matters not whether or not this miserable excuse for a human being would be likely to attack another human being. Animals suffer, feel pain, have souls, experince anguish and fear and are WORTHY OF OUR PROTECTION and obviously need it. Everyone should consider becoming an animal rights advocate. Everyone of us is needed to turn this terrible tide.

While it is true that pigs are slaughtered for food, I am surprised the some who comment do not see them as the sensitive animals they are, and see that what happened here was horrific. How frightened they must have been as this "gentleman" chased them around and stabbed and stabbed them. Animal cruelty is done by those who are emotionally damaged, and many go on to abuse their own children, pssing along the damange generation after generation. Those who comment about the conditions of animals raised for food are correct -BELIEVE ME, if you saw it, you would never eat another piece of meat. Your eyes would be opened. I have walked through a slaughterhouse and seen it for myself. Meanwhile, I hope everyone will take another look at animals, who have many of the same feelings as humans . . affection, fear, pain . . . and vow to take better care of each and every one.

Are you out of your mind by putting up such a post on a public forum? Not funny and might even be criminal.

ok so do you guys want to know how pigs get processed at the farm? We shoot them in the head with a .22 then cut the throat let em' hang for a while. then when they are all bleed out cut them open, skin them and process. Thats how pork chops are made!
Not siding with the kid, I mean come on I have had some wicked black out all involving passing out so how he can't remember stabbing 29 pigs is a little ridiculous.

Odd that huge meat companies get away with slaughtering millions – no fines... Just sweet sweet profit. Not justifying this guy, just saying it's funny how they would charge him with cruelty to animals among the other charges.

This is the third knife related story I've read in as many days. This is yet another reason why we need a national ban on knives. It would completelly eliminate this type of crime. People don't kill, knives do!

The ironic part is that the pigs were set to be slaughtered the next day, so now the pig farm can write it off.

Factory farms are the most hideous places on earth. The poor pigs are raised in absolutely horrid conditions and then have to go to these disgusting places to get a bolt in the brain where many times it doesn't knock them out so they're still conscious. They then are mechanically dismembered alive: first the hooves are cut off and then they are bled alive and squeeling as their entrails are scooped out onto the kill floor. Can you imagine working in a place like this. No amount of money is worth it. And it's done because most Americans are clueless, braindead, mongoloids, teetering on morbid obesity and craving that salty bacon on their hamburgers...humans are the root of all that is evil on the planet.
