World update: Mumbai gunman sentenced to death

Mumbai sentencing - The only surviving gunman in the 2008 Mumbai attacks has been sentenced to death. A judge ruled Mohammed Ajmal Kasab, a Pakistani, will be hanged. Kasab was convicted on Monday of murder, conspiracy, and waging war on India. He was sentenced to death on five separate counts, and life imprisonment. Read the full story

Greek cuts - The Greek parliament is expected to vote on a package of austerity measures that include wage freezes and higher taxes. The measures are highly unpopular in Greece and have led to street protests that have turned to violent clashes with police. Read the full story

Nigeria president - Goodluck Jonathan has been sworn in as the president of Nigeria, Africa's most populous nation, after the death of President Umaru Yar'Adua.

UK election - Voting is under way in the UK general election.  Voters will determine the fate of Gordon Brown's Labour government, which has been in power for the past 13 years.
