Latino rights group, others call for Arizona boycott

A Latino rights group and other immigrant and labor organizations have called for a national boycott of Arizona over the state's new immigration law, which allows police to ask anyone being investigated for a crime for proof of legal U.S. residency.

The call was led by the National Council of La Raza, which bills itself as the largest Hispanic civil rights and advocacy organization in the United States. Other groups joining the call include the Asian American Justice Center, the Center for Community Change, the League of United Latin American Citizens, the National Puerto Rican Coalition, the Service Employees International Union, the Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights, and the United Food and Commercial Workers union.

The groups pledged not to hold major conventions, conferences or other special events involving significant travel to Arizona from out of state and "asked others to consider whether their purchases of goods and services might perpetuate the unjust and discriminatory law in Arizona," La Raza said on its website.

"When a law so contrary to our values is passed, we must act decisively," said La Raza President and CEO Janet Murguia. "We are calling for a boycott because this law will blow open the door to increased racial profiling, wrongful arrests and other discrimination."

Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer, who signed the immigration measure April 23, says it does not involve racial profiling or any other illegal acts. The law, known as SB 1070, is scheduled to go into effect this summer.

The measure as originally signed into law said police could ask anyone at any time for proof of legal residency. The legislature passed new wording last week stipulating that police could ask for residency status only if that person was being investigated for another crime. Brewer signed the new language into law.

They can remove these criminals in body bags if they so choose. Stay out of our country – we're not here to give you a free ride through life. The only thing they know how to do is breed like rats in an attempt to take over. The US government is out of their minds to give them benefits. Go back and fix your own country – stop ruining ours.

Some of you people need to take a look at your disgusting selves. You would have all made good Nazis. Illegals are people too.

La Raza, which by the way is calling for immigration reform before EVERY NAZIPUBLICAN STATE ENACTS THE SAME LAW AS ARIZONA is the Latino NAACP. But then again, you white nationalists think NAACP is racist too.

If you're illegal go away...if you're legal...then stay. It does not make us Nazi's or racists.

It can no longer be denied that Mexico and Open Border/Ethnocentric Advocates together with Pandering Politicians have aided and abetted the largest illegal invasion in history! There are more Illegal Aliens in the USA than the total population of all our troops overseas. This invading demographic openly declares in marches and everyday life their first loyalty is NOT to the USA but to countries like Mexico and with signs that say "Go Back To Europe","We Will Not Assimilate", and "You Stole Our Land"! The Silent Majority of Legal Citizens MUST speak out and vote out Quisling Pandering Politicians or see the Country "Fundamentally Changed"..Not in good ways!

    Illegals are people too."

Illegals – Illegal immigration is immigration across national borders in a way that violates the immigration laws of the destination country. Illegal immigrants are also known as illegal aliens to differentiate them from legal aliens. ...

"Where in the HELL has our COMMON SENSE GONE????? America has become so d-- "politically correct' that we can't se the forest for the trees. FACT: Mexicans (not saying politically correct "Hispanics" anymore...they are what they are like we're AMERICANS, including the "people of color!").

IF you LOOK like a Mexican, you ought to be prepared to show your green card or be investigated, PERIOD! This is crazy tip-toeing around in order to not hurt someone's feelings! Hey, it's the LAW.............ENFORCE IT! Not complicated!

It's time to deal with FACTS, not fancy bowing to wishy-washy namby-pamby offended criminals. If you're a legal citizen, then PROVE it, no matter when it's requested OR go back to Mexico or where ever.

C'mon America, ACT like the strong watchful Eagle. TAKE A STAND for AMERICA and that for which we STAND: ONE nation, UNDER GOD, INDIVISBLE, with Liberty and JUSTICE for all!

Many of the people posting in this colum really need to do some research and use
more commen sense, as an american citizen I am all for securing our borders and fixing the immigration problem, however the guns and weapons are being purchased in the bordering states by American citizens and are sent to mexico to the drug cartels, how
are the illigals buying them when they have no ID?? we as americans need to educate
better our children, our country is the #1 drug consumer in the world, if we stop or at
least decrease the demand, the cartels will stop sending to satisfy our demand.
I live in colorado where like other states medical marijuana has become legal, well guess
what, it's so easy to get a prescription, and you think the dispensaries are all growing
what they sell, of course not they have to get it from somewhere. It's a booming business
and very sad to see one of this marijuana stores in almost every corner.
the way I see it the cartels send us the drugs and we send them the weapons, lets face it
the cartels are not using simple guns, they are using AK47, R15, machine guns that I doubt
the stores are selling to someone with no ID, lets secure or borders and do something about our drug abuse problem.

Keep your penny LatinPride. We don't need it anyway. Give it to the overrun state of California, they seem to be having bigger problems with funding their social programs, which are flooded with non taxpaying illegals.

Mexico surely wouldnt want us boycotting spending american dollars in Mexico or America
cutting that supply line of dollars wired back to Mexico from illegals or legals? This
could get to be an unpopular situation that may go farther if allowed. The RICO act
was mandated to persue organized crime and criminals-These organizers have loosely
banded together for the last 30 yrs to better themselves by sucking the life and charm
out of the American people, This life is better or they would not come and stay -obvious-
now they stand out on protest lines and scream give us more we want more like spoiled
kids–spoiled to think that by sneaking around and breaking the law this is acceptable
and eventually after ransacking our good nature of all the public aid we can muster they
keep telling us what we owe these illegals--American citizens have rights American rights
protect them--well almost....... who the heck SOON is not SOON enough is going to protect us from these over the boarder CarpetBaggers.
