I never understand why New York is always the target, for some reason, people think that New York = America... Are they aware that there are 49 other states....

I feel that these threats are probably warnings, and/or practice runs as opposed to
    actual intented attacks.

Since it was a cooler, left in front of the Marriott, maybe it was a guest that checked out and had a cooler with drinks or food and forgot it when they got into the cab. It could be a very innocent thing, however, you have to be cautious about this, regardless....only makes sense.

The arrogance and ignorance is astounding here in this country. We (as a general populace here in America, though there are the few that make the attempts to do otherwise) expect other countries to speak Enlish when we go to visit them. We think bombs are for 3rd-world countries and that is simply doesn't happen here. And everyone has an opinion on the cuff of their sleeve to flick at everyone - starkly uneducated or otherwise.
We have Americans that think the Gettysburg address is a physical address of a place or a building (It was a speech, by the way) or stupid enough to think that you need a passport to go to New Mexico (New Mexico is ours, Mexico is not part of the United States).
We think that only a narrow, tiny group of people hate us as a country (wrong). We think we are above reproach (wrong). And we think we are the wealthiest of nations on Earth (wrong). We also think that we keep the world at a distance and that this land is ours (by the way, quietly China has been buying up American land for years... not a paranoid view, this is fact and we owe quite a bit of money to China who has bought our debt over the years).
So, when there's a possiblility of harm to you or your fellow man and the authories are actually acting on it to keep you and others from harm, stop being a shallow, self-centered overly-opinionated someone-or-other and try to grasp that even the mundane has potential for disaster.

Come on.........please people grow a brain! What better way to keep you all under control than to cook up a bunch of false jihadists, fake a bunch of bomb threats, and send the script to CNN to be read to the world at large so everyone can have a piece of the fear? This is standard operating procedure for NWO thugs. This way when the call martial law on you folks, you'll all be marching like lemmings to the camps. WAKE UP!

I think these bomb threats are a big distraction, and many more to come so terrorists can keep watch on us-one day have emergency crews in the wrong location to wreack havoc when we least expected.

....thanks for sharing that, and sorry for your loss.

Better safe than sorry people. If I notice someone sit a cooler down....and then hop into their car or a cab....then I would wonder too. Especially during times like these.

All of you people crying 'Paranoia!' would likely be the first ones to claim that somebody screwed up if these packages really were explosives and the authorities never bothered to investigate. In the wake of a recent bomb threat in the same area, can't we all agree that its smarter and safer to investigate potential threats than to assume there is nothing in them?

I can't believe people are so insensitive to this sort of thing. I do not live in NY, but I can only imagine how people feel when their lives could potentially be at risk. I wish people would quit acting like this is a joke and understand that the police are looking out for the safety of people and our nation.

Sounds to me like the cops wanted to have an exclusive party in the middle of time square, but once that beer fetchin' robot came back with a water bottle, they knew they had been foiled again.
