Officials: Gunmen kill 1, kidnap 4 at Mexico wedding

Gunmen stormed into a church in the middle of a wedding ceremony in Ciudad Juarez, Mexico, on Friday, kidnapping the groom and three others, and killing one before fleeing, state prosecutors told CNN Saturday.

"It's unclear if this was gang or drug related," Chihuahua State Attorney
General's Office spokesman Carlos Gonzalez said, adding the incident is still
under investigation.

The shooting victim, described as a male in his early 20s, was shot in the back in the church parking lot, Gonzalez said.

Local reports say he was fleeing from the scene when he was shot. The groom, his uncle, brother and best man were kidnapped.

Ciudad Juarez is the most violent city in Mexico, with more than 2,600 drug-related deaths in 2009.

At least 870 people have been killed in Juarez this year, according to local reports.

A report released in April by the Mexican government said Chihuahua state is the country's hardest-hit state by drug violence, with 6,757 people killed since the start of the drug war at the end of 2006.

I love these non thinkers that say, "legalize drugs and they will go away" ???? How stupid !!!! Did booze go away when they legalized alcohol ??? No, it is the most destructive item in America with thousands of families ripped apart and thousands of people killed each year and is by far, our largest social problem. Yea, let's just legalize drugs and perhaps drugs can top alcohol at being the biggest problem we have and then booze will only be number two as one of our most destructive products. Stop and think a little before you write some dumb thing down like legalize drugs and solve the problem???? I am one of the happiest people on earth and have never taken a drug stronger than cold pills. I just get high on family, God and life in general. Try it, you will like it also.!!!!!!!!!!! And, those items are not taxed, YET ?????

I fully support any human being on this planet that wants to immigrate to this country in order to have a better life, but wether you are mexican, canadian, somalian or swedish there should be zero tollerence for entering this country illegaly. I'm a forth generation norweigen and I WOULD advocate for the prosocution and/or deportation of a norweigen national entering this country illegaly. There isn't an ounce of racism in my opinion on this matter.

So... we dont want immigration enforcement (in AZ or elsewhere)... and this happens in mexico... meaning this will be happening in the US soon enough.

Viva la Mexico... bring your cocaine, your heroin, your cartels... we wont ask for proof of your being here legally!

Wrong, drugs kill more people than the laws that make them illegal.

if we deal with the true problem (pourous border) we can not only help Mexico we can help ourselves.Close the borders you cut off the illegal drugs, human trafficking, and illegal aliens. In turn for this help If the Mexican people are so concerned about a better way of life they should immigrate legally or better yet take a stand and fight for your own country. Show some courage and take a stand against the corrupt politicians, the drug dealers and fight for your country. I am one that believes you can't help those that will not help themselves. If you want our ( Americans) Help then act like it. Stop whining about us stealing your country when your forefathers sold you out, Take a stand, show us you want to help yourself. Then come and ask for help. Do not come here acting like we owe you something when you have broken the law and want a free ride.. Learn english act like you want to be a part of our country. Help yourself first

We should do away with all laws. They just cause an inconvenience for those of us that just want to live our lives they way we choose. ... shoot, I just spilled my kool aid.

Wake up Americans! We are some of the most generous people in the world. Let's not be fools. Close the borders. You are naive if you think the only illegals crossing our southern border are Mexican. I am sure that the terrorists have figured out how easy it is to get across our southern border

I have to laugh at these imbeciles posting about grammar and spelling errors in a post about a senseless killing. While I completely disagree with "grider"'s position– I have had three non-"pot docs", including a neurosurgeon, recommend medical marijuana for the pain caused by a failed back, two level fusion surgery, and severe neuropathy that the narcotics I was prescribed (and which I quit cold turkey because they were literally killing me) weren't helping at all, the marijuana has cut my pain at least in half. And my marijuana is grown in California, not Mexico.

Do not equate marijuana with "street drugs", they are not at all the same. That is why so many states are either already allowing medical marijuana, and many more are going in that direction–because it works for many medical problems. The AMA finally decided that marijuana merits more testing–because they know it works!

Marijuana did not cause this senseless violence–greed and insanity did.

There is a huge entertainment value going on here, well there in mexico. 1. seal off the borders completely. 2. install grandstands on the American side. 3. invite vendors for the hotdog/beer concessions. 4. install firing positions for exhuberant fans to take pot shots at those mexicans who stray too close to the 'death line'. 5. make sure there is a clear field of view, especially near towns, so the slaugter can be at least watched with binoculars. It oculd be a whole new industry, COME WATCH THE ALIENS KILL EACH OTHER BEFORE THEY CAN BECOME CRIMINALS IN THE US. LET THE GAMES BEGIN. LET'S MAKE THE WHOLE CATASTROPHE BECOME A SPECTATOR SPORT FOR US AMERICANS. BILLIONS COULD BE MADE.

    @Grider

I agree, that's why they need to decriminalize it. That is exactly what happened during prohibition; gangs controlled alcohol distribution and there was violence...when prohibition ended, the gangs disappeared as the free market took over the business.
