A suspicious vehicle with two gas canisters caused a brief scare in New York City late Thursday, police said.
An employee at Con Edison, an utility company located at 4 Irving Place, called 911 after noticing a four-door Oldsmobile Cutlass Ciera with the canisters in the back seat, authorities said.
At around 11:55 p.m. ET, a police robot was used to X-ray the vehicle and to blow out the windows, so members of the bomb squad could look inside.
Authorities were able to track down the vehicle's owner through the license tag. The owner told police he had the gas cans in the car because he mows lawns for relatives.
The Con Edison building and two nearby apartment buildings were evacuated as a precaution.

glad you are home
I live on 15th street, am watching this from my window..... cant tell if it is a serious threat. My apt has not been evacuated and the con-ed workers are still hanging out in their parking lot. There are several police and fire trucks and street closures........
