A suspicious vehicle with two gas canisters caused a brief scare in New York City late Thursday, police said.
An employee at Con Edison, an utility company located at 4 Irving Place, called 911 after noticing a four-door Oldsmobile Cutlass Ciera with the canisters in the back seat, authorities said.
At around 11:55 p.m. ET, a police robot was used to X-ray the vehicle and to blow out the windows, so members of the bomb squad could look inside.
Authorities were able to track down the vehicle's owner through the license tag. The owner told police he had the gas cans in the car because he mows lawns for relatives.
The Con Edison building and two nearby apartment buildings were evacuated as a precaution.

The chicken has come home to roost. If it came home to roast, would there be fries and salad with it?

Heard they are evacuating many buildings in the area
sounds like we NEED a more intelligent president & congress to try to keep our country safe.
WABC's site is reporting: "After examining the vehicle, including blowing out the windows in a controlled explosion, they determined it was nothing." Whew! Thank goodness!
We were wathcing it from across Union Square from the roof of our office building. It wasn't too much of a bother
