Earthquake hits Southern California

map

A 5.1-magnitude earthquake struck Southern California on Tuesday evening, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries.

The quake was centered 18 miles west-southwest of El Centro, California,
just north of Mexicali in Mexico's Baja California, the USGS said. It struck at
a depth of 6.3 miles.

"This earthquake is within the aftershock zone of a magnitude 7.2 (earthquake) that occurred on April 4" near Mexicali, said Susan Potter of the USGS. "This is an area that was exposed to many large earthquakes in the past."

At least two people were killed and 100 injured in the April 4 quake.

I felt the quake for about 2-3 seconds while I was on the phone. It didn't startle me enough to draw my attention away from the conversation. I should probably reconsider the bottle collection atop the counters in the my kitchen.

"are you some kind of tool?"
That's funny. You should listen to the song "Aenima" by the band Tool.

Ænima is the name of the (best IMHO) Tool album,
Ænema is the name of the song inspired in part, by comedian Bill Hicks

Eric: You are saying you find it amusing to see people suffer and find the world in a big catastrophe. That's like saying you wished many people in this world died. But I say then. I guess it would be interesting to see your house falling apart from a big earthquake. "LoL"

Felt it here in San Diego. I'm in the 4th floor of a building and it shook! I was sitting in a rolling chair and it pushed me just a little bit. It was very brief, though.

Joe, I'd rather live in California. Mexicans need to go back where they came from if they are here illegally. Plain and simple.

    • Joe

Takara, I hate to school you on history, but California was settled by the Spanish – the same people who settled Mexico. If you are really against illegal immigration then why don't you move back to where your ancestors came from, since after all, this is Indian land and we are all illegals for not showing them our proper Indian citizenship papers.

Lisa you wouldn't be able to get into a decent college even if you did have the money for it. Have you even applied to any? It isn't hard to get accepted, so if you're having that much trouble then maybe it's because you're too stupid for their standards, not your skin color?

The big one will be in Missori joe, like the monster from 1802. Cali just has a bunch of small ones with the occasional San Fran one from last century. Now when intra plate quake hits again, it's felt from east to west coast.

No, he's not anything, because if he knew anything about physics, he'd know that foreshocks only occur within a week of the primary earthquake..not a year in advance...
