Faisal Shahzad is accused of attempting to bomb Times Square in New York.
The man accused of attempting to blow up a car bomb in Times Square also considered New York's Rockefeller Center, Grand Central Terminal, the World Financial Center and Connecticut helicopter manufacturer Sikorsky as other potential targets, a senior counterterrorism official with oversight of the investigation said Tuesday.
Faisal Shahzad had gone so far as to do surveillance of some of the additional targets, the official told CNN.
Shahzad, a Pakistani-born naturalized U.S. citizen, is accused of attempting to set off a car bomb in Times Square on May 1. E-mails obtained by CNN indicate he was looking for a way to strike back against "foreign infidel forces" he believed were oppressing the Muslim world.
Cowards! If they want to attack the forces, fine. But when they sneak and hide to kill civilians, then they are lowly cowards!
You have issues Sarah. Anyone being attacked is unacceptable and cowardly.
Are you equally offended by our use of Predator drones that kill the occasional innocent bystander from the safety and security of a military base in Nevada??
@Chug
Let me start by saying I am offended when *any* civilians are killed (on any "side"). Your argument falls short when you are trying to equate the use of predator drones vs. a man who parked a bomb in times square? I dont think the pilots of the drones are trying to bomb civilians. This is in stark contrast to what Faisal trying to do - deliberately kill civilians.
men have been sneaking around killing each other foe eons ...You can call him names but that is real cowardly too at least go and tell him what you think ....a lot of people come on these websites and use a lot of deragotory remarks against muslims and then when they react and kill you want to call them cowards...
They are religious fanatics. They have always been around and will be with us as long as we posses 'religious genes', i.e. practically forever. Religion can and does wonderful things but, in the name of religion, thousands or milliions have been killed since the beginning of 'civilization'. Europe was quite efficient in that – one of the reasons people moved here. Does religion COMMAND killing? Certainly not (for the most part – we have to neglect some harsh rules of Leviticus, of course). People have their own interpretation and when they overdo it, people die.
Whether they are 'cowards' or 'martyrs' is completely irrelevant. To kill an infidel (heretic, Protestant, Catholic) by all means available was and still a God's command for some, fortunately fairly small minority of humans nowadays.
Who cares what the drone operators INTENT was. If you were to kill my child but your intent was to kill my neighbor I wouldn't give a &$#%!
That's just what the British said about us during the revolutionary war. They thought our tactics were under handed and that we were not playing the game of ware fare. Because we started to fight like that it was one of several reasons that helped us to win that war.
so true
It's fine to attack the Forces?????!!!!!!!!!
I agree with you totally we should round up all these lowlifes throw them in a hole and throw away the key. Also the pictures of this piece of garbage should be one with the numbers across his chest.
Even in their own country they hide behind their women and children.
Or sneak around planting bombs. It's very rare you hear stories of them actually, openly attacking our army.
These cowardly "muslim" terrorists are nothing but wannabe soldiers. They fight unarmed civilians and kill their own people to send a message to the "west". Why does no clerics denounce these attacks? Why is it when the taliban or al-qaida kill their own people the west is the bad guy???? Double standard??
Our predator drones are not aimed at civilians who are innocent. There may be unintended damage to civilians as we persue the bad guys, but that is very different from attacking civilians in Times Square where there is no legitimate military target. Further, remember, we did not start this war. This was one more (thankfully failed) attack on the US by radical Islam. this is the reason our drones have a job to do.
The guy who launches a cruise missile from a thousand miles away is little different from the Times Square bomber. Both are hired to kill, often without regard for whom they kill.
@Chug (again)
As I previously said, I am offended when civilians die on either "side". Don't you believe intent has something to do with this? Faisal certainly had the intent to kill civilians. The drone pilots do not. That is the difference. You should stop trying to equate things that have no relationship.
No religion suggests to kill innocents, its the individual who interprets (and hitler-ize) the meanings wrongly, they need to be punished
An eye for an eye ring a bell?
Nope, no bell wrung ... Arab fantacy is that way ->
wow....so if they want to attack the forces thats fine?? Might want to rethink how you say things huh??
Well that is how we usually do this things is all he's saying. Not that spies and sabotors are anything new, though they are almost always shot on spot in the past.
As opposed to enemy soldiers who dress in clear "I am not a civilian, i am a soldier" attire who when caught are put into a camp and feed once or twice a day.
The muslim extremist slime balls are the biggest cowards of all people and of all religions, they are as Sarah said above cowards and they are filthy and ignorant A holes, these bums need to be tortured and their families need to be aressted and investigated until proven they new nothing of any bad happenings. LONG LIVE AMERICA!
your tongue probably inflamed another Muslim to go ballistic...when they do sucede you and many like you will be partly the blame...your hatred breeds more hatred...
No doing nothing is what will make them succeed.
I'm an inflamed American Jew. I want to strap a 40 Megaton bomb to my b-52 and drop it on MECA
Thsi faisal guy sure has a big nose, he looks like he hsa'nt showered, ugly pakistani.
Wow a real man is a real ugly indian.
He looks like maybe several 100 million other people on the planet. Casting a large net are you?
Yup, 100 million other Arabs
They are not cowards. They perceive themselves to be in an assymetric battle. Rather, it is us who should be adjusting to this evolving threat. Instead of spending tens of billions on 11 aircraft carriers when that is 10 more than the any possible aggressor nation we should be building up our human intelligence capability and neutralizing these threats before they can realize their plans. A plus up of $10 billion a year to the CIA would go along way towards that goal.
Marc – you are right 10B to the CIA would go a long way – BUT we just have to hope they (CIA) doesnt go and build aircraft carriers with it....
Here, here
We tend to call these people cowards, because they do not attack our military. Really? To die for what you believe is true is not a cowardly act. We are only looking at this from our stand point. If you flip that coin, maybe, just maybe we can understand what these individuals are coming from.
So killing unarmed civilians isn't cowardly, as long as you really, really believe in what you are doing and die doing it?
I guess it's ok for people to shoot abortion doctors then because, hey, they really believe in what they're doing. Or, I guess the Holocaust wasn't really a big deal, after all, the Nazis really believed in what they were doing. Sure they gassed a couple million civilians, but at least they believed in their cause.
Give me a break.
Tony you are confuse as the rest of them, all we wanted was to help the Muslim people but yet they come here to America to cause problems and destroy this country. But my friend the day will come when burning of the america flag by Muslims which were entiltled to become American citzens will end!!!! If you hate this country so much that you must burned the American flag and try to destroy this wonderful country, they should go back to where they came from.
If you believe in something truly but it is wrong then are you right to die for it?
Yes, understand where they are coming from...then go annihilate them before they wreck anymore havock on us. Better they be offed than you or me. Right? Or do you not mind being murdered in your quest to understand "where they are coming from". Idiot.
Don't lose hope completely, Tony. Your point was well-received here. I'm not sure why there is such a aversion to the simple act of trying to understand the enemy. All most people know is "They want to kill us!" without ever asking "why?" Most were happy with the child-like explanation of "They hate us for our freedom!" And anyone who would dare to think there had to be a better explanation...? Well, you know what they'll call you for that.
So let's stay ignorant, stay in an ever-lasting war where every effective strike creates as many insurgents as it kills, and let's keep blaming our national debt on health care reform or other social programs. But let's not touch our military budget, because "we have to fight them there to keep them from coming here." The enemy will tell you that one of the goals of the 9/11 attacks was to bankrupt us – I know this because that's what they've said. Two wars and nearly 10 years later, we've made no progress... Have they? If their goal is the financial ruin of the West, I'd say they're close.
But let's not ask questions or think about the effect we have abroad. Let's not think about the innocent lives we've taken in all of this. Let's only think of the loss of life of our own, and do nothing but seek revenge on those seeking revenge, until there's no one left to fight. Let's argue about whether or not they're cowards instead of asking real questions. Let's attack each other instead of attacking this problem with a little common sense. Let's continue this knee-jerk reaction that we call the War on Terror, until we assure an enemy victory.
Or... let's ask some serious questions. That way, we might be able to get to the root of the problem and come up with policy that actually works. For instance, if they attack us because we are "infidels on holy land," we should wonder why we are there at all. For oil? Okay, we need oil, but we're paying a really high price for it in American life. So let's push for clean energy technology, and eliminate our need to be there. We're happy, we're saving lives, we're saving money, and the militant factions of Muslims in the Middle East will go back to fighting each other, just as they did when Saudi Arabia was just "Arabia."
See how that works, folks? Questions can be good things! But right now we're acting like the oil addicts we are, blaming everyone else for our problems instead of taking responsibility for our actions, and thinking of the lives we put on the line every time we need a fix. I, for one, am all for asking a lot of questions. It's the only way to end this. Is anyone thinking on those terms anymore? Do we even want this to end? It doesn't seem like it.
Jigar
Hitler-ize? Really? Make up words that make no sense, go ahead. What does Adolf Hitler have to do with how an individual interprets religious text?
And if you reply he interpreted it was ok to kill the jews from the bible, im really gonna lose it. Wow, just wow people are really really dumb.
maybe these terrorist attempts would slow down a bit if we weren't... say... killing civilian muslims in Iraq and Afghanistan?
Hey Jesse, we were not killing anybody in Iraq or Afghanastan when the terrorists started attacking us. War is messy and innocent people get hurt. They can stop it by turning everybody that is bad, they know who they are.
what does the iraq war have to do with terrorism? We didn't go there to stop terrorism. Stop perpetuating that lie that even Bush and Cheney have said isn't true.
You're F'n kidding me right? We go out of our way NOT to do this and all the low-life terrorist do is hide in mosques and schools. What a waste of breathable oxygen these people are!
or calling them hateful names here In America...just a couple ugly names and they go full blown terrorist..LOL
Too late.
They all just need to be eliminated. End of story
never too late to kill more .. and more
Wow, he must have been really despondent about losing that house.
LOL
Upon further investigation maybe the psycho-leftists will find out he actually lost more than one house, thus the multiple targets.
Hey Sarah, your logic is broken. Look at war in Iraq and Afghanistan...Do you know how many civilian deaths there have been? So far its easily over 500,000 civilians killed since the start of the war.... End of Story
Dove – Where do you get your figures? The American military is in no way responsible for 500,000 civilian casualties. Not even close. The majority of civilian casualties are caused by terrorists and inter-faith violence (Shiite vs Sunni.) Why is it that the Muslim world has nothing to say about those innocent people being killed? Because it is easier to point the finger at the West.
Dove,
Your logic is broken. Maybe you should consider doing a little research (from credible sources) before you post random figures.
Hey Bobby, we invaded the country and caused anarchy. In international law, we are now responsible for securing it. Its just like the police arresting someone and putting him in cuffs, its now their responsibility to protect the suspect. They can't leave him on the street for someone to kill and say, well, we didn't kill him. Maybe not, but it was your responsibility to provide security as soon as you decided to invade and annul any semblance of the pre-existing government that existed. We need to stop pretending we're never responsible for anything. as Col. Powell said, you break it, you buy it. And he's a damn proud, intelligent military man.
There are bombings and attacks in Iraq, Afghanistan and Pakistan nearly every day. Look at today's CNN headline. The civilian deaths are a result of Arabs/Persians blowing up other Arabs/Persians. I wish we could figure out a way to help them get better at it. The sooner they kill each other all off, the better.
"Maybe not, but it was your responsibility to provide security as soon as you decided to invade and annul any semblance of the pre-existing government that existed"
There was no pre-existing government in Afganistan. That is, unless you consider the Taliban a legitimate government. If so, I guess Somalia has a ligitimate government as well.
Hey andyk (Arab) –
"Hey Bobby, *we* invaded ....
*we* are now responsible ...
Maybe not, but it was ... *your* responsibility ...
as soon as *you* decided to invade ...
*We* need to stop pretending ...
Are we WE or YOU ??????
Your not even in America, nor an American, your
an Arab somewhere else who troll's blogs about
America who doesen't know Americans.
We hate bombing the crap out of countries who
bomb us, but buddy ... you should read up on
American history, ** WE ** do that pretty fk'ng good !!
Muslims have been killing each other for centuries. Long before US even existed. Even their prophet was a just a war mongering liar. 99% of the causualties in Iraq & Afghanistan are by AlQaeda & Taliban Islamic terrorists. Eliminate Islam and the world will see peace
Sara, you are an obtuse malcontent. Stop going on the daily kos, it's frying your brain.
maybe these terrorist attempts would STOP if we... say... killed every one who looks arab?
But a lot of arabs are fair skinned, so i guess we would have to kill the arabs and the whites. If thats you're plan, who am i to stand in the way?
I can spot an Arab a mile away. Like you!
Ah yes and while we were trying to do that do you think that maybe some of the still to be killed ones would be just a touch mad at us.
doesen't bother Americans buddy
Islam is evil! The world aint seen nothing yet!
I agree with you jen, but the only way to eliminate the religion is to evangelize them all...the only way! I propose that we send one hundred thousand Christian's at a time to live in Muslim nations..They should all live together and then spread out in their region...Until all the Muslim nations are covered... since we are supposed to be 80% Christian, I'd say we have unlimited resources...
Jonathan: there are more Muslims in the world than Christians. Maybe they could convert us to their way of life and all be happy. No? Why not? Oh I see forcing someone to change their whole belief system is too harsh. Hmmmm. Maybe rethink your plan then. Ever heard of the Crusades? Think maybe a large number of people from the west suddenly appearing in your countries might cause a stir?
@red – "Jonathan: there are more Muslims in the world than Christians..
Think maybe a large number of people from the west suddenly appearing in your countries might cause a stir?"
All the Iranians on visas (mostly students) were expelled in the 70's.
How do you intend to get the massing of "Muslim Terrorist's" into this country before the stirr happens?
people are stupid!!!
That is an interesting theory. First to test this we will need a control group of non-stupid people. Oh never mind.
that leaves you out panama
Tony: they are monsters, and are objectively wrong, even by Muslim standards.
Jesse: they've been attacking/at war with us for decades, not because of current conflicts. In otherwords, they are culturally insensitive – only they can be right.
