Official: Times Square bomb suspect eyed other targets

Faisal Shahzad is accused of attempting to bomb Times Square in New York.

The man accused of attempting to blow up a car bomb in Times Square also considered New York's Rockefeller Center, Grand Central Terminal, the World Financial Center and Connecticut helicopter manufacturer Sikorsky as other potential targets, a senior counterterrorism official with oversight of the investigation said Tuesday.

Faisal Shahzad had gone so far as to do surveillance of some of the additional targets, the official told CNN.

Shahzad, a Pakistani-born naturalized U.S. citizen, is accused of attempting to set off a car bomb in Times Square on May 1. E-mails obtained by CNN indicate he was looking for a way to strike back against "foreign infidel forces" he believed were oppressing the Muslim world.

@ good money, I wasn't talking about the actions of the man, yes, killing innocents IS cowardly, I'm talking about blind hatred for Muslims. Read the comments on here and aside from the recent situation, look how many of the comments on here simply just attack Muslims, I think that too is cowardly, and it is, Hate the terrorist and their actions if you must, but not a whole faith.

Well I am against all religion because of all the hatred it has caused humankind during it's existence. Pagans sacrificed innocent people to appease the rain or sun god. Martyrs now kill themselves to satisfy (not sure how this works though) their god. Nothing new in religion controlling weak minded sheep and then those sheep being sent out to do all kinds of mischief.

My problem with muslims is that they tolerate extremism. White christians attacked the KKK and the Nazis in battle and in the media. I don't see the same reaction from Muslims. They don't stand up for themselves, but rather allow the enemy to hide amongst them.

I love the strike back against the "foreign infidel forces" part. These people are truely insane!! Here we were minding our own business until some dope (and his idiot followers) kills 3000+ people just living their lives. Somehow this is now America's fault? No one kills more Muslims than Muslims!! I can't believe the comments people make on the web defending people who want to accomplish things like keeping women from going to school and the killing inocent people. I'm sure someone will reply saying, "..the US kills innocent people, blah, blah, drones, blah blah...", but at least we're going for the bad guys, we're not just launching them into random crowded areas. Then again, we don't have to, because the idiots will do that to themselves!!

While I agree with you it is hard to convince the poor schlub that just came home from work and found his house destroyed and his wife and kids dead that it was not the fault of whoever destroyed his house. I too would be rather upset in this case. Now if this guy is looking for revenge who do you thin he wants to kill? The guy who destroyed his house. Sometimes these people can be convinced that they can actually achieve that revenge. It just takes the right (wrong) person guiding their hatred.

Religion is a good and beautiful thing.
These terrorists are just murderers using religion as an excuse to kill. They're going to be in for a big surprise at the Judgement! Or maybe not...
And would you please use a different picture? I'm getting tired of that same ole one 🙂

Kuran nor the Bible speaks about violence. Our government has gone to wars which many innocent lives were killed, but OUR people here in the states, cant do much about that beside voice their opinion. However, these terrorist take it upon themselves to kill innocent lives. Yes the crusaders did the same, but the world is suppose to lead thru civilization, not backwards 600 years ago. American people live their life in this land, immigrants that come here, come for a better life and should reamain that way. they reap all benefits of being a citizen and this is how they pay back?? Since when killing turists on the street and people on their high rise offices is considered a real war? If thats not cowardness i dont know what is. And this guy didnt even attempt to kill himself "FOR THE CAUSE".What happened?? wasnt he suppose to do that? or I guess eating Mcdonnalds in time square seemed a hell of a better idea.

To us they are cowards ..
To them an army that sends in drones to bomb an area that kills 1 terrorist and 4 civilans is coward. One innocent civilian life is as if not more important then 1 army soldier. If it takes 3 US soldiers' lives to save 3 civilians then so be it. Grow some courage and go in yourself to weed out just the terrorists.
Until we understand this .. the world cannot be a better place.

I think its about time that we start preparing internment camps for these so-called "muslim americans"! Don't even START with that stupid argument that "they're not all like that"....How many does it take? What if its YOUR loved one that gets blown to smithereens by one of these animals!!!!

We, th US, broke the treaty of Tripoli of 1796 (Signed by John Adams).

    Read article 11:
Art. 11. As the Government of the United States of America is not, in any sense, founded on the Christian religion; as it has in itself no character of enmity against the laws, religion, or tranquillity, of Mussulmen (read: Muslims); and, as the said States never entered into any war, or act of hostility against any Mahometan (Read: Muslim) nation, it is declared by the parties, that no pretext arising from religious opinions, shall ever produce an interruption of the harmony existing between the two countries.

In fact did you know the FIRST nation to accept America as an independent nation was a MUSLIM country? The Muslims have been instrumental in the independence of this great nation, lets not forget history.

Let's also not forgot that they helped round up African slaves to sell to British and Dutch merchants that then sold them to American land owners. Oh darn, now more people to ask reparations of.

This is Pakistan history. They were scrwed by Arabs in the 7th century forced to convert to Islam. In 10th century Ghori an afghan scrwed them & islamised Punjab. In 12th century Ghaznavi scrwed them & converted the remaining retards. Pakis today praise their invaders who scrwed them and mock their ancestors. India scrwed them in 4 wars & left them alone, thats a BIG mistake. Lesson to learn from history, if US scrws them hard now, in future they will praise USA also and worship it. If Pakis can accept an Arab pedaphile as prophet, it is upto us to decide what we want these morons to be brainwashed into.

It seems that its only muslims that are causing us all this grief. You don't see roving bands of anglicans or terrorist lutherins wanting to blow up stuff. How come when a muslim feels he is discredited with being violent he resorts to violence to try and prove they are not violent. I know its impossible but all muslims should be banned from air travel as its always muslims that seem to be creating the panic. The muslim world should then police themselves. There are very peaceful muslims but alot of them want to destroy us, so it should be up to the muslim world to reach out to their own and stop it at the source. If they don't like the way we live then put them back on the plane they got off of and send them back. I don't like they way the live in pakistan but I'm sure as hell not going to go there and blow up myself and 50
    others because of their government.

Has this thought crossed anyone's mind that the terrorists deliberately
live with innocent people. so if there are civilian casualties while they are being attacked , they can encourage the dead or wounded persons family to become fanatics as well.
