State dinner crashers stopped near White House

Tareq and Michaele Salahi, who crashed the last White House state dinner, were pulled over near the White House Wednesday.

White House party crashers Tareq and Michaele Salahi didn’t show up at President Obama’s Wednesday night state dinner for Mexican President Felipe Calderon, but that doesn’t mean they were off the Secret Service’s radar – or far from the event.

The couple was in the back of a limousine that was stopped by a uniformed Secret Service officer just two blocks from the White House where Obama was entertaining the Mexican leader and 200 guests Wednesday evening, the Secret Service said.

According to a Secret Service statement, the officer saw a limousine go through a red light at the intersection of 15th and Constitution Avenue about 8 p.m. It then tried to enter a restricted parking area on the Ellipse, south of the White House. The officer then stopped the limo at 17th and H streets, northwest of the White House.

The driver was ticketed and the vehicle and the Salahis were sent on their way, the Secret Service said.

The Salahis caused a stir on November 24 when they showed up uninvited for a state dinner held for visiting Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. At that event, the couple even had a photograph taken with President Obama.

The Salahis contended they were told they could attend the program to honor India's prime minister, but the White House says they were not invited and were not on the guest list for the exclusive affair.

Earlier this year, the couple’s media representative said they would be featured on “Real Housewives of D.C.,” a reality show expected to premiere on cable outlet Bravo this summer.

In a congressional hearing on the party crashing in January, the couple refused to discuss their motivation for attending the White House dinner.

When asked by House Homeland Security Committee Chairman Rep. Bennie Thompson, D-Mississippi, whether the state dinner appearance was part of a "reality TV stunt," Tareq Salahi said the couple was under a non-disclosure agreement and "should not discuss matters related to the television matter."

I'm not a fan of these people in the least, but they are certainly not terrorists! Let's not fling that word about lightly, no matter what the race of the person or people in question! A "terrorist" is someone who acts to promote, cause, or inspire terror, typically for political means. A couple who crashes a dinner party at the White House for no other reason than to smile and wave at the cameras aren't terrorists, just idiots.

I get that people are saying, "If they were Muslim, then they'd be locked up." That's not a question of terrorism, then, but a question of racism.

The overall point is that tying terrorism to muslims IS racist, and it's exactly what would happen in this country had they looked like 7-11 employees.

The fact that this is listed as news by CNN, Yahoo, AP, etc. makes me sick. This is not news. THe less coverage these two get the better.

To the comment the average Joe should be invited to the white house. The Obamas have invited the average Joes to the white house, they just don't make the news. The white house host very important people and what those people did was irresponsible and illegal. They should serve some sort of sentence for it, what a great example for our kids.

ughhhhh can we just shoot them and move on w/ more important pressing matters of the world???? these 2 have nothing to contribute to the greater good of society.

Most of the invited guests do not contribute to society, either. The Salahis did financially support a former state DNC head, though.

What a couple of pathetically desperate narcissistic losers! I'd bet they would get on all fours and eagerly lick the bottom of the first family's shoes smeared with the dog's poo just to stay in the spotlight!

With a name like Tariq, that sure sets off he's white. **sarcasm**

Also, this story has no credence at all. They were probably heading somewhere else, were driving near the White House and coincidentally pulled over in the same proximity. It's nothing more than coincidence and a slow news day for CNN.

I would think that many of the readers here would support the fact that this couple was allowed into the White House WITHOUT THIER PAPERS.

Mr. Speed – at least I added to the discussion and didn't run my failed attempt at a new reality show idea by the peers on this page as if a producer were amongst us

Obama's on his way back to Chicago in about 20 more months. He'll be gone just as fast as one of his predecessors. Obama is the Jimmy Carter of the 21st Century. Rev. Wright and I will welcome him back with open arms.

This really needs to be taken care of, as these fame-hungry idiots may end up causing real security problems. Its simple. They are banned from the white house grounds. If either is found there or attempt to enter, they will be arrested and charged with trespassing. But, of course, because they are rich... nothing is done about them. Imagine if a poor person tried this kind of crap over and over.

I find it concerning that the Salahis, who are such insignificant human beings, are creating such a stir. They are opportunists and liars. Why do we all waste our valuable time even thinking about them?
