'Reason to believe' Pakistani Taliban plotting to strike U.S.

U.S. intelligence has strong reason to believe that the Pakistani Taliban is actively plotting to hit interests in the U.S. and American targets overseas, a U.S. official told CNN Thursday.

The concerns about the group that authorities say directed the Times Square bombing plot are coming from multiple streams of information, including from Faisal Shahzad, the Times Square bombing suspect, the official said.

The official told CNN that CIA Director Leon Panetta and National Security Adviser Jim Jones relayed the new terror threat information to Pakistan's government on their trip there earlier this week.

The threat information was not down to the level of specific cities, the official said.

I feel sad to see news lke this, & then discussions that people in Pakistan can attack US. Guys, Pakistan is a country of 170 million people as compared to 300 million in USA. We are a peace-loving nation. Believe me, the ordinary people around me (in my office, in my neighbourhood, streets, markets etc) hate extremism & hate Taliban. Talking about Taliban, i am astonished about the term ' Pakistani Taliban' ... There was no such thing a few years back .. And even now, if some people in the tribal / border areas (with Afghanistan) termed as so called 'Pakistani Taliban' have extremist views about non-muslims, that can not be considered a general opinion of muslims about non-muslims. Also, lets not forget that the ones who have these extremist views about non-muslims did not just develop these feelings one fine morning. This is as a result of their sufferings. If the entire famiily of a person living in a border village is wiped out one day in a drone attack, would you expect him to love the government / US. ... ofcourse not. The issue is that our own government does not do any thing for the masses and instead prefers to stay as an ally of US in this so called war on terror ..... Please dont get me mistaken ... i am in no-way supporting anyone here, but just trying to highlight that two wrongs do not make a right .... Honestly speaking, after the sad 9/11 incident, the US government should have punished the ones responsible for it (i believe most were Saudis), instead of invading Afghanistan & Iraq. Now US is after Iran & Syria .... I wonder if Pakistan, the so called ally, will also be invaded by US one day.... This by the way is not something easy ... We have one of the largest armies in the world, one of the most trained SSG forces and got a stong sense of patriotism ....... Yes we do have issues ,,, we have problems of economy, the health & education sector requires improvements, the security issues hamper the development projects and the politicians are only after seeking the top slots in the govenment .... Still, the people are much better than the neighbouring countries .... In fact the people are rich but the government is poor (opposite of whats the status in India where people are poor & government is rich)...
In the end, i would ask the people to kindly chnage their perception about Pakistan .... I know that its the media that controls our impression about anything. Still, when i invite people to visit Pakistan ( i am working for a multi-national company) they get a bit shaky , but when they actually visit, they are quite pleasantly surprised and have a happy stay here .... And i am not talking about one or two incidents ... Many colleagues from Europe have visited lately and they were stunned to see this place ... Guys, i have been to many countries in Asia & Europe .... Believe me, my country is one of the best .... If i can recall correctly, all those (from my company) from UK, Russia, Germany, Finland, Dubai etc who visited Pakistan were happy while they were here .... [the russian colleagues were so happy that one of them said he will bring his family here for vacations after his visit to Bhurban & Nathiagali, near Islamabad] ........
Guys, since i travel a lot & know the sentiments there & here, please do remember that if media projects an incident in Pakistan, this does not mean that the whole nation is like that ... We all know that the crime rate in US is one of the highest in the world ... .So does that make every US citizen a criminal ???
Lets hope that we can bring some positive chnages in our thinking and have mutual respect for each other ..

    Not a terrorist 🙂

Really?? Which perception would you want us to work on? Are you saying that it is the media creating this hype about Pakistan? Is it not true that the majority of the terrorists captured in past 15 years have been trained in your country? You did not act against these suckers and that is why we have to use the drones today. STOP PLAYING THE VICTIM, because you sound like a broken record.

Holmes u look like a hi school drop out or even a 5th grade drop out. Talk about perception ! Your great Pres Reagan told these innocent tribesmen how great they are. The US tipped USSR with their help and felt happy, not realizing it was creating a monster .... now Pakistan is a bigger target of Pak Taliban then USA will ever be.... go back to school !

Thank you for your comment. It is good to here from those who are directly in contact with the issues and have a better understanding than most of the armchair critics who post comments out of anger and hate. It seems that humanity has developed an evolved instinct to expect and look for the worst in others thanks to the press. The press believes in one thing and one thing only and that’s to do what ever is possible to make money even if it means to turn us against each other. Why you might ask, that answer is easy. By turning us against each other it means more press stories and more press stories means more money for the press. The world has become place where the only thing that matters is money and power. And my friend that is what the issues of this world is all about. Out of all the people in this world 2 percent control 90 percent of the money. The rest of us are pipits bought by their money. Do away with money and we do away with 98 percent of the world problems. I know, that’s easier said than done but it can be. I grew up and a small farm in mid-west USA. My family didn’t have a lot of money and as most of you know small farmers only live for harvest to harvest. But one thing we did have was a togetherness and common goal with the community. Since money was almost non-existent what the community would do is exchange goods for goods or goods for labor. In other words if I need help with some thing I would ask the another to help me in exchange for his/her help I would do something in return or pay him/her with some goods that I had. The products and goods of our labor was the money we used. This kind of commerce created a pride in every individual and in the community as a whole. To bad we allowed modern technology to bring about our own destruction. And it will happen once the atom jenny had been released it became just a matter of time when it’s evil will destroy all we know today.
Thank you again for your comment. It has given me an insight to a side of the story I have never heard before. Maybe one day in a world other than this one we will be able to set under a shade tree and ponder the wonders of life.

      Pak Citizen,
Appreciate what you have commented and I understand what you go through when you listen to all this. But the fact remains the same, as others say, that why most of the terrorists who are captured have links to Pakistan in some or the other manner. There cant be a coincidence every time. Recently, the 26/11 happened in Mumbai, India was a result of Pak conspiracy and full support was provided by Pak army to those terrorists who were killing innocent indians and jews people. I dont think they have any right to do that. But I have an opinion that India lacked the surveillance dat very unfortunate day and it paid for it. Ajmal Kasab accepted in the court that he was trained in pak and got all support. His father residing in Pak village recognised him when he saw his son on TV. Still Pak govt has guts to refuse that Kasab is Pak citizen. some of my friends have visited Lahore and Peshawar and they liked the cities and a warm hospitality. Trust me that is the only hope the Indians have that one day Pak will become a sensible and responsible country. But if you think that just by hoping things would have changed on their own, am sorry I dont think so. You need to come forward and take bold steps. It would take ages..that too when the govt of pak has leaders who think like u. But if u have leaders who are passionate about keeping extremists happy and at the same time keep taking international aid to crush them, then its not going to happen. The worst thing happen when you combine state and religion together. Its a deadly combination. So you need to keep both apart. If you follow religion, u will loose the state and if you care enough about a state, forget the religion. Thats exactly what is happening in India. On your remarks about that Indian ppl are poor and govt is rich is way beyond the fact. Every member in the Govt is a millionaire and India has more than 25 ppl in forbes list of billionaires...that is more than China who has just 8 or 9. Industries are rocking, IT is booming and there is growth everywhere. The reason is that India doesnt spend most of its income in buying arms, but using it for the people. Thats the area Pak needs to concentrate rather than being puppets of radical islamic clerics and pushing the country to a war zone. Tc.

That's what I was looking for. Nobody brought India into picture 🙂 till this comment. A Pakistani speaking about American and that too without pointing finger to India is not digestive. Peace and prosperity go hand in hand. If you do not have prosperity then how can you claim you are peaceful? If you are not extremist then why all terrorists in the world have their relative somewhere in Pakistan? My dear neighbor you have lot of difficult questions to answer before American drones stop flying above your head.

pakistan has harbored terrorists from the beginning, the country was founded by the 20 percent rich muslims who wanted free land and resources and they have been a dictatorship for most of its "free" years as a islamic republic. Catch Osama in Pakistan and this whole war thing will finally be over.

So what else is new? Of course the Taliban are planning to attack the US. They just tried and failed so they'll try again.

Apart from that they are a significant part of the radical Muslim terror that plagues the world today.

Radical Muslims have a clear objective of installing Muslim theocratic dominance everywhere since they can tolerate only Islamic rule.
The major obstacle to the radical Muslims, standing in defense of Western values is, of course, the US. Europe is far more benign an obstacle so the radical Muslims can be content there with mostly pushing Muslim emigration from the ME to Europe and their raising large Muslim families there to sway democracies and take advantage of socialist support for those families (they do that in the US too to a lesser extent).
Of course Europe is also far from immune to fundamentalist Muslim violence as seen in the mass murdering in London and Madrid, or the fundamentalist Muslim coercive violence in Sweden and Denmark.
Bottom line: yes we do need to be aware of such ongoing threats, so such an article is not all bad...

War is not so much fun when the enemy strikes back. Amerika is a nation of cowardly bullies that will only attack the weak and that cowers before the strong! It's obvious the dose of its own medicine that Amerika received on 911 was not enough! The farther Amerika moves to the right the more pathetic it becomes. There can be no peace on earth as long as the current neonazi Amerika exists!

  13. Solution to it all

    Ok- here it is:
    1. Give every Pakistani a hunting permit for 10 Taliban. Voucher $300 /per body. Dead only.
    Permit renewable up to 200
Provide a nice gun and ammunition
    2. Pay the "good guys" to do their own house cleaning.

    3. Build them schools in each town. Pay for the school with private funds.
