'Reason to believe' Pakistani Taliban plotting to strike U.S.

U.S. intelligence has strong reason to believe that the Pakistani Taliban is actively plotting to hit interests in the U.S. and American targets overseas, a U.S. official told CNN Thursday.

The concerns about the group that authorities say directed the Times Square bombing plot are coming from multiple streams of information, including from Faisal Shahzad, the Times Square bombing suspect, the official said.

The official told CNN that CIA Director Leon Panetta and National Security Adviser Jim Jones relayed the new terror threat information to Pakistan's government on their trip there earlier this week.

The threat information was not down to the level of specific cities, the official said.

I think the guys that really killed John Kennedy are behind the terrorist threats. I also believe they were in a conspiracy with the Mossad in Israel to kill Kennedy because Kennedy was a Catholic.

The Mossad are the terrorists? The republicans are behind the terror threats to deceive the people? Somebody else is just using the threats to divert your attention away from other issues? We are doomed if very many people in this country really believe what is posted here. Oh, the first paragraph is sarcasm. Really.

anyone ever consider that CNN is world news and Pakistani taliban watches it constantly? We know about a plot and we can say one of our sources... not everything is about you, the individual reader, but may target a different audience. This article may thwart whatever possible attack was being planned and isn't that worth "non-news" and the like. Sometimes people should accept things as they come and consider why they were told that other than your immediate thought...

Sorry – you can't compare bananas with apples. Should we ban all deep sea oil exploration after recent BP incident in Gulf of Mexico. No, No No.
If you look at immigration department report you will find that Pakistanis are mostly entering legally into this great country.

Pak has been a spoiled child of US...since the time of Soviet-Afghan war. Aways been successful of making a fool out of US and getting funds and arms and showing dreams of cracking down on extremists. Now it iis a grown up boy. US has no option but to taste the mischief and greediness of this boy. May the God give sense to US foreign policy makers and ascertain the right policy for Pak.

Nashad, you say what your govt say. of course, pak is preferred dats y all of its west borders r being bombed every alternate day thru drones. your ass is burning yet you don wanna accept the fact. But i understand your irony cos in exchange you guys r compensated to get ammunition. Do you know which country has a history of being bombed continuously for 8-9 years by an ally?? just think about it. Pak has a foreign policy which says anything for money. I feel pity on your senses...who is the loser????

First it was Iraq, then Iran, then Afghanistan and now Pakistan. Why cant the US govt decide who the real bad guys are? Right now it seems all roads lead to Pakistan.
Why is Pakistan our close partner in fighting terrorism and catching Osama while at the same time the Govt and news seem to suggest that Pakistan is also the most troubled area. Our good friend also our enemy. Something wrong somewhere.
