Sensei Kaylan Soto, middle, and his students came to the rescue of a German exchange student.
A group of would-be muggers in a Sydney, Australia, met their match Tuesday night in the form of black-clad ninjas.
The three stalked and attacked a German exchange student, 27, in a dimly lit alley that fortunately for the victim ran behind the Ninja Senshi Ryu warrior school, according to an Australian Broadcasting Corp. report.
Ninja student Nathan Smith was standing in the shadows outside the dojo when the attackers set upon the victim and quickly called for help from his classmates inside, according to a report in the Sydney Morning Herald.
Sensei Kaylan Soto and three other students in full ninja gear quickly responded.
"We looked around to see what was happening and there were three blokes on this guy just kicking him and punching him in the head," he told the ABC.
"We started running towards them and they took off. They would have seen five of us in ninja gear ... all in black with our belts on, running toward them.”
The ninjas gave chase but could not catch the assailants.
Police told the ABC they arrested two male suspects, ages 16 and 20, and are looking for a third. Their intended victim suffered only minor injuries.
Ninja Steve Ashley told the Herald the assailants must be lamenting their luck.
"It was probably the worst place in Sydney where they could have taken him,” he said.
Good going, guys. Too bad you didn't catch them and teach them a real lesson.
Lucky for the muggers they were only student ninjas, the master would have dispatched all three without being seen. Let this serve as a lesson to the students to be more aware of their visibility.
What no one knows is that the master was NOT seen and preformed "Dim Mak" on all the muggers....they will be dead within 3 days for some unknown cause.....then the master will probably absorb their souls to make himself even more badassness
Uhm if you know martial arts; ninjas originate from peasants. They are the cowards that dress up in disguises and assualt their victims by surprise. If you were a real martial artist you would be in good shape and be able to catch their would be victims. Not impressed with this story at all.
@Jeff....ninjas generally did originate from peasants, it's true. However, the term 'coward' doesn't necessarily apply. The "cowards that dress up in disguises and assualt [sic] their victims by surprise" sounds similar to our special forces....would you have the stones to call THEM cowards, if you weren't hiding behind a computer screen?
Jeff your an idiot. Ninjas originated from the Chinese. Ninjutsu was pretty much derived from the Asian Buddhist priests and so they developed the art of potions, medicine, and body conditioning as well espionage. They were not peasants like you say they were. They were way opposite from the way the samurai, the ninja roots were in poor farming towns. They disguised themselves as peasants, merchants, and so on. The word ninja, shinobi no mono means stealth or one who endures. The way you see Batman do his thing in comic books and in movies, pretty much that was the ninja did. You want to talk about being in condition you should try to do some of the training a ninja once did. A ninja used the element of surprise so he could engage one or several targets without having to draw attention to themselves. Being poor was only a stepping stone for the ninja's training for hardship was part of their training as well. This was called shinren training of the heart. Strength and being well conditioned is having control over body and mind and I think you lack the strength to control your bias and understanding of the world in regards of those people who are poor. Physical strength means nothing to a person who has a well conditioned heart and mind.
If they were good ninjas they wouldnt have been seen at all. And if they were hollywood ninjas those muggers should have gotten throwing stars in the temples.
Jeff, I saw that episode of Deadliest Warrior too. Repeating as fact what you saw on a television program without checking the legitimacy of the claims is pretty childish. However, you went a step beyond the normal level of stupid by choosing a show that is 90% entertainment for testosterone junkies and 10% wikipedia facts. Congrats.
IHeartNinjas, I don't hide behind a computer. Black belt in MMA, Peace Corps Volunteer 2005 to 2007 in Armenia, travelled to Georgia, Azerbaijan, Philippines, EPA inspector 2007-2008 (almost was thrown into a crematorium oven on an a citizen complaint). I have helped my fellow man and confront my challenges. I have been broken down in many instances that you could not even imagine. How have you helped your fellow man, what experiences have you had. Be careful what you assume. because it makes you an A%S
If only Ninja Steve had caught them! A lesson would have been taught I'll tell you!
NINJA POWER!!
Jeff you sit on your ass and eat Cheetos all day. How can a story about ninjas not impress you?
@Jeff,
How much did you pay for your belt? $600? something like that?
Grow UP guys! fighting over silly things! You are all being overly rude and violent, any ninja would be ashamed of your behavior... You are ALL hiding behind your computer screens! No one would be that rude about something so inconsequential in person!
@Jeff, I'm not assuming anything....I asked you a question, that's all. You made the assumption that ninjas are cowardly, and tried to throw 'credentials' around (what have I done for others? How about decorated active military, law enforcement, and life saving? But that's not the point.), so don't get on my case for something I didn't do, when you're guilty of throwing around assumptions. You're getting defensive for...what? If you can't take your ideas being questioned (which is the point of commenting/criticism), you shouldn't be posting. Also, last time I checked, MMA doesn't use belt rankings.....
So basically this is just a story about how some karate students were unable to outrun some hoodlums that beat the crap out of one of them....Enticing.
You're all idiots, all you guys are doing is talking crap and hiding behind computer screens. The sad thing is that I'm probably younger than all of you and I'm telling you to grow up.
You are all wrong!
@ Jeff – LOL, black belt in MMA?
Jeff, Ninjas are not cowards nor are they out of shape. They just kill using less direct methods unless necessary. It's part of what makes them so kool. Stealth, speed, accuracy, precision... "Noble" fights usually have far too many casualties and last way too long. Ninja Clans, like SpecOps, get in, get the kill, and make it back in time for happy hour.
You guys are right. I lied about all my stuff. Don't hate me!
It is a shame that the would be Ninjas couldn't catch the assailants at the time.
The story here is why could ninjas not catch these guys. As a martial arts instructor myself, that would not due. I think ninjiitsu must be over-rated.
Indeed, NinkasNOW wonders why they did not use their throwing stars? This would have been the correct response.
Ninjas hate running...it is loud.
Proof that this world needs more ninjas.
We should ship these ninjas out to sea and have them take on the Somalian pirates. Pirates vs. ninjas!
Why that would make an awesome Deadlist Warrior episode! Ninja's vs Pirates!
And then we should add some zombies and robots to the fray!
YES! This is the ultimate goal of NinjasNOW...
hahahahhahaha XD
Ninja Steve is my Hero! Hooray Ninja Steve!
Not being able to catch some lousy muggers... maybe they tripped over the victim?
I gotta admit that when I read the headlines I imagined there would have been some actual physical contact. I guess the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles spoiled me.
hahahahhaa!
"They would have seen five of us in ninja gear" ...and if you had been *real* ninjitsu, you would not have been seen. Good on them for helping out a fellow human, but the media calling these guys 'ninja' is no more accurate than calling a 16yr old a F-1 race driver when driving recklessly on the highway. Please. "Martial arts students – certainly. Ninjitsu? Highly doubtful at best.
Copy that. It's like when the media calls some d-rocket a "sniper" for firing randomly at people, and referr to the semi-auto he bought at Wal-Mart as a "Sniper Rifle". Even if you have military training for marksmenship, and actually pass the test to become a "sniper", firing on your countrymen breaks the oath you took when you enlisted, and therefore revokes your status as a "sniper". Don't elevate these clowns to the same level as those who protect us, call them something that makes thier wasted life apparent.
Oh, and before the trolling begins, excellent work gents. "the Clowns" was not directed at you.
Prost!
Someone needs to become familiar with the dictionary. Per Websters, a sniper is simply " One who shoots at other people from a concealed place." How the military uses that term, or assigns it as a designation of skill is immaterial to how the word is used in public and by the press.
A fool with a BB gun shooting from a building is still a sniper.
Oh shush, you nerd.
Webster anso integrated "Ain't" into the dictionary, need I say more.
If they didn't use the term "Ninja" none of us woudl be reading this article right now.
"Martial Arts Students Chase Mugger Away' just doesn't have the same appeal.
Still, thank you to these guys who helped out a fellow human.
Ninjas can be seen if they want to be seen. If they wanted to scare off some attackers to save a would-be victim, for example. Of course, a few of the attackers should then have dropped with a few shuriken in the backs of their heads, but whatever.
Saying less is probably best – word selection is not your strong suit. đź‰
AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Why don't things like this happen near my Krav Maga school? I get so tired of just beating up on michelin men
cool story bro
real like kiss ass
Nice job on the rescue.
I am left to wonder if/what the results would have been had the attack taken place behind a Somalian Pirate school...
The pirates would have chased off the attackers while firing MG's and RPG's randomly into the sky, and then mug the kid themselves.
hahahhaah! I LOVE this article just for the hilarious comments!
lol. this whole thread is hilarious.
Awesome, and indicative of the selflessness that most good martial arts schools engender in their students. Reminds me of the mugger who tried to rob someone while pumping gas (I think this was in LA) – except the someone was sensei of a karate school, and his van was full of his students ... ended badly for the mugger. Feh on those who say these guys weren't ninjitsu; while technically correct, they served that purpose in this event. Calls up one of the better messages in _Bruce_Almighty_: "You want to see a miracle, son? _Be_ the miracle."
THERE WAS ALSO A STORY OF A WOULD BE CAR-JACKING AT A GAS STATION BUT IT WAS A COLLEGE VAN THAT JUST HAPPENED TO BE CARRYING THE MEN'S JUDO TEAM.
Oh man! After I read this article I was so excited I almost kicked my mom in the face!
lmao....I know, after you read this it makes you want to kung fu chop a mofo.
lol hahaha...nice
I actually did it, gracie-style, Her last words were, "The Game."
Hmm...NinjasNOW did this once too. With poor results.
NinjasNOW mom is an excellent ninja!
NinjasNOW.... Talking about yourself in the third person is incredibly ridiculous and creepy.
Cool Story Bro
What a terrible group of ninjas! They couldn't catch the muggers. These guys calling themselves ninjas, is like D&D bags pretending to be knights in your local park. FAIL!
As they were in class immediately prior, they were also chasing barefoot thru dark alleys. I would halt the persuit myself, as the probability of broken glass and such is very high.
full ninja gear includes specialized boots/shoes. no running barefoot. but invisibility is taking advantage of natural cover and takes time and planning. running to the rescue is not the best time for "invisibility" the distance was to great and the student broke silence to gather help. there was also most likely concern for the victim. after all the muggers did not see the student "standing in the shadows" out side of class
Ninja wardrobe, contrary to popular belief, is not black garb with masks and such (with perhaps the exception of assasinations). Ninjas were masters of infiltration and confusion, and were often hidden in plain sight dressed as commoners or using stolen armor to appear as soldiers. In a dojo, they would most likely be barefoot save a pair of sparring footgear.
Though the fact that they can become invisible is an undisputed fact, and pirates have nothing on that.
The knights in my local park are better trained and better armed than medieval knights were. If only we could say the same of students of ninjitsu, that they could live up to the legends of the past. But they came to the rescue and chased off the attackers, and that's the important part.
Mmm it seems that you do not understand the nature of ninjas.
I think one of the basic steps of any martial arts is missing here...... "Why couldn't the Ninjas catch and beat the crap out of the muggers"? Well, although I personally would agree the muggers would've have deserved to have the crap kicked out of them for ganging up on a lone student, martial art students are taught to use the most minimum amount of force neccessary to diffuse a situation. If by just looking up and seeing the presence of 3 or 4 Ninjas around you would make you stop what you're doing and run, then the Ninjas were already victorious! They did their job and did it well!!
About commenting on the students not catching the muggers thing......if you guys had ever trained in (any) martial arts you would know that it is done in bare feet....if they called on help from the guys inside, they would probably have rushed out without time to put on their shoes......no wonder they didn't catch them... Probably they guy who was already standing outside didn't want to take on all 3 without his buddies backup.
If they were Pirates, the muggers would have been caught
