Would-be muggers in Australia thwarted by ninjas

Sensei Kaylan Soto, middle, and his students came to the rescue of a German exchange student.

A group of would-be muggers in a Sydney, Australia, met their match Tuesday night in the form of black-clad ninjas.

The three stalked and attacked a German exchange student, 27, in a dimly lit alley that fortunately for the victim ran behind the Ninja Senshi Ryu warrior school, according to an Australian Broadcasting Corp. report.

Ninja student Nathan Smith was standing in the shadows outside the dojo when the attackers set upon the victim and quickly called for help from his classmates inside, according to a report in the Sydney Morning Herald.

Sensei Kaylan Soto and three other students in full ninja gear quickly responded.

"We looked around to see what was happening and there were three blokes on this guy just kicking him and punching him in the head," he told the ABC.

"We started running towards them and they took off. They would have seen five of us in ninja gear ... all in black with our belts on, running toward them.”

The ninjas gave chase but could not catch the assailants.

Police told the ABC they arrested two male suspects, ages 16 and 20, and are looking for a third. Their intended victim suffered only minor injuries.

Ninja Steve Ashley told the Herald the assailants must be lamenting their luck.

"It was probably the worst place in Sydney where they could have taken him,” he said.

Best story of the day so far. I have visions of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles in a dark alley with steam coming through the manhole covers. Good for these ninjas, atleast they didn't run away.

"Ninji?" I was unaware "ninja" was a Latin word. Did they originate in ancient Rome or something?

Ninja were assassins. Period. Anyone in training to be a "ninja' is a wannabe who's seen too many movies,, or a killer. Neither is respectable.

That said, cheers for the students who chased the mugger off. That is worthy of praise.

"That's a lie, if they did rescue you, they'd have put a shuriken in your chest and gouged out your eyes the moment you saw that they were there!"

True. They should do some more cardio. As a marathon runner myself, I GUARANTEE that I could have caught up to at least one of the muggers. MORE CARDIO my ninja friends.

It is nice that the attacked guy had that kind of luck, however if the mugger was gun toting would you guy been able to stop the bullets flying, as a USA "ninjutsu" (aka) shadow teacher.... did you have the tools on you as well, besides courage to try and meet them hand to hand, because dressing like a ninja isn't the same as doing the trade..... correct?

(my i had to face the ex student of a school and his 3 friends awaiting in a truck to back him up)
and my student had the sword and i was barehanded, thinking about throwing dust before stealing her weapon, as she trained, to nail them all to the tree nearby....) but peacefully.......

    Good job

I wonder why the Ninja's didn't grab their ninja stars and flick a few into the legs of the attackers, see how well they can bob and weeve so to speak. Funny story!

Well, I think that ninja's have a lot of secrets...so the ones that the muggers SAW coming were just diversions for the ones that were really standing behind the muggers with swords drawn ready to strike, but were hesitant to attack due to Geneva Convention....er...Ninja Convention Rules of engagement hindering them...

Since there are no true ninjas left on the planet, I doubt they would have done real damage to the muggers. The ninja is the unseen assassin. If they were REAL ninjas, the muggers would have been taken out and never noticed a thing. These guys are probably just students of ninjitsu. Big difference.

I don't care what you call them, or they call themselves. They came to the rescue, that is what matters.
