Would-be muggers in Australia thwarted by ninjas

Sensei Kaylan Soto, middle, and his students came to the rescue of a German exchange student.

A group of would-be muggers in a Sydney, Australia, met their match Tuesday night in the form of black-clad ninjas.

The three stalked and attacked a German exchange student, 27, in a dimly lit alley that fortunately for the victim ran behind the Ninja Senshi Ryu warrior school, according to an Australian Broadcasting Corp. report.

Ninja student Nathan Smith was standing in the shadows outside the dojo when the attackers set upon the victim and quickly called for help from his classmates inside, according to a report in the Sydney Morning Herald.

Sensei Kaylan Soto and three other students in full ninja gear quickly responded.

"We looked around to see what was happening and there were three blokes on this guy just kicking him and punching him in the head," he told the ABC.

"We started running towards them and they took off. They would have seen five of us in ninja gear ... all in black with our belts on, running toward them.”

The ninjas gave chase but could not catch the assailants.

Police told the ABC they arrested two male suspects, ages 16 and 20, and are looking for a third. Their intended victim suffered only minor injuries.

Ninja Steve Ashley told the Herald the assailants must be lamenting their luck.

"It was probably the worst place in Sydney where they could have taken him,” he said.

Did all of you forget that Ninjutsu is not a "Protect the Community" style of martial arts. They had no reason to catch the guys. The fact that they even tried goes beyond the ninja code. They were protecting their Dojo and their territory. They obviously put the fear of black death into these punks. Sounds like a success to me.

That the Ninja's did not attack and hurt or kill the muggers shows proper Martial Arts restraint. They learned their lessons well, that everyone would be better off if there weren't stars thrown into the skulls of the muggers. The muggers were caught, and will be tried in a court of law. A vengeful and overwhelming demonstration of physical force, while sometimes justified, must never be used without deliberative balance and careful judgement. The victim was saved and may have needed assistance, and the muggers scattered. Job well done. Justice was reserved for the sworn officers who's job it is to serve justice, not for students of martial arts.

This is the best story I have ever read. CNN you should be leading with this story, not putting it down the bottom of the page. Ninjas save mugging victim. Awesomeness.

Seems mildly curious to me that Ninjas weren't able to catch the assailants. Perhaps they weren't wearing shoes, but even as students, I would expect a little more. That being said a car drives faster than a person can run and once again at the lovely CNN no context is given on the escape. That rhymed.

If those were true ninjas, then the attackers would not have gotten away.

The grammatically correct plural form of NINJA is NINJA, not NINJAS. It's like fish, two fish. Not two fishes. Ninja rock pirate's world 😉

Since it was a school of ninja... maybe they should have swam after the attackers.

"Ninja student Nathan Smith was standing in the shadows outside the dojo when the attackers set upon the victim..."

What was the "ninja" doing outside? Shouldn't he be inside "training" his so excellent cardio workouts. Im sure the ninja's spidy senses were tingling.

The ninja is a psyich warrior capable of telling the future and a master of the blade. Or the bloke was having a smoke.
