Israel: 2 Palestinians killed after crossing border

Two Palestinians were shot dead Friday after they crossed into Israel from Gaza, the Israeli Defense Forces reported.

Palestinians infiltrated into Israel near Kibbutz Nirim, prompting an exchange of gunfire, the IDF said. No Israeli soldiers were injured in the skirmish.

Islamic Jihad sources said the two Palestinians belonged to that militant group.

Earlier, the Israeli Air Force struck three tunnels in Gaza that it said were dug close to the security fence and were intended for executing terror attacks. The IDF said the attacks were in response to rockets that hit Israeli territory in the past two days.

The Palestinian territory of Gaza has been subjected to an Israeli and Egyptian blockade since 2007, when the Islamist group Hamas staged a violent coup ousting the Palestinian Authority government led by Fatah, a rival political faction that remains in control of the West Bank.

Hamas is truly the cause of the Palestinian suffering in the Gaza strip, they provoke the Israeli response. though I feel the soldiers could've just wounded them and interrogated them and tried to rehabilitate them or sent them to the Palestinian authority and let them handle and rehabilitate them

Anyone who thinks that you can just wound someone who is shooting at you and then capture them has
      A. Never been in a firefight
      B. Watched too many movies, or
      C. Both of the above

Are you kidding?? Can you Really be that naive?? Think of it this way: There's no police & your neighbor keeps sending his armed & trained sons at night to invade your home. Some of your family members have already been murdered in these attacks. Now you see two more entering your home through a window under cover of darkness. How STUPID would you be if you just "wounded them" to "try to rehabilitate" or expect your neighbor to "rehabilitate" them. Get Real! There are times, like this, where you either kill or be killed, period! If your going to post comments about such serious matters THINK 1st before you spout off!

lwf.. you cannot possibly justify the blockade, wall, water regulation/control, and settlement expansion. there are international laws, and please dont waste my time telling me hamas is a terrorist organization. 1, im aware, 2 they dont have a country and im not surprised their 'angry', – israel does and acts irresponsibly. The pressure for these things to change will increase from the west and the u.n., and hopefully we will stop funneling you aid money we could surely use back here! so by all means, say 'shalom israel'- i dont have a problem with your existence, id just be happier is you existed on your own, were 4000 miles away and cant say i like you as an ally/liability.

I agree with you regarding Hamas, Michael, but every time you pull that trigger it's with the intention of neutralizing the threat. They realized long ago that rules of engagement dictating "shoot to wound" aren't practical, in combat you're just lucky to hit the moving target aiming center of mass. And since the article stated "an exchange of gunfire", lethal force was justified.
And Protip, yes like your elementary school the real world has boundaries, and when militants cross a country's border with weapons and exchange gunfire they just crossed the line in more than one way
One day Hamas needs to be taken down, it just doesn't look like that's going to happen anytime soon.

You're very perceptive morgan, I'm sure the two armed militants in the Islamic Jihad who illegally crossed the boarder and opened fire were innocent...
And this article has nothing to do with babies or mothers, unless you're congratulating Israel for taking out two militants who were part of a network that consistently use "babies, innocents, mothers" and civilians as human shields.

I'm not sure if you're a troll or if you're actually serious about this conspiracy theory...if you really believe I'm part of some secret brigade then it would be almost funny if it wasn't so sad.
You have contributed absolutely nothing relating to the content of this article, except to (incorrectly) associate me with a certain religion. I'm sure there are many christian, jewish, and muslim people that have valid points regarding illegal immigration and terrorism, although it seems apparent you yourself are incapable of logical thought.
The only thing you have done is try to invalidate people with a different opinion than yours, and if I were to take a guess I'd say you're in the same league as those nutjobs who want the creators of Southpark to be assassinated.
In fact, for every post I see from you I'm drawing a cartoon of Muhammad.
    I just finished my first.

Almost every week Nazi Israel is in the news for killing Palestininans that are alleged to be "miltants, terrorists, or infiltrators," and the US Jew controlled News Media reports every allegation made by that nazi state as a fact. Truth is, Palestinians do notl protest innocent Palestinians being murdered by the Israeli Nazi Jews because they have no rights under the law. The gestapo IDF has turned Gaza into a training range with Palestinians as targets. The gestapo IDF murder Innocent Palestinians under the pretext of fighting terror because the US pays Nazi Israel for the terror it creates. It is a shame that we no longer have men of integrity and principle working for the news media that is willing to write the true about Nazi Israel and the complicity of the US in its crimes against the Palestinians.

I wonder when the day comes that we can truly live side by side in peace. Look to the rest of you who read this Im a Palestinian; that doesnt mean I condone killing ionnocent Israelis. How are we t ever have peace if you have Netanyahu saying that he will never leave occupied land. Thats what it is they are holding and that does not belong to them, living on land that does not belong to them. It is wrong to build a fence in someone else's backyard to protect yourself. There need to be clear boundaries between the two sides with clear modifications. Palestinians need to be able to move freely. Just for those of you who dont know if you fly into Israel and you have a Palestinian passport your not allowed to leave from there. Its racist and its wrong. Hamas needs to recognize Israels right to exist to.

moe- it's good to see an intelligent response from someone with a contrary viewpoint to mine.
I'd be interested in getting your perspective on the situation you're bringing up; As you know in 2005 Israel relinquished control of the Gaza strip under the disengagement plan and gave it back to your people. However, Hamas ended up taking control of the region (by a democratic vote) and created an act of war by shooting rockets into Israel. Now I understand there are land disputes at issue here, but if any democratically elected government was responsible for an attack on American soil, we would engage that area in all out war; as would any sovereign country, regardless of any other disputes at hand.
So why do you believe giving up more land to Hamas (which would likely gain power of the region over Fatah) would bring peace, since this exact scenario occurred in the past with tragic results?
In this current environment, I disagree with you that peace would be achieved by giving up land first.
However, if Fatah could cowboy up and free Palestinians from Hamas and its dead end single state solution, then I agree that Israel should hand over land as long as Fatah can ensure they have control over their own country.

For years, Fatah was the enemy of the Israeli gov't, but they can pretend they are their friend as long as they have another excuse to sieze more land. Believing that Israel would make peace if Hamas disappeared would be naive. Here is a you tube link to famous qoutes from past and present Israeli Prime Ministers:

This is sad, if Mexicans cross into America, the Americans take them, take care of them and then send them back. This is sad, its within their own country and they get shot, this is fascist.

Israel has it right. The intent of those shot was not to go buy bread. It was to take innocent human life. They deserve to be shot. There was an exchange of gunfire...hello anybody really read the article? There are biblical and historical references to back up israel and the land they possess. Shalom Israel, Shalom.
