FBI stats: Violent crime down

Violent crime in the United States decreased 5.5 percent in 2009, the third year in a row that such crime has gone down, the FBI reported Monday.

The number of murders dropped 7.2 percent while robberies fell 8.1 percent, the FBI said. The number of forcible rapes went down 3.1 percent while the number of aggravated assaults fell 4.2 percent.

Property crime declined 4.9 percent.

Police agencies around the country reported crimes to the FBI, which compiled the figures released Monday.

The agency did not offer reasons for the drop in crime.

Mark your article proves absolutely nothing and shows nothing but more statistics from past years. terrible example. Really. Terrible. Who cares which banks are robbed what the skin color of the man who did it. This is about stats getting rigged. If anything the most heinous and violent acts of crime have taken place last year comapred to any pasrt year on record. the stats mioght not reflect that but this is also a day where police are more crooked than ever. What about the boy with his baby girl on the Bart Train? Is this not all relevant. We don't want to be protected by the police when most pepople are more afraid of the police than the gangsters on their corners. An as far aqs illegal immigration goes, I have sold way more drugs in the prime of my days than any illegal immigrant I have ever met in my life. And trust me Im the from the west coast, I know ALOT! Illegal immigration is just another excuse to exclude and incarcerate. Our ancestors were all immigrants, legal or illegal, at on point in time so your gotta understand the irony of what the broad kk said is rediculous.

Sounds like some posters NEED to believe that the crime rate is worse to fit the End-Of-Days scenario they've been predicting – statistics be damned! How exactly do you report less MURDER people?!?! Really? is this what it's come too with you yahoos?

Living in NYC, this does not seem to be the case. I think there's a lot more crime that is going unreported, and that's why their stats are down. People are fearful of retaliation. People are just fearful of everything now. We live in a really messed up world right now, and I just hope it gets straightened out soon.

I wonder if they are going to give the President any Credit for this.....? this is what happens when you give Hopeless people , hope. we you promise change and a fair chance to ALL people and not just a privileaged few. I pray this makes it into the news. In a world where we have had a President who has done more in his first Term, than the last 4 did in two terms, I wonder if he is getting credit for all that has happened.

Crime, violent crime is not down and cannot go down. Do you really expect that crime has gone down when Police agencies all over the country are cutting back on police officers. Come on here, you are merely spreading the propoganda the FBI and the Justice Department want you to tell people. They have fixed the figures by spread sheets. Tell the real story...they compile the stats differently to make it appear the crime rate goes down. In fact, since 1962 violent crime has increased 320%. Research it instead of writing what the DOJ tells ya. Tell the truth!!!! Just like accounts they are fudging the numbers.
