Iran to U.N.: We gave our uranium to Turkey

Iran has formally notified the U.N. nuclear watchdog agency of its nuclear swap agreement with Turkey, the agency said Monday.

Representatives from Iran, Brazil and Turkey delivered a letter signed by Ali Akbar Salehi, head of Iran's Atomic Energy Organization, to International Atomic Energy Agency head Yukiya Amano, according to an IAEA statement. Iran's Press TV said the letter was handed over in a closed-door meeting.

The deal, reached after 18 hours of negotiations between the foreign ministers of the three nations, calls for Iran to hand over nearly half of its estimated supply of low-enriched uranium to Turkey.

Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu has called the agreement for an Iranian nuclear swap one of the most important diplomatic decisions in the 30-year history of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

The deal has not swayed the United States and its international partners, who have drafted a fresh set of tough sanctions against Iran over its nuclear program.

Cracks me up how the Jews keep beating down everyone in that region despite all the angry rhetoric. They even beat three countries at once in that six day war. Call them terrorists if it makes you feel better.

I will say that it was crazy to put a Jewish state there at the close the 2nd world war when the entire region is anti-Jewish.

Let's see if real actions follow the paper agreement. My understanding is that Muslims need not honor agreements made with "infidels".

This needs to be carefully verified.

Great! Now what about the OTHER 2200 kilos of enriched uranium that Iran has? This "transfer" does nothing to ease the fears of the nations invovled, and is just a stall for more time. If Iran were serious, they would transfer ALL of their uranium out of the country, and STOP enriching more. As it stands, they are continuing to defy international law and the conventions of the agreements THAT THEY ALREADY COMMITED TO, and they are in breach of IAEA rules as well. Congradulations on your uranium swap deal, Iran, you get a cookie!
