Baghdad jewelry store robberies lead to 15 deaths

Fourteen people were killed in southwestern Baghdad on Tuesday when more than 10 gunmen stormed jewelry stores, and a gunman was killed later in clashes between police and the robbers, police said.

Most of the victims were jewelers, officials said, adding that gunmen managed to flee the area after they had stolen gold and cash from 11 stores.

Officials said the gunmen also planted bombs near the stores in order to create chaos so they could flee the area easily.

Iraqi security forces arrived on scene at the Bayaa neighborhood and sealed off the area.

After the robberies, attackers and police battled in a different location in Bayaa. A gunman was slain and four police were wounded.

Damn, there are actually good ppl in Iraq, and though we have become numb to the violence over there this saddens me. When I was there I met some hardworking folks that really want to get this thing continuing in the right direction. Some ppl just dont. http://diaryofamiseducatedblackman.com/

The terrorist are running out of money, so they've resorted to this to help fund their perverted, murderous ideology. Thugs and criminals all acting in the name of their God...who would send them to hell if given the chance. Kill 'em all, and let Allah sort it out!

To Tiredblackman...thank you for your service! And yes, there are many, many good people in Iraq that want nothing more than to be rid of these terrorist and get back to living their lives and raising their families in peace. Peace, of which they haven't seen in the last 30 years.

As our troops draw down, we need to keep our anti-ied and law enforcement folks there to continue to assist the Iraqi government on these problems. They are the most requested folks there now and have done a lot to curb rampant violence–due to 1k's years of sectarian strife and violence, it's going to take awhile before crime goes down significantly.

These are the same deviates that robbed $600,000 of wages in Iraq. Expect more tumultuous action as US troops
exit the country. Now, it becomes a war of a different kind.
