Feds shut child porn social networking site

Authorities have shut down a global social networking-like site where members traded child porn, talked about their fantasies and traded tips about not getting caught, according to the Department of Justice.

The investigation into the site is ongoing, the agency said, and it is working with police officials from several countries to try to find members who haven't been identified. More than 50 people have been arrested around the world and 35 convicted since the 2008 start of the investigation, dubbed Operation Nest Egg, the Department of Justice said.

The members "participated in a sophisticated, password-protected Internet bulletin board group, which existed to allow members to meet like-minded individuals with a sexualized interest in children, to discuss that interest and to trade images of child pornography," according to court documents.

At one point, the site had more than 1,000 active members.

"The individuals who participated in this Internet-based bulletin board exploited the most innocent and vulnerable in our society," Assistant Attorney General Lanny Breuer said.

The Department of Justice said the operation began by targeting 26 defendants who were charged in the Southern District of Indiana and then expanded to about 500 other individuals around the globe who were a part of the online group that was "dedicated to trading images of child pornography."

Most of the people charged are accused of conspiring to advertise and distribute child pornography, along with substantive counts of advertising and distributing child pornography.

Officials said the inquiry led them to further investigate some people for sexual abuse of children.

"Numerous members of the Internet-based bulletin board were found to have been personally sexually abusing children, sometimes producing images of the sexual abuse," the Department of Justice said in a statement.

The agency said the site's lead administrator, Delwyn Savigar of the United Kingdom, was among them.

After his arrest, Savigar's DNA led police to an unsolved sexual assault against a minor, the agency said. Savigar eventually pleaded guilty to the charge. The department said that after the one instance of assault was discovered, Savigar was linked to several other sexual assaults.

In total, Savigar pleaded guilty to abusing or attempting to abuse three minors. He was sentenced to 14 years in prison.

Did the VATICAN try to cover this up too. I mean, I'm sure that Cardinal O"Malley was the "networking site moderator". Also....what did the POPE know and exactly WHEN did he know it? What do you REPUBLICAN TEABAGGERS think, huh? Inquiring minds want to know.

Dude, seriously? You would blame the Vatican for the gulf oil spill if you could. We get that you're against the entire Roman Catholic Religion. We get that you're hateful and full of bitterness for it. We get that you probably know someone or was abused yourself by a priest. That is the only reason I can gather for the level of hate spewing from your posts.

But dude, don't raze the orchared for a few bad apples. There are millions of priests out their doing good work and asking for nothing in return. Nothing. No money, no welfare, no free housing nothing. All they do is give and volunteer their lives for the greater good.

Yes there is a small percentage of priests that did awful things. But you can't blame ALL for the actions of a few.. or should we blame ALL WHITE MALES for being pedophiles because the vast majority of them are white males?

Dude your hate is ruining your message.

Fix them so they can't have kids and drop them all off on a deserted island in the South Pacific. Both men and women. Whatever happens from there I don't want to know. Make sure it is well marked on all maps and with bouyes so no decent people even get close. If anyone is found in the water around it they are to be shot on sight!

You "RACIST TEABAGGERS" are probably devastated that the Feds took your "networking web-site down". How are you all gonna find your underage slaves now? It's people like you who keep this country in the TOILET with all of your SELF-RIGHTEOUS CHRISTIAN HYPOCRISY since the majority of pedophiles are right-winged priests, ministers, or frquent "church goers". Sick stuff man, sick stuff.

I liked your comment about stuffing pedophiles genitals down their own throats till they choke to death but this comment is beyond the pale stupidity.

Pedophilia is not and has never been related to one political party and contrary to your belief I've got some news for you – the baby raping priests you rant about are liberals.

You know MAC, catholic priests in general are not liberal. When was the last time catholic priests were pro gay marriage, pro abortion, or pro immigration?

it's funny that alot of people on here are saying that people should feel bad for these sickos because they were probably molested as a child. as sad as it is if they were indeed victims themselves, it doesn't make it more exceptable in my opinion. for example if someone came into my house and killed my whole family(god forbid that would happen). is it then okay for me to go out and kill other families(that had nothing to do with the murder of my family)? it seems ridiculous for someone who knows the pain of being molested to go out and do it to someone else. in my opinion it is a OPTIONAL not MANDATORY for past victims to have future victims.

We need to replay the Spanish Inquisition again ( bonus pack V 2.0 ) But, in this edition, we don't slow down game play with priests, sanctification, confessions. The new and improved version uses physician consultants, pain management specialists and as an added bonus, the controlled use of electricity, belt sanders and skin grafts (without anesthesia ).

In my opinion these people must be punished for what they did. As a parent I am afraid I would want child abusers to be locked if not death penalty.

"…since the majority of pedophiles are right-winged priests, ministers, or frequent "church goers". Sick stuff man, sick stuff."

But the world was so much better when we the right-wing church goers were solidly in charge of congress and the executive.

Spill Baby Spill, to hell with the environment.
Kill Baby Kill, to hell with anyone we don't like.
Torture people who don't share our values.

Come on EVERYONE. The comments are at least 5 to 1 to violence. Let’s get together and kill some people. Some of them are bound to be (or likely to become) child haters. It will feel righteous. It can all be done in the name of GOD!

Public executions? NO! Let’s do it right. How about we burry them to their waste and we can all stone them to death (with small rocks of course to extend the torture). Maybe we can teach our children to so hate people that we can watch the children throw the stones.

Make sure and vote in the next election! Your society is at stake.

You know, it's funny. People's reactions to this webstie range from righteous indignation to outright hostility against the pedophiles. Well, what if you gave these pedophiles money? WHat if you let them into your homes and left them alone with your children for hours at a time? Think you don't? You do if you are catholic and left your kids with a priest and gave to the catholic church.
