Soldier's Facebook video taunting Iraqi kids investigated

The U.S. Army is investigating a video a soldier posted on his Facebook page that depicts two Iraqi children being taunted and referred to as gay terrorists.

"The conduct in the video is disgraceful and clearly inconsistent with the high standards expected of every Soldier," a statement from U.S. Army officials in Alaska said.

"The Soldier was directed to remove the video from the website," the statement added.

In the video, the two young boys are shown standing next to each other on a dirt road. The person who appears to be holding the camera asks them if they are homosexual and perform homosexual sex acts. The boys nod but it is unclear if they speak English.

The narrator then asks the boys if they are going to grow up to become terrorists and if they are going to plant roadside bombs. The boys give the thumbs up sign. But then one boy seems to become aware that he is being mocked. He puts down his thumbs up sign and pushes the others boy's arm down as well.

The army said it will "take appropriate action based on the findings of the investigation."

The soldier, posted at Fort Wainwright, Alaska, was not named in the military statement. CNN has not been able to reach the soldier.

CNN-affiliate WRAL said the video, titled "future gay terrorist," was posted by a soldier who said he was from Fairbanks, Alaska. WRAL identified the soldier as Spc. Robert Rodriguez. CNN could not reach Army officials to independently confirm the soldier's identity.

The video has caused a stir in some military circles far away from Alaska.

Army Staff Sgt. Veronica Jones, stationed at Fort Bragg in North Carolina, called the video a case of "stupidity and boredom."

"Somebody took advantage of those kids because they don't speak English. That's sad," Jones told WRAL. "(This is) not a representation of soldiers. Not at all. I know plenty of soldiers who would not do anything like that."

It's not my fault that our soldiers are completely dissillusioned and brainwashed. You cannot deny that the military is corrupt. I'm against our government and high ranking officers, not the soldiers who have been innocently corrupted. I will never serve for the army because my memory would be forgotten fighting for a country that thinks of its citizens as disposable. The military, and more so, our government, is evil. Don't tell me otherwise. Rather than criticzing the efforts of our soldiers, which are nothing short of incredible, I am criticizing the government relentless utilization of our troops for corrupt purposes/ends. The only thing I ma criticizing the soldiers about is that they do not possess the ability to question authority. I was told by a Vietnam War veteran, who revealed to me that he killed numerous people in that War, that if I was to live by one phrase, that phrase is to "always question authority."

Obviously you didn't read my posting, or perhaps ignored it, because I, as an ex-military guy, am obviously "brainwashed." Where in God's name do you get these notions, and from what life experience do you draw to then state them as fact? You are, sir, indeed a buffoon.

Yay!!! the adults are finally cool enough for facebook and tweeter!!!
you morons in your 40's+ are so out of touch with reality. Let me assure you, YOU DO NOT CARE ABOUT THIS VIDEO, regardless of the initial subjective emotional response you have at first glance. I've been seeing these videos since you Holes voted bush back in when I was in youth school. I've seen 20 million little kids screaming "F-iraq" in 10 million internet videos. These youtuber Soldiers are the Filth of America. Liveleak.com sheltered fools. I don't care how wise you think you are General or Col. or W/e this is the effect of the Counter Strike generation occupying the middle east, nothing more. Most of these guys have watched nick w/e get his head chopped off, and that CIA agent get his head blown off from behind with that AK, and "Ball torture", and a vid of an insrgent getting shelled by a m1a1, and of course the barret 50 cal slo mo shredding videos, not to mention the Saddam hanging. (these vids were an internet trend in mid 2000's, by word of mouth, even at jr high level) If you loonies hadn't been resisting the internet for so long we coulda nipped the problem in the butt, the fact that 2010 is when YOU(yeah YOU, you random pist off Mommy reading this article).. is when You finally discover the exploitation of non English speaking Iraqi children makes me sick...

There is so much wrong with your comment... if that is what you want to call it. I doesn't make you sound smart or cool to rant like you have. You comment that we are morons, however, you are the one who, not only cannot spell, but fail to (1) contribute to the commentary in a meaniful and thoughtful way and (2) make sense. In short, before you decide to post something online for all of the world to see, put your big boy or big girl pants on and conduct yourself like a semi-intelligent human being...

The times they were a changing alright. I can't believe that only now people are complaining of these exploitations.
It goes much further than this. Online video gaming was the problem and you guys missed it. Back when Sierra's PC hit, counter-strike was hot, so was the root of what has become the social networking/online media era. The interactions between 6, 8, 13, 15, 16, 23, 25 ect year olds, in an online military simulation toy, was to say the least, rated R from the get go. It was never the gameply, its the Humans. I just know the guys type aight? Gamers have to deal with these guys, not you! 😛 Naw but f'sho, he's that guy online who starts saying stuff worse than southpark to the younger kid because he hasn't hit puberty. Its ugly trust me.

I've got a sense of respect, and I don't have to prove it to anyone here.

As an gamer/student let me assure you, you have no IDEA the contamination that has already occurred. These guys are not going to school, dancing, drinking, having fun, and thats keeping the bar low. They're playing gears of war, Halo 3, speaking unspeakable things 24/7 to the youngsters, in between stations at Pendleton or wherever.
And OF COURSE NOT ALL, i got buddies, sheesh who doesn't ya living under a rock!
But its "That guy" that is the problem

Naw these punks didn't enroll, they enlisted. They were talking trash to 25 yrlds at 10, they were on myspace before you knew what t9 was, and they were watching bombs over bagdad on your internet/cable tab. Now we're into the second generation of soldiers with youtube accounts, still making kids say nasty crap, only this time CNN is plugged in, (conformity LAGGG) (no pun intended 😉 bout time its investigated.
      Ya'll ign'nint.
Attention!! MEMEME I love attention!!! SO MUCH!!! OF IT!!! (we all got a little American in us thats why ya hurr word?)

How this for an open sterotype.
The worst most filthy disgusting gamer, yet undoubtedly and ironically most honorable type of American is a soldier.
I wonder if its from all that killing.
I'm just glad this idiot did it on facebook so we can finally track one down. CNN, find out if he's a gamer I'll bet you 20 bucks. Prevention woulda been nice for a change

Btch don't worry about the level of education in a comment. We type 100wpm, we don't care, its not the point. Focus on the amount of reality in the comment. Reality is this Filthy mongrel Kids have seen this. you might think its sick, but thats cuz you werent paying attention when it was happening. You really don't remember all the junior high kids talking about Nick and his death? How pitiful. My point is this. The children were on facebook in 2002, they were watching beheadings, and they were discussing the videos showing 20 little iraq kids being tricked into screaming F iraq. Now, 8 years later, the "grownups" of 2002 are also on facebook, discussing the children being tricked into saying filthy terms. Always remember Whos to blame, and always remember that the older you get the longer you take to stay up to date.

Maybe you should "stay up to date" with your tech know-how. Facebook wasn't around in 2002. Additionally, Nick "BERG," aka w/e (to you, because you're dumb), was beheaded in 2004. Do some fact checking. That is a start to becoming more intelligent.

PS-being able to type 100wpm of crap is still just crap.

      NEway
I thought if I used the word "myspace" (which was around) some ppl wouldn't knw what it is. Speaking in general.
I don't know his name because I never watched that crap and don't really care what last name was frankly. But thanks anyway i guess in respect for him.

Then, Im gonna lol at you for going to wikipedia
and just point out that the children were social networking before the 2004 event mentioned.

Really made me sad to hear this story. So much sadness that the world can't come together. We are all human beings, we all inhabit the earth. I think it will end one day because of the hatred. I have read all these comments and you know what.... everybody has a good point. I pray it will change someday because i have a grandchild. three years old. I worry so much about her future. I wonder what kind of world does she have to grow up in. Pray hard.

Don't get confused, Doxie Girl. The world hates us because we believe in freedom – even when it makes other people mad."

    HAHAHAHAHA. Oh my.
'None are more hopelessly enslaved than those who falsely believe they are free.'

To those of you making pathetic excuses... get a grip. It IS a big deal, and it represents a much larger percentile of the Military than you so ignorantly believe. This reminds me of the Abu Ghraib incident... Not as extreme, obviously, but the 'extreme' cases aren't always posted on facebook. And yes, it seems that most of you are forgetting that not ONLY did this soldier record this incident, he also posted his great achievement on facebook. How am I, an Iraqi female, supposed to believe that the American soldiers are out there trying to 'help' (hah) when it is so evident they have no regard whatsoever to the wellbeing of the Iraqis? This just proves to me that they couldn't care less about them, so ah, try your best, convince me that they've got our best interest at heart.

And sorry to any 'good' soldiers out there; the ones who were brainwashed into thinking this is a noble war....

  9. SocialMediaFail

Would probably be fired for this if he was a civilian. Posting something of this nature is wholly inappropriate, especially for members of the military, despite the open nature of Facebook. I know there are good soldiers there with family on their minds that work to build good relationships with the youngsters there. This is unfortunate and I hope he is admonished.

Please do not judge all members of our Armed Forces by the actions of these one or two individuals. You mean to tell me he could not find any other way to amuse himself! He obviously did not stop to think if those two boys were his nephews or sons .....he would not be upset! If anything he should be trying to instill a sense of positiveness with those boys instead of mocking them. Just unacceptable! He should be reprimanded for this not discharged....we need all the people we can get over there right now. Put this guy on blast with his fellow soldiers! He needs to understand the seriousness of his actions.

  11. SGT the Convicted Felon

Chuck what you think a convicted felon is a murder, a rapist, a burglar, a bad person who has been in prison for awhile. I have been to jail because I made some wrong choices in my life, but I grew up. I set myself straight with the help of the United States Army and I am doing really well too. If you don't think convicted felons shouldn't join then you are as dumb as Harry Bautista. If I wasn't serving in Iraq right now for the third time, I could have been that guy who steals your car, robs your house, so on and so forth. So at anytime go ahead and Thank this Convicted Felon for joining and fighting for your freedom of speech and the comfortable lifestyle that you have, and not making your life a living hell. Harry I have one more year for my bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering. The Specialist is probably is as dumb as dirt and what he did was idiotic, especilly getting it on camera, I hope he loses his atleast one rank and gets his 45 and 45 when he gets back to the States.
