Iran's Red Crescent to send aid to Gaza

Iran's Red Crescent Society will try to break the Israeli blockade of Gaza by sending food and medical supplies "in the next few days," Iranian media reported Monday, citing an official with the organization.

Abdul Rauf Adibzadeh said relief goods will arrive in Gaza via Egypt crossing by the end of the week.

The aid group is also preparing to send two relief ships to the coast of Gaza, including a hospital ship with doctors, nurses and operating rooms and another vessel with more relief goods like food and medication, the IRNA and Mehr news agencies reported.

Israel stopped a convoy of six ships trying to deliver aid to Gaza last week in defiance of an Israeli blockade, killing at least nine people in the course of boarding one of the vessels.

I think you meant "killing nine people after being attacked". So much for responsible journalism. But since no name appers on the article no one is responsible but CNN.

    Dear David and Mike,

I am just curious, you know about all these comments that appear immediately on Israel related news. Are you guys paid for or is it some sort of volunteer operation? Do you work from home? how do you hide your IP's on an ongoing basis? Dont News services block you off after realising that you are not usual readers?

Oh, that's easy. You download an app for Firefox or IE sponsored by pro-Israeli groups and it automatically pops up with links to those articles about 2 in 30 minutes. And off you go to vote on page X and put a pre-formulated statement on page Y. I don't know if they already have an IPhone-app for that?

However: of course you could also install the same pro-Israel app to use the pop-ups to visit the same articles if you are on the contra-Israel side of the discussion ... which is probably not what they intended.

I also heard rumors that Iran is having an own version of the app to push Pro-Iran statements? Who's next? What about China or North Korea? Welcome to Cyber-Wars!

However: I guess the existence of this app alone explains a lot. AND explains why any such application should be banned.

There is nothing wrong with Israel stopping ships sent to Gaza to check for weapons, the purpose of the blockade is to prevent hamas being supplied with weapons. Israel is not trying to oppress the gazan civilians, but protecting them and israelis from being harmed by Hamas. Any ship with a true humaniarian mission would be allowed through after being checked for weapons. Because the previous flotilla was backed by a terrorist organization related to Turkey, the IDF raided it. This does not excuse the killing of civilians, however it does not make it okay for the media to portray Israel as a nation that is purposefully oppressing Palestinian civilians.

Your response is only half the issue. The blockade is intended to protect Israel from militant attacks but the blockade does so at the cost of the Palestinians. The blockade is a violation of human rights and does more to harm Palestinians than protect them.

You're better off arguing that the blockade protects Israelis than arguing that it protects both groups of people; the fact of the matter is that the blockade has completely screwed over Palestinians living in the Gaza strip.

It does not matter if even so much as 1 weapon was found or not. The blockade is in place to search for weapons and prevent their entry to Gaza it is not required to find weapons on every ship. The only ones that will be hurt if weapons do make it into Gaza is Israel. Israel and Egypt both have a standing blockade and both offer to convey the humanitarian aid to Gaza but only after it is searched for weapons. Coming from Israel a country that was shelled by Gaza on a daily basis for hundreds of days, their response (to search all incoming cargo) is hardly over the top. If you put yourself in harms way not because you have to but because you choose to Then you are not a peaceful activist. You are a lemming and you deserve the same fate as all the other lemmings that ran over the cliff. Activist+ignored instructions+armed soldiers= ???? What would happen if a car(carrying "peaceful activists" ) tried to run an American road block in Iraq ? I'll tell you they would be shot until the car stopped moving. I don't care who thinks they are right i only wonder what the activists thought was going to happen when they confronted armed men.

This is ridiculous...Iran is just pushing. Our country needs to continue its support of Israel. This blockade has been put in place and everyone knows it. This is just a push to undermine the sovereignty of Israel.

!!!!!!!!!, the answer is easy: The Israely authorities have not only the right but the duty to protect their citizens. The "poor abused Palestinian people" elected Hamas, whose political campaign was based on the promise of eradicating of Israel. I don't know about you (and frankly I don't care) but if my neighbors decided that I don't have a right to exist, I'd do my best to prove them wrong any way I could, regardless of their religion!

People love to analyse this as "X is backed by this group" and "Y is run by this organization" but so what? The reality is that ships of humanitarian (not "pro-Palestinian") supplies are being prevented from reaching their destination. This has nothing to do with terrorism or Hamas or Turks – and everything to do with freely transporting humanitarian supplies – including building materials – to a part of the world that has been severely damaged and is in need of reconstruction. So far as I know, these supplies have not arrived.

What saddens me greatly is to see a people who suffered in the ghettos of World War 2 meting out similar suffering (e.g. "collective punishment") to their neighbors. What are Palestinian lives worth to that Israelis? Apparently not so much. We're all just people – Jew, Moslem, Christian, Buddhist – can't we see past the "organizations" to appreciate the humanity of our neighbors?

The humanitarian aid included out of date medicine which expired in 2009 and a whole load of camouflage material both of which are absolutely essential to the well-being of Gazas citizens

How is it that any country or nations that creates a blockade no one would dare to defy their stance but with Israel this so called humanitarians refused Israel's and U.S advice to dock in Ashdod to take the supplies to the Jordanian citizens who called themselves palestinians, and they refused because they are determine to defy and challenge Israel in which is their true intent in doing? How is it they get the publicity but Israel's point of view is largely criticize and misunderstood! All this reporting is dirty! When the world sides with terrorist under the garb of humanitarian people trying to help people that their own citizens are punishing with their own terrorist act! Wake up people! Wake up! You will never would allow your countries to even put up if it was you with what Israel has to put up and to deal with.

IRAN?? I'm wondering if this is just a ploy to try to provoke Israel when they stop the ships. I can't imagine Iran doing anything purely humanitarian for ANYONE, let alone, Gaza.

    Guys thanks for the support
Just one issue: understand that israel has sbout 6 or 7 million citizens. no matter how strong we will try, our voice will never be as strong as world wide islams voice. add the fact that europe has s huuuge problems with islams at their cities which will one day, probably soon, will become more and more fanatics and than you got the real reason why europe doesnt stand for the true story. its only to keep their own islamic civilians happy and quiet. I prommiss you it wont take long till they will take over europe.
Thanks again for supporting us. it means a lot for us.

What a sick and twisted world, they condemn Israel for stopping this unauthorized flotilla from entering these waters,to deliver who knows what and when they defend themselves the world and the worthless United Nations condemns them. And a country like Iran is going to try to fly it's Jewish hating flag in these waters off the coast.Just stand back and let all this happen without the United Nations or the the United States or any other demacratic country, do anything to stop it and we're going to have a war that none of you will ever forget !!! By the way this is a good diversion so the the would will take it's eyes off Iran and there building there bomb. And Turkey was suppose to be a friend of Israel,I bet all the arab countrys suruonding Israel that hate Israel are real happy about this.So when war breaks out paint the picture yourself.

Guys, do not worry there is not going to be another "peace" ship coming to the shores of Gaza any time soon. Israel learns from mistakes. As for Iran, Israel is just looking for a reason to attack the nucler center Iran is developing lets hope I am wrong.
