White House correspondent Helen Thomas retires

Helen Thomas, middle, will retire effective immediately, her company said.

Veteran Washington reporter and columnist Helen Thomas announced Monday that she is retiring effective immediately, according to a statement from the Hearst Corporation.

Thomas's decision came days after her controversial statement that Jews should "get the hell out of Palestine."

"I deeply regret my comments I made last week regarding the Israelis and the Palestinians," Thomas said in a statement. "They do not reflect my heart-felt belief that peace will come to the Middle East only when all parties recognize the need for mutual respect and tolerance. May that day come soon.’’

Thomas under fire for saying Jews in Israel should go back to Germany, Poland

Helen has the same right as any one American to say what she feels is the real truth.
Tired of hearing about the Holocaust, there is no Holocaust for Jews today. How stupied to even bring the past up.!!!!
The only Holocaust today is the one Israel is doing to the Civilians to Palestine/Gaza....
None of your shows ever have let a Palestinian get on your show and tell there side...

It's amazing how how the Jewish Lobby works in the United States. They really cut Helen Thomas' head off and that's after her apologizing for her remarks. Oh no, the Jewish politicians never said bad things about the arabs or the muslims. Of course not. America's best friend?? tell that to the over 200 families who lost family members on the USS Liberty back in 1967 when Israel attacked, bombed and strafed OUR ship KNOWINGLY. Oh yeah, they said they were sorry...Doiuble standard?? of course niot, Not the Jews of Israel. What a joke.

In a way I am grateful for the nasty comments coming from Thomas.
She reminds many of us who need reminding, why Jews have the right (and need) for a land of their own. Thomas would send them away, to find their death in Europe as in WW2, or just go to hell – she wouldn't care.
What an angel. I do not believe her forced "apology" either.
Such people can not claim being pro human-rights, as they are one-sided. They could be pro-Arab at best, but a hating racist is more accurate here.

Are you serious? Do you honestly think that if a Jew travels to Germany in 2010 he or she will be killed? The Holocaust happened over 60 years ago. Besides, a Holocaust survivor was one of the passengers on the Freedom Flotilla, the one that was seized by the Israeli navy in international waters.

Shame on those who bow down to terrorism in this case the extremist Jews to let Helen go. She is absolutely right. And the hypocrisy of the Zionist population that would do to another person knowing full well the pain and suffering because it was done to them or a family member, The fact they would do the same to another just shows they are no better than the Nazi's in Germany. As such I am no longer effected by their poor us sob stories. They show why people may feel thereatened by extremist Jews and feel the need to protect themselves against them. They are just as hot for world domination as any other terrorits faction. And this article is just another step in proving that.

You really hate this for Helen? Helen made the mistake, and therefore, made her own bed to lie in. Wishing to send Jews back to the land in which they were summarily slaughtered from 1939 to 1945, is tantamount to a regret that any of (us) made it to the usa, either before the wars or after.

I hate that you can't see what is going on here. Of course, lefty, you have the right to support terrorists ad infinitum.

There are extremists in every group and that extremism must be addressed. That doesn't give another group of extremists the right to be blood thirsty !@#$%^* either. They all suck. Take all extremists and let them have at each other so the rest of us can live in peace. What sickens me to the core is that they all claim to be the most enlightened by God. If this is the best that the most enlightened by God can do it is a sad and pitiful situation.

She's not at the top of her game anymore, but has done great, historic work in her lifetime. she's been gotcha'd by a young journo, has apologized in writing, and retired. she's being a whole hell of a lot classier than the turds on here who no one will remember.

I feel bad for her. Any intelligent person knows what she meant. Her point was two-fold: Zionists are acting like spoiled children and are making some unsavory moves...AND the Jewish people should live throughout the entire world, rather than staying confined to a state that they were placed in after WWII (basically because no one else wanted them...Roosevelt wouldn't let them in the US at that time, either!) I agree with Garry, you can't say one thing about Israel, and if you do, you're a Nazi! It's ridiculous.

Helen, enjoy your retirement and forget about all these defensive loonies!

Over 11,000 Grads, Missles and Motars have been inflicted upon Israel in the past eight years, mostly from Gaza. At what point is Israel allowed to defend itself? It took a few hijacked planes to get us to declair war, why is Israel so different? FYI: Jewish people DO live throughout the entire world. FRY: Roosevelt didn't want to be seen as a Jewish sympathizer because he was worried that the Arab nations would reduce or cut off the oil supply to the U. S., not because he thought negatively about the Jews. The U.S. then supported the passing of Resolution 181, which created separate Jewish and Arab states. Later, the U.S. then became the first country to extend de facto recognition to the State of Israel, 11 minutes after it unilaterally declared itself independent.

Souza you have selective reality. 1) Zionists would do the same if anyone else placed a pinky toe on the line of their boarder so give me a break let alone 2) Totally move into land not theirs 3) Place and armed blockade to starve civilians including children. Who is the agressor here? When you kill people on a relief boat with a white flag? Zionists have blood on their hands and they are no better then Nazi's in that case.

The Jews didn't just go away, the Roman army ran them out in 70 AD. Brittin owned the land and then agreed to divide it up between the Jews and the Arabs. The Arabs weren't smart enought to take what was given to them. They wanted all or nothing. The Jews wanted to live in peace in the tiny piece of land they were given, but the Arab nations wouldn't let it. They formed military coalitions three times to try to wipe Israel off the map, and each time Israel won; and by winning it was able to expand its boarders. Now the Arabs want to call "foul" and get their land back. Tough luck, boys! To the victor go the spoils.

I agreed with her original statement and I think there are a lot of Americans who would agree. I can't help but believe the world would be a better place if the Jews were not given Palestinian land. Two wrongs don't don't make a right. Ever since Truman politicians have lost their spine. Zionists both Christian and Jew have been playing with self fulfilling prophecy for their own gain and don't care who gets hurt. The leaders of Israel must know, they're not stupid, that the Bible is a book of myths that was created about 2600 years ago. Some day this period of time may be called Josiah's Big Joke. I'm not laughing.

The only thing we should accuse Thomas of is her wrong wording, in the place of Jews should be 'Zionists', before anyone begins talking nonsense please check what our historians say. The state of Israel can be described as a molested child, having been molested at an early age it grows up to be the molester itself. Stop the Palestinian genocide. (P.s. We do not need more evidence than what is put forward that the Palestinians are being killed unjustly.)
