Holloway's mom urges prayers for Peru victim's family

Natalee Holloway disappeared in Aruba in 2005. Joran Van der Sloot was arrested twice, but never charged in the case.

The mother of Natalee Holloway on Tuesday urged her supporters to keep "in our hearts and in our prayers" the family of the woman that Joran van der Sloot is now accused of killing.

Beth Holloway made the remark at the opening of a resource center in Washington for the families of missing persons, a center that bears her daughter's name.

Van der Sloot was arrested twice in connection with Natalee Holloway's 2005 disappearance in Aruba but was released for lack of evidence. He denied any involvement and has not been charged in the Holloway case, but was arrested last week by authorities in Peru in connection with the killing of 21-year-old Stephany Flores Ramirez.

It is rediculously insane to blame this on the parents. Do you blame your parents for every single mistake you've made? Everyone is responsible for his/her own actions and words. That said, hopefully they allow tennis rackets in the prison and someone does unto Van der Sloot as he has done unto this young lady and who knows who else.

Van der Sloot should have already been in jail in Aruba, not on the streets to murder again. This is what happens when power and influnce keeps a loser on the streets. I hope they also go back and rearrest his two partners in crime in Aruba.

What is the point of providing a public outlet for these kind of postings? We have the deaths of two girls who died at the hands of a sociopath, let us have sympathy for their families and do what we can to try and make this world a better place.

Blood on the hands of the Dutch and Aruban justice system. They could've prevented this.

How gracious and moving of Ms. Twitty to include the Flores Family. Tragically, the Twitty and Flores family are now linked. Having read other reports on this subject, they stated that this monster is good at maniuplating his facial gestures and can cry at whim. From pictures of him in the past, his looks were very smug – almost taunting. It is extremely sad that another young life had to be taken – I sincerely hope neither beautiful girl died in vain. I would not be surprised if they find other victims who died at his hands. For those of you who receive enjoyment at the expense of others pain, please, do us all a favor and keep your comments to yourself. You are only showing your lack of compassion, moral compass, humanity and the most important thing – intelligence.

What a well-written post. Your comments are insightful and stated in a decorous, intelligent manner.

When you're as young as these two girls, it's hard to grasp that there are truly evil people in the world, evil people who look for and prey on their vulnerability and innocence. Both of these young women were victims of a sociopath who has no conscience or empathy, someone who has absolutely no remorse for the heartbreak and sorrow he has caused so many people. When I was a teenage, I put myself in situations that I now recognize were foolish and dangerous, but I was fortunate to never have encountered someone as evil as Van der Sloot. I pray for the friends and family of Natalee and Stephany, for I know their lives have been irrevocably changed & harmed by that monster. How do you get through that? I pray they will find comfort somehow. And to all of the people who aided Van Der Sloot and allowed him to avoid prosecution for Natalee's death, you are culpable for Stephany's tragic murder - and you will have to live with that knowledge for the rest of your lives.

  12. yes, prayer will help

Chalk up another wasted round of prayer. Enough of this already. "Prayer" didn't save Natalie's life, nor does it ease the suffering. "Prayer" didn't save the Peruvian's life, nor will it ease their suffering either.

And save the "prayer makes people feed better" line. If that were true, there would be no sadness and suffering in the world.

This was all part of God's "plan," right? HIS plan was to kill both these girls, right?

Bring it on "free-willers." That theory is flawed from start to finish.

You are confusing prayer with free will – two entirely different things.

    • please

Yes, "honestly," and dogs aren't the same as pecans, either, right?

My point is that people will pray in hopes it actually does something, which it obviously doesn't.

And when prayer doesn't work, it is because God gave men free will, which is just an excuse because religion is probably the most idiotic concept ever.
