U.S. finds minerals in Afghanistan worth billions

U.S. military officials and geologists have discovered mineral deposits in Afghanistan potentially worth over $908 billion, the Pentagon confirmed Monday.

Vast supplies of minerals such as iron, copper and gold, all with worldwide technological applications,

But officials caution that it won't be easy to extricate, and it will take years to turn this newfound mineral wealth into actual revenue.

Image how much of this money could be used to completely benefit Afghanistan and their 21.4 billion GDP (PPP)!

... imagine how much of this they'll see.

This data was found and detailed some 6 years ago. And it was a natural but more extensive geological study begun by Russian engineers in the 1980's. So why release this now? Has Chile whom is setting on most of the world's supply of Lithium, signed large lease and mineral rights agreements with China? China has been very active in signing mineral leases and securing mineral rights for China which America has entirely neglected and will severely pay for in the near future. Already China is beginning to reign in exports of its rare earth elements which a good many US Military weapons need to even be built, maintained and function. Entirely lacking rare earth elements would cripple the US Military and Defense Contractors ability's to develop new and more lethal weapon systems. Now China is largely holding the strings on allowing that or preventing that from happening. Sure, there are small deposits of rare earth elements in America but they are small and low grade. What is America waiting for, precious and rare minerals and elements are going to be not only scarce in the future, they'll be sold for outrageous prices to those that require them.

Again, what happened in Chile where the world's major Lithium deposits are located?

Why is this 2004-2006 data released now in 2010, is it to convince American's to stay in that crusty country?

I recall when Dick Cheney 'floated' the Iraq War would cost 50 Billion and Iraq's Oil field leases could be used to help offset the taxpayer dollars spent! Over 1 Trillion American taxpayer dollars were spent, many American lives lost and China bought most of the Oil leases when they came up for bidding at pennys on the dollar prices. As usual American taxpayers living on Main Street, USA paid for these Wars with their money and lives and got less than nothing in return.

Doesn't this newly found mineral wealth belong to Afghanistan??
Why does the US sound so eager to make a fortune off of minerals that are not in US 'territory'!??
