[Updated at 11:30 a.m.] The 52-year-old American who was detained in Pakistan, where he said he was looking for Osama Bin Laden, is a Colorado man who works as an independent contractor.
"My brother is not crazy. He is highly intelligent and loves his country and he has not forgotten what Osama has done to this country," Scott Faulkner, brother of Gary Brooks Faulkner, told CNN.
[Posted at 8:53 a.m.] A 52-year-old American citizen who said he was searching for Osama bin Laden was detained in Pakistan near the border with Afghanistan this week, Pakistani police said Tuesday.
The Californian named Gary Brooks Faulkner was carrying a pistol, a sword, night-vision equipment and Christian religious books, said Mumtaz Ahmed, a police chief in the area.
Faulkner was detained as he was walking from Pakistan toward the border into Nuristan province in Afghanistan, Ahmed said. He told police that he had been looking for bin Laden since 9/11 and had traveled to the area several times before, Ahmed said.
U.S. Embassy Spokesman Richard Snelsire did not confirm that Faulkner had been detained but said that the consulate in Peshawar did receive notification of the detention of an American citizen. Snelsire said they were trying to get more details.
"We're hoping to get consular access to the individual," Snelsire said.
Faulkner told police that he had no intention of killing bin Laden, Ahmed said. But police believed he was trying to kill bin Laden because of the weapons he was carrying, according to Ahmed.

damiao.....I'm tired of looking at you already....please stop posting on EVERY blog.....
What hell is this, man? I dunno what's the reason you are upset for? CNN is a democratic website blog I just want to spread my website, honestly I respect everybody here in the blog, anyway....apologyse if I offend someone here.
Please go spread your website through some other media. This is a blog forum...not an advertising forum. A lot of us get real tired of seeing you advertising your website here. CNN, can you give this guy the boot?
He might as well have been searching for those WMD's.
ghost busters...lol
Bin Laden is burried next to Jimmy Hoffa!
At least someone is spending time looking for him! Because Heaven knows that no one else cares too! Pakistan probably realized that this guy had a good chance of finding him and they wanted to make sure that doesn't happen since they have protected and harbored him all this time. They better release this man and allow him to continue on his hunt to bring this criminal responsible for so much terrorism against this country to justice.
I say let him look!!! He's got as good a chance as anybody else.
Not crazy huh? Not likely.
I agree with Stacy Howie you big wuss.
Obviously, neither of you two have ever been outside of America. Please go join him in his search and I'm sure the combined brain power of the three of you will be enough to find him.
He is a terrorist – other sources say that he was carrying dialysis medicine etc as well, and guess who would br needing that?
This man is a great American Hero and should be awarded the Medal of Freedom. I feel its time that we the people become more involved in the hunt down of this dog and his associates. I encourage all Americans to become involved in this great American Hunt for this Dog.
Osama "the dooshbag" Bin Laden. with Kidney failure...if he isn't dead he isn't far from it.
If this man has not broken any laws, then he should be released. Carrying weapons in that part of the world is not illegal. Everyone does it. When and if he succeeds, he should replace Wimpy Obama. 😉
