Court rules Bobby Fischer's body can be exhumed

American chess guru Bobby Fischer shakes hands with chess master Boris Spassky before their match in 1992.

Iceland's supreme court Thursday ruled in favor of a request by Jinky Young, the alleged daughter of Bobby Fischer, to exhume the chess master's remains, Young's lawyer told CNN.

Even if they got the info from a twitter page this reflects the new way open source information is gathered and quantified. A ton has changed with mainstream media in the last two years.

No it's how rumors are spread/regurgitated. There is no orginal thought here. No investigative reporting, just echoing. Without asking the who/what/where/when/why and the most important one: SO WHAT? you are just pushing electrons and stealing the time I wasted reading this garbage...What made this article interesting was the feedback rather than the article itself. The feedback (some humorous and some providing insight) was better. But people need to develop original thought- have a premise/predication statement and go with it...We could have learned more from the report if we knew about the paternity test issue rather than a judge ruling. Since 3 hours ago with my first post NOTHING HAS FURTHER DEVELOPED. But I just went to http://www.msnbc.com and found a complete article by AP Jennifer Quinn on the subject. It is sad that everyone is all about trying to get the scoop on a report first and then rarely go and do factual reporting with detailed analysis...This report is a classic example of the degradation in reporting that CNN needs to fix if they are to remain respectable and reputable in the news industry...

      CNN, I am underwhelmed...

This must mean a pawn reached the other side of the board and now we get Bobby Fischer back.

Doesn't BF (not Big Foot) have any other living relatives available to test, without disturbing him?

We live in a society that is largely generated by money and we are left to assume that money is involved here also.
Didn't she want to know her father when he was alive or was a paternity test refused by the 'suposed father' knowing this person was out to get his money?

Yeah those 9-year-olds are tricky that way. It's always BUY ME FOOD this and LET ME IN OUT OF THE RAIN that.

      Kill yourself now.

Agree with Lube, no other living relatives of BF that could be tested for this purpose, leave the dead alone.

Looks like this man had a case of yellow fever.

They have ethnic Asians in Iceland... Laplanders! They look like Mongolians sometimes. Amazing!

Look up from your flag and notice that the Native Americans are also Asians and look like it. They are the decendents of the Mongolians who crossed the Bering Strait. On the east coast there is a strong thread of "french" DNA from the people who came over along the ice shelf during the last ice age. So, eastern natives are a cross between Mongolian and the early people in the South of Europe. They say there is no pure racial group.

The Saami, the proper and polite term for the Laplanders, are not Asian. They are a unique ethnic group, the largest in Eurpoe, and their language is part of the Finish-hungarian group.

I find it hard to believe Jinky requested this, considering she was born in 2001. I don't know many 9 years olds well versed in DNA testing.

It's possible her *mother* requested this, but that's a whole other can of worms.

Probably best not to use "can of worms" when discussing an exhumation of a body.

It's possible he's not in his coffin! Bobby Fischer pulled a disappearing act after 1972 in Reykjavik. Now it's his chance
to show the world how sly he really is!

I can't believe how rude some of you are. If this was your young daughter (9 yrs. old) would you like people making these kind of comments? I doubt it!! For those who didn't see the mother of the alledged daughter was his live in partner not some street walker. They were raising the girl as a family unit & as such she has the right to be able to continue living in the way they were. Children are not cheap to raise & Mr. Fischer would have had to pay to support this daughter if he was still alive. Get a grip!! Not the little girls fault!

      Right on Nikki.

What is it that makes some people get off on being jerks in public? I don't understand bullying but at least in person there seems to be some reasons if not excuses. Online I just don't get it. I guess these are the bullies who do not have the balls to do it in person and, likely, have no one near them to bully: Like family or friends. Maybe they think they are funny. Not to actual humans they aren't. Oh well.

Was this so earth-shaking that CNN could not wait until more info was obtained to publish a more complete news story?? Filling the space with bait, CNN. Shame on you; you put England's taloids to shame.

You sound like a toddler who has just figured out how to say "poo". I suspect you have some sort of perversion where you get off on using baby words for bodily functions in public. I hope you had a good one.

Whatever the moral implications, the financial responsibiliy for the exhumation and all related services – including re-burial – should be born by Jinky's family in the event the DNA tests are negative. And CNN?? You just ain't what you used to be.
