Kevin Costner's creation could aid oil cleanup

[cnn-video url="http://www.cnn.com/video/?/video/us/2010/06/17/bts.Costner.hearing.cnn"]

Actor and director Kevin Costner told a Senate subcommittee on Thursday that he feels somewhat vindicated now that BP has purchased a machine he helped develop years ago that separates oil from seawater.

The Senate Small Business Committee is evaluating proposals to clean up the Gulf Coast oil disaster.

Costner told committee members that the burden of cleaning up the oil in the Gulf of Mexico rests solely with the oil industry.

"For them to get over the bar of safety and pay the price is not too much to ask," he said. "It is not too much to ask for them to have to put in place the safeguards, the redundancies and muster the sheer will to throw an overwhelming response to the problem now."

Earlier this month, he told CNN's Anderson Cooper that BP ordered 32 machines from Costner's company. The devices use a centrifuge mechanism to separate oil from water and recycle the crude at the same time.

    Why can't we use a
    HEART HI-TECH to Plug
    The oil pipe,,?
Put A Big Stent Block Down Pipe and
Unfold it to slow down the flow to Plug it

read the (just published) update of my article, with my NEW idea to STOP the oil spill, reusing (in a different way) the giant BP "dome" already used in the (failed) first attempt to fix the oil leak:

What BP has been doing so far is trying to stop the leak from above the structure over the well. What they should do instead is to take away all these complicated metal structures and deal directly with the opening of the well on the ocean floor.
Then they should insert one or several heavy objects of such a shape and size that can slide or forced in inside the hole to a certain depth and either detonate the well shaft or work a mechanism that the mentioned object expands back claws or somehow and stops the flow.

Missing Coast Guard & EPA Approved Oil Skimmers Found!

The SEABAT Model 150 Power Skimmer draws contaminated liquid over a Delta Gate concentrating oil ahead of a floating weir. The oil is drawn over the weir with an onboard transfer pump capable of over 150 gpm. The recovered liquid is pumped to a containment vessel at better than 95% oil. The water drawn into the skimmer is expelled from the rear by means of an induction propeller. This process literally draws the contaminated water to the skimmer for removal rather than chasing it! The entire unit weighs less than 230 tbs. and is powered by a 10 hp hydraulic supply capable of 8 gpm at 2500 psi, and can be operated in as little as 18 inches of water! With crude oil prices in excess of $60/bbl. The SEABAT Model 150 Power Skimmer can recover as much as $ 12,857.14 of oil each hour of operation, returning the cost of your initial investment in a matter of hours! Factor in the savings from possible fines and the SEABAT Model 150 Power Skimmer is an invaluable asset in the recovery of floating hydrocarbons. Applications range from inPlant collection sumps or reservoirs to major/spills in lakes, rivers, and streams as well as offshore applications. Other “Large Scale” skimming vessels cannot compete with the SEABAT Model 150 Power Skimmer as regulations do not permit the excess water picked up along with the oil to be returned directly to the source requiring expensive process treatment for its return to the water stream. The SEABAT Model 150 Power Skimmer actually rides the waves virtually eliminating water breaking over the weir.

Kevin Costner has a machine to take oil out of the water. Why can't he get it up and sell it to the U.S. and make profit off of it? He could get up about 200,000 gallons of oil in 1 secound and dehydrate it, and it was found in international water. With the profit he made he could donate the money to the residents of the coast and help them out. If it was in your yard it would be yours because it is on your property. We could also have fishing for oil instead of fishing for fish. If you have the same intentive call me at (856)-905-6109.

The Costner thing is such baloney.

I sell centrifugal separators. There are at least a dozen companies that make basically the same thing. Its not rocket science, gravity pulls on water harder than oil, spin a solution and the oil goes to the middle while the water goes to the sides. You pull the oil from the middle. This kind of machine has been in existence for over a century.

Now here comes Costner with some one man operation he pushes as a revolutionary company telling the world that he knows what the heck he's doing. Oh really? Lets do some simple math. You would need thousands of the machines he is pushing running 24/7 for decades to run all the water in the gulf through the equipment. There is a current you say? Well darn, that means by the time you processed less than a millionth of the water in the gulf, it will be flushed into the current. Thats why none of the rest of us are pushing this as a viable solution. Its retarded to think 32 machine, heck 3200 machines if you want, will have any impact whatsoever on the volume of oil now out there.

Its simply not plausible for these little machines to have any significant impact on the spill. Its all for show and this guy is using the public's lack of understanding to shame BP into buying his stuff.

The only real solution is producing enzymes that digest hydrocarbons. Its simple technology that is widely available. You spray the water with the solution and the bugs work their magic. The only byproduct is carbon dioxide and water. The downside however is that the enzymes pull oxygen from the water causing fish kills. Well, the fish are fubared anyway so spray away.

The only point he actually has is that there is no concerted effort to evaluate the solutions that BP are receiving. You call BP and they tell you to go register your product on their web site. You do that then no one ever looks at what you submitted or ever calls you. They only respond when someone like Costner goes to the press and complains that BP isn't looking at what they market. Then then buy enough of what ever stuff is being complained about to shut up who ever is complaining.

Congrats Costner on your multi million dollar contract. Looks like you will actually have to hire the people now to build these things. I bet its 2011 before the first one is delivered.

It is amazing to me all of these actors (people who make a living, most of the time MORE than a living, pretending to be someone else) that are all of a sudden engineers. Who would have thought that James Cameron and Kevin Costner could do anything besides act? Heck, if we get Oprah, Bill Clinton, 50 Cent, and Rachel Maddow, this problem might have been solved before oil ever reached even then surface of the water. Please help us Hollywood and left wingers, your soooooo smart, (and pretty).

Everyone who has a great idea or invention should tell everyone who has any power who can use it now. This is not the time for us to be fighting with each other, complaining, finger pointing, accusing. We, as Americans must unite now, pray for a speedy solution and get the oil cleaned up. Mr. James Olmos said on YOUTUBE that he has friends with boats who want to help. I pray that whoever won't let them has a change of heart realizing how serious this is.

I don't want to see people dying over this or mass evacuation or hysteria, please. We must do all we can to see this fixed immediately.

May God deliver us from our enemies and those who are not doing what they should.

What I don't understand is that....I was told there are safety valves that can be turned off. And...there's something that's supposed to be in a submersible that can be used to turn off the pipe too. What happened with that?

There has to be a way to plug up that hole/pipe.

GOD ALMIGHTY, please help us. Please save America. We need YOU now more than ever.

Blah Blah Blah! Just get out there and DO SOMETHING and quit talking. This is 2 months into the spill and its not getting any better but worse. Get off your high horse and fix this mess. This country is notorious for talking and no action. God it gets old. There are so many people who want to help with the cleanup and are being told to get off the beaches. We as Americans have the right to be on those beaches and help with the cleanup effort. If the government and BP aren't dong their job then get out of the way and let these states do what they have to do.
