BP oil collection interrupted

BP stopped recovering oil gushing into the Gulf of Mexico on Friday night because of a problem aboard the drilling ship Discover Enterprise, said Ayla Kelley, spokesperson for the Deepwater Horizon Command Center. Oil collection stopped for 10 hours, resuming at 7:30 a.m. Saturday.

It isn't that hard to stop driving. If I need to get to work I will just use the bus, or ride my bike everywhere else. I don't use the A/C (and I live in the Nevada desert) and can easily reduce my power bill by unplugging most of my stuff. The fact is people don't need oil, but they're addicted to it. Nobody needs anything more than the shade of a tree in the summer, and if people planned ahead they could easily do their grocery shopping by bike. I've had to live with a bike only for years, which meant I had to plan ahead, yes, and give myself a couple of hours to make the long trips, but back then I was healthy and weighed a nice 102 pounds, all muscle. But people love to cling to their right to be fat, lazy, and dirty. If you can't walk down the street without using a car, you will probably not survive the new world.

The well can't be capped due to the riser being compromised below the sea floor and the BOP is leaning meaning the riser is in danger of breaking below the sea floor if it falls over. Now eveyrbody stop and think, WHO really caused this mess?? For those who can't thank, it was our great U.S. Government and the MMS department and inspectors who are bought and paid for by Big Oil. It isn't just Obama and his group, it goes WAY back. With this country split by political parties nothing will ever change so everyone continue on with you lives like nothing has happened.

Very well put Greg. A company like BP has got it's oily little fingers in so many pies it's ridiculous. You're using your PC right now? I'll bet BP had something to do with it.

i think we should ask iran if they have a itsy bitsy nuclear weapon we could borrow to blow up the oil leak.

I've got a radical idea. Since we have over 3800 offshore rigs in this country. Why don't states have a plan to deal with a spill? I understand the rigs may be in international or federal waters, but just in case we did not know this before....we have found out oil floats and drifts with currents and winds. It may actually drift into that states' waters. The states need to have an emergency plan for containment along with the federal governemnt. I know it's like a personal reponsibility thing, but this may have worked and perhaps reduced some of the blame game thing. Of course, the oil company would pay the bills. I'm just thinking???

Why not just run triple shifts at all the existing wells, so we can suck the Earth dry of all it's oil. That way, the leak will stop faster. Yeah, that's it.

Don is right. There have been reports that the BOP is starting to tilt. It’s time to pray that the relief wells work. If they don’t, we will be looking at about 55 billion gallons that will gush into the ocean. Enjoy your life people, because this isn't good.

How would anyone know whether BP is working or not? You mean, someone is actually checking on that sort of thing? Wow, cool.

    OK you want a solution:

Right now. They need to put all the scooper badges and tankers and water separators from around the world they can to clean it up! Simple! They need to make a long (flexible) socks to slip over the breach and funnel the oil into holding tanks some how!..... If it's a flexible hose then they don't need to have a mechanical connection, just slip it on. like a rubber (with and elastic band at the neck) and contain the spill. (kinda like a condom works to contain the blast, sorry but that's the best way to put it) This is done by using robots made for the job (they are already using them). Even if they had something like balloons that would fill up with the oil, and then be released to drift away for recovery later , and then changed out with the next balloon and so on, they could contain it much better than this.

IN the future spills should be cleaned up by "full time" "World Emergency Oil Recovery and Response Teams", who are trained in this sort of thing. And working around the world to clean up other trash in the oceans the rest of the time or safely transporting oil to help pay for their services. This will create jobs!

It would be simple to have giant ships built or fitted with giant vacuums (with long hoses) and (protected divers) that "suck the oil – and water – in, as it comes out of the leak" and then they return it to the sea in a 85%-90% improved state, by separating it "somehow" (oil floats doesn't it?) "in side" of huge tanks . Then have other skimmers (with smaller filters or seperators) then remove another 10%.of film and residue from the clean up site (filter the water around the site).

To do the least harm to the invoronment! They have to be on the spill with- in at least 24 hours, with 5-10 big ships (depending on the spill) ready to vacuum the oil and separate it from the water, , then transport it to other ships or then take it somewhere and refine it. "There is still other $$ money$$ to be made (recovered) off of it."

WHen not in use for clean up opps , These same ships could n be used to safely transport oil around the world all the time, because, they can clean up their own spills as soon as they start.
So building a fleet of them and keep making them would be not only be profitable but responsible and therefore and good company to buy gas or products from!

Time is everything , we have to be able to act immediatly! When the red wine tips over on the table, do we not pick the glass back up immediatly, to keep it from getting to the carpet?

This should be helped Paid for, buy any oil company who drills or ships oil in the oceans of Earth. Simple! Kinda like " clean up insurance" ! Oil Loss & Disater insurance. It will lower their fines also when they do have accidents. Simply by containing the damage it does to the invironment, so their is less liability. Its possible.... This one disater alone in the Gulf, could have paid for ten of these ships and crews, such as these suggested, by the time its done!

Simple, they don't want the insurnace , then the united countries on global recovery, don't buy much of their oil... Come on – its a green world now! We have to think like it in really big ways, to make really big changes to clean up our planet, for our chilrdren and for all children to come!

This solution will work and is viable, if greed wasn't such a problem in the firrst place.
So .........Any solutions to curing greed, thats the planets biggest problem?

After Hundreds of Millions of Gallons of toxic, poisonous and carcinogenic crude Oil has poured into the Gulf of Mexico, what's another 2 Million gallons per day that a recovery ship is not on station? That region is poisoned for decades, the methane gas alone has created an enormous Dead Zone where available Ocean oxygen is far to low to support aquatic life. Dead is Dead!
