Mexico asks court to reject Arizona immigration law

Mexico on Tuesday filed a brief in federal court in Arizona supporting a lawsuit challenging the constitutionality of a tough new immigration law, Mexico's ambassador to the United States, Arturo Sarukhan, said on his Twitter account.

Why shouldn't Arizona have this law? I can't go to Mexico, Greece, Italy, or any other country without a passport. They are not here as a guest, they came here knowing the risk. Our country fought and is still fighting for our beliefs and why should someone take it away from us. If they want to be here, than they should come over here the right way and earn the right to stay. Also, what the diffrence? If I go to Mexico and buy land the Mexico government can take it away from me even tho I paid for it.

Yeah you need a passport but to come in US you need a visa too (if you wanna come here the right way), witch you don't have to get when you go to other countries, to most of them ... why because of blue color of Passport 🙂

"I can't go to Mexico, Greece, Italy, or any other country without a passport."

The problem is not crossing the border, Bill. All countries on earth have similar requirements.

The problem with this law is that it is applied INSIDE the US, making us a police state.

The only reason you need a passport to enter Mexico is it is now required to return to the states. This is a very recent requirement by the U.S. government, not Mexico.

Furthermore, land in Mexico near the ocean or near the border must be purchased thru a bank trust. The Mexican government can not and will not take away the land or house. Away from the oceans or the border, you purchase land just the way you do in U.S. Please do some research before mindlessly posting an an attempt to sway anti-Mexican fervor.

Elay, you're incorrect. In order for me to visit my family in Hungary I have to go through the motions of a tourist visa. Many countries have this particular requirement if you plan to stay past a certain number of days. The US is not unique in this requirement.

Gee Ramon, I can see that you aren't used to living in a country that has LAWS in it. So any country that has its own internal laws is a Police State? Why don't you go back to Mexico where there are no laws. Then you will be comfortable again, Mr. illegal alien.

CARL makes it all pretty clear, above. He said it much kinder than I am about to: MEXICO has its own burden to deal with – and it is MEXICO's responsibility to do so. Mexico has absolutely NO right to demand ANYTHING of the USA – and the USA does not need MEXICO's "problems and rejects". Maybe they can send them to Afganistan and Pakistan...but that would be a tad more than a "Dirty Dozen"...

Arizona should file a counter suit against the Mexican government for reimbursement of all the welfare and prison services their citizens receive from the Arizona taxpayers. BP is held accountable for their damages why shouldn't Mexico be accountable for their mess.

Try to get into Germany, France, Italy, Iran, Iraq, or even Canada without a passport. Don't want to carry a passport or Visa; become a LEGAL citizen like every other immigrant to America. Illegal immigrants pay state sales tax; true. Illegal immigrants DO NOT PAY Federal Income Tax Withholding, Insurance, car registration, Medicare, school tax, State Income tax...and yet they use our schools, hospitals and other social services. It's a drain on our economy but that's beside the point. If you are here illegally you are breaking the LAW....POINT BLANK!! And Mexico....take care of your own drug problems and killings.

you don't need stupid visa to come to Europe. The US has unfair visa laws and this is why you have so many people who overstay visas or violate their visa requirements. If they could change visa type, or legally get work permit when they get jobs here everything would be fine, and the US would get richer too because those immigrants would pay taxes. There is a mess because the law does not treat people like humans, but rather like nowadays slaves!

Arizona's law enforces the Federal Government laws, but they don't enforce them. So, Arizona is hanged out to dry. Now, the cartels are threatening our local officers. What are next state and federal officers? Next will be the citizens themselves. Again, enough is enough.

Bill – for many or even the majority of Mexican people who don't have family here legally already, they aren't able to qualify to live and work here legally (even if they already reside in the United States). I'm under the impression that many of the posters think that you just apply for a green card like you would for a driver's license. The process does not provide a method for many people, even if they want to become "legal" and leaves many, many law-abiding, tax-paying (granted, probably not income tax) people without any ability to reside and work here legally.

For all of you who want all people here illegally to leave, it's your right to an opinion and certainly supported by the current law in Arizona and federal law. Please understand, though, that so many of these people from Mexico cannot come here legally due to the current immigration laws.

For all of you who talk about "roaches," you are the lowest form of vile. You do, however, give ample support to the argument that this law is racist. If you're on the same political side with people who call Mexicans "roaches," you should maybe take a look at the side that you're on.

toriram, no one I know hates LEGAL immigrants. It's the illegal ones that come and stay illegal, don't bother to learn our language and expect us to pay for their education and health care that most people have a problem with. Yes we are a country of immigrants, but our ancestors came here looking for a better life and assimilated into the american way of life – they learned the language, they paid taxes and taught their kids to respect the american way of life. If they can't do that – why should we continue to pay for them to be here?

Actually, most immigrants from Mexico want the same thing, but the system is way behind about 10 years on a waiting list to get naturalized. I should know, my dad was naturalized and became a citizen many years ago and taught me to respect the American way of life, but I haven't forgotten how hard my dad had to work to become a citizen and that's why I have empathy for most immigrants. If you don't want to pay taxes, then go away, but most do.

In reply to Doug, the US does NOT have an official language. When we go to other countries, we are not required to speak their language either. Granted, it's helpful, and should be common knowledge to educate yourself on a native language before you go to a foreign country. But NOT required!!! You think people in Paris and Cancun enjoy having people ask them where the bathroom is in a language they probably don't know? It works both ways.

Although I somewhat agree with you, to put such a broad blanket on all illegal immigrants in this country is pretty ignorant I think. If that's all you're concerned about, then think of all the citizens who have been on welfare for over 10 years and have more than 5 kids and have never worked a day in their life. Believe me, there are plenty of US Citizens living like that now, they never have worked, so they don't pay taxes either. What about the single illegal worker who is here working and sending all his money home, you must be ok with that? He/she is not using any services, he might not be paying taxes, but all his family is back home, so he's not using any social servics. My point here is, think about the whole situation before you get all in a tiff and spew your anger.

My concern with this immigration issue isn't taxes or illegal children in our schools or illegals using our hospitals on our tax dollars. It's security, border security and that's about it. Both the Northern border and southern border should be secure and nobody of any race/country, Canadian, Mexican, Chinese, Vietnames, Middle Eastern..etc....should be able to come in our out without being checked.

American Citizen is correct. Do you realize that approximately 47% of US citizens pay NO income tax? Illegal aliens pay sales taxes, property taxes, and federal excise taxes just like anyone else. Schools are generally funded by property taxes and sales taxes, so the fact that someone does not pay income taxes doesn't matter. Illegal aliens pay these taxes, yet have no access to benefits that US citizens do (i.e., welfare, unemployment, disability, Medicaid, Social Security), so they are not getting the free ride that you think they are. There was a study done a couple years ago by the University of Arizona that shows that states actually make money off of illegal aliens. Here is a link: http://udallcenter.arizona.edu/immigration/publications/impactofimmigrants08.pdf. The real problem as far as a drain on our resources is the lazy US citizen who doesn't work yet collects a welfare check or has some fake "disability". Those are the people who contribute nothing to our society yet are being funded by our tax dollars.

American Citizen: “ My concern with this immigration issue isn't taxes or illegal children in our schools or illegals using our hospitals on our tax dollars. It's security, border security and that's about it”
Nancy: “Schools are generally funded by property taxes and sales taxes, so the fact that someone does not pay income taxes doesn't matter. Illegal aliens pay these taxes, yet have no access to benefits that US citizens do (i.e., welfare, unemployment, disability, Medicaid, Social Security), so they are not getting the free ride that you think they are”
I totally, agree. Welfare already existing in the US is a mess. It’s ridiculous that we have allowed generations to use it as a way of life. It needs to be fixed. But, to compare it to illegals? I wouldn’t be so quick to call others ignorant. First, are we talking about the same illegal aliens? According to you, Nancy, they pay property taxes (true, there are some illegals that are home owners, but not where I live) and do not have advantages such as the services you listed. WHERE DO YOU LIVE? The illegal aliens that I see (thousands) every day, most certainly do have access to all those services. Apparently, you missed what part of this debate is about. American Citizen, I’ve seen hospital after hospital close down because they cannot keep up with the costs of supporting illegal aliens. This, then in turn, creates more costs for the state and citizens that pay into our systems. This is not a concern for you? Doesn’t bother you that millions of American citizens are being pushed out of available, close for emergency locations? How about the people that lost their jobs due to pay cuts. Second, neither of you are parents yet, correct? Because, if you were, and your property taxes on the home that you busted your butt to get, in a nice neighborhood, was supporting the local school housing all of the illegal aliens, then my hunch is you might feel very differently. Why? Because if you live where I live, I cannot send my daughter to her home location school. I could if it didn’t bother me that 92% of the class was entering kindergarten with NO ENGLISH language skills, and that 30 kids will be in her kindergarten class, and well, the teachers will spend all day being forced to teach those kids here illegally to speak English – while my daughter sits and waits? Don’t think so. So, on top of my property taxes – which I assure you is much more in total than the taxes any illegal pays for whatever – I’m not forced to come up with money for public school. Something I never thought I would consider since I went to a wonderful public school when I was young.
This is very sad to me. Sad to hear that things that are important to any community are no concern of yours. Security is first, I agree with that. There are more threats out there that trump the social/tax issues – but that doesn’t mean that while we’re trying to prevent someone from bombing our country we just turn our backs to the slow destruction that is taking place before our eyes? This is self destruction. I can’t think of a better word for it.

Of course Mexico wants the law repealed, they encourage their people to come to America, therefore less people for them to take care of. The U.S. is in "out of control debt" – supporting millions of people who don't have health care and don't pay taxes, and providing bilingual teachers, social workers, etc – is a large burden that we all pay for. The Federal Government needs to do their job – then the states wouldn't have to. The Federal Government has turned the other way for far too long. Obama wants to waste more of our money to sue Arizona – what an idiot! Personnaly I wouldn't follow him anywhere!

I don't think Arizona law is open to a challenge from the Mexican government.

Not saying I agree with the Arizona laws, but still – stay out of our business.

The only U.S. law the Mexicans should be concerned with is adhering to our policy of legal immigration and/or any other entry into this country. So there!

Democracy is based upon 51% of the people telling the other 49% what it can and can't do. If you denounce your US citizenship, then please do so legally and go live in another country that you think will accept you. Try visiting other countries before you decide to be anti-American. They immigrate because they recognize the USA as being the best country on earth (far from perfect, but still the best). They would love to have your citizenship.

How about changing your on-line name to "completely out of Touch with Reality". Did you even bother to read the subject matter of the article? Where in the article or in any of the others comments was "race" even mentioned? It's people like you that can turn issues such as "Global Warming", Foreign Trade, and Off-shore oil exploration, into "racists" issues. Get over yourself!!!

There is nothing racist about this law. Americans don't mind Legal Immigrants. It's the illegals who live like leaches off of the system that we do mind.

I don't understand why every one is opposed to this law – well, all the guilty ones are opposed. I have to be ID'd to get liquor, when I get pulled over, entering certain establishments, applying for a job, and many other things. So why can't they? B/c they want to keep riding the free horse is why. Well, sorry, even baby birds must learn to fly and these people got to learn they can't get a free ride.

Oh, by the way, I'm from South West Louisiana. My grandparents spoke nothing but French growing up and when they went to school, had their hands slapped with rulers until they learned to speak English. French wasn't allowed to be spoken any where near the school. So I don't see the problem as to why their children can't learn English but I have to learn Spanish. I think not.

Touch of Reality: you might want a "touch of english education" so that when you post, the rest of us can make any sense of your run-on, unpunctuated, grammatically incorrect blather.

Mexico should keep to it's own business and solve there financial problems so their people would stay there instead of coming to the US and causing havoc. MIND YOUR OWN BUSINESS and stay out of our courts as you have NO rights in this country.

The Mexican government should take care of there own people and quit making drug deals with the cartels. It's pretty sad that my tax dollars are going to support illegals that come here and make babies here and take advantage of my country. Ileegals are not stupid, they know what they are doing when they come here to the U.S.
