Security Brief: What happened at McChrystal, Obama meeting

A source close to Gen. Stanley McChrystal provided the first account of what happened in Wednesday's White House meeting between the general and President Barack Obama.

According to the source, McChrystal briefly explained the magazine article at the center of the controversy and took responsibility, then offered his resignation. Obama accepted the resignation, the source said.

The president "had no intention of keeping him," according to the source.

In addition, the source said McChrystal will not return to Afghanistan. His team will go back to pack up on his behalf.

Obama is a good guy, and shows a lot of sympathy for Americans. Does that make him a good president? NO! The crisis in the Gulf is worse than Bush's response to Katrina. It is rumored that Russians used Nukes to stop oil leaks in deep water wells to prevent massive spills, why didn't we even attempt some alternative methods.

McChrystal needed to be let go, Obama got that correct in accepting his resignation. The soldiers in the military are being prevented from engaging the enemy when they are being attacked if civilians are around, does this sound similar to the war in Vietnam. They shoot at us and then hide within the civilians and the civilians are scared to point them out bc they will be killed.

Saving jobs in America, come on, you got to be kidding me. This is the worst economy ever. There is no control over Wall Steet and the SEC is a joke. The Bailouts only added more debt to our grandchildren and we are starting to look like Greece. It's going to be ironic when the greatest nation in the World is Bankrupt. If you have debt, pay it off. If you can't afford it, don't buy it.

It's up to Americans to step up and right the ship. We may have to take jobs we don't like. Live within our paychecks, and no we don't need a new house or car. We are owed nothing and must earn everything. Obama will be no worse than the other power hungry freaks in Politics, we have to do it ourselves. Our forefathers would frown upon the New America who appear homeless with a coffee cup extended to collect monies they believe they are owed.

There is very little that I agree with Obama. However, I am a USMC veteran during the vietnam era and Obama had no other decision but to remove McCrysthal. The military must always obey the civilian Commander in Chief or resign.

I wonder how someone so stupid as to make those remarks in an interview could possibly be smart enough to be in command of the military forces in a war.

I heard McChrystal's troops are planning a coup. They are going to replace this administration. Welcome to a new America.

Bottom line...Obama is attacked because he is a black man..period....if it was a white man, all of you racists would stand behind him fully.

Fact: It is the White House advisors who create the policy that the military executes.
Fact: The people in White House have no military experience.
Fact: People who have no experience are seldom any good at their jobs.
Fact: McChrystal was forced to execute a military policy that was enacted before he took the job and the White House has continually tinkered with it.
Fact: Over 1 million innocent civilian women and children have been killed by the U.S. in this "war of terror."

I am surprised that patraeus took the job because it is more likely that he will fail than succeed. Mr. Obama set unealistic expections for success and a quick pull out. Now, Mr. Obama owns this mess and it is another vietnam.

For all those righties talking tough about how the military hates Obama, please get your facts straight. Tho I can't blame you, you get those "facts" from Limbaugh and Fox News.

Bush cut benefits to veterans and active duty pay did not increase at the same rate it did under Clinton. Also, unlike most of you chickenhawks, those of us who do serve, do so on behalf of our families and the folks standing next to us. We aren't looking to have our superior officers take over the country, thank you very much.

Good call Mr.President and for the record may I remind everyone who got our country got us into this ridiculous war-George Bush-the worst president in American history! Remember he left us with the economic mess, left us with the war that had nothing to do with 911 and left us with his love of oil that allowed the oil companies to regulate themselves!!

    To answer a few questions:
Yes, he will receive a retirement.....he will also retire as a 4 Star General becasue that is the highest rank he achieved

The reason he is in trouble is he violated the Uniform Code of Military Justice....it could have been worse for him!

Any commissioned officer who uses contemptuous words against the President, the Vice President, Congress, the Secretary of Defense, the Secretary of a military department, the Secretary of Transportation, or the Governor or legislature of any State, Territory, Commonwealth, or possession in which he is on duty or present shall be punished as a court-martial may direct.

The general was insubordinate to his commander (grounds for removal of his command and also for removal from military service), placed the over all mission in jeapordy and also his troops that he was personally responsible for. I rally to the CIC, wise decsion to remove him and replace him with an extraordinary and proven military leader familar with the area.

As for all of these obvious biased comments about our President, he is the leader of the freeworld and getting no support or help from republican leaders and 23 to 30% of US citizens, yet, he fights on. I admire a person that would still fight to people who despise him,not because he's a democrat, simply because he's black. And for those of you that know who you are deep down inside of you with all of the paint you have tried to cover your arguments with which continue to be shown as proven lies, I feel sorry for you. Your journey is a painful one to the darkest realms of life.

i still believe that people of reason, integrityand objectivity will give our president an opportunity to be the president and people with obvious disdain for anyone that doesn't look like them to hold a public service office. Its sad to see that even in the military, this problem exists. One day this nation will get it right.....one day.

I don't think anyone cares if Obama is black or anything else. Lots of people don't like him, his policies, and his actions. I think people are falling out of love with a man who talked big and delivered very little so far – except spending us into oblivion.

Don't call people against Obama racist. That makes no sense and can be construed as racist in itself.

I think Obama should go back to "Boogie Boarding" in Hawaii and let the guys who are actual War Fighters do their Jobs. Obama is having enough time trying to correct the economic issues let alone be lead and war effort. This is why he is an incomplete President. I think he is going to be one and done at the White House.

Hero? Backstabber is more like it. He was appointed by Obama to the position he holds and this is how he shows loyalty and honor? He is an embarrassment to the profession of Military Officers.

Obama was right to dismiss him. It shows he had no intention of respect of the high office of the United States. He should be in the Brigg
