Caster Semenya can return to track, compete against women

Caster Semenya has been cleared to return back to the track.

South African world champion track star Caster Semenya, who was hampered by allegations regarding her gender, can return to her sport and compete alongside of other women, the International Association of Athletics Federations said Tuesday.

The 19-year-old track star was sidelined for 11 months because she was forced to undergo gender tests after she broke onto the scene with a stunning 800-meter victory at the world championships in August 2009 and controversy broke out over whether she is a man or a woman.

During the Berlin championships, where she won the gold in her first major event, Semenya attracted a lot of attention. Her muscular build, largely-improved times and widespread allegation about her gender sparked the IAAF to order the gender verification tests.

"The IAAF accepts the conclusion of a panel of medical experts that she can compete with immediate effect," the group said in a statement on the site. "Please note that the medical details of the case remain confidential and the IAAF will make no further comment on the matter

I am sure the panel of medical experts have confirmed that she is a woman. My question is what about steroid use? Have they checked on that or on male hormones?

Diane, you need to read up before posting. She has both male and female parts internally. She is externally a female.

Not really an issue of her physical anatomy, but more of an issue of her genes. She is physically a woman, but she holds more male genes I think causing the features and build.

I'm sorry but that is a young MAN. He likely has some genetic defect that caused his parents to raise him as a female but we need to send him to the Maury show for a DNA test because he has to have male DNA. I make no judgment on how he lives his life but he shouldn't be allowed to compete as a woman or else all drag queens should be allowed.

I'm pretty sure the IIAF knows more about genetics than either you or maury.

@those of you who are so cruel to Caster Semenya and probably towards other women whose body doesn't match your expectations, If you had a child who didn't match your expectations, would you be cruel to them too?

Do you realize how much hate you're sending out? Do you realize how much what you say hurts people around you?

I am disgusted by the comments on here. CLEARLY they tested her medically and doping testing was done as well (for all athletes).

May all of your children be so perfect and beautiful that you feel you can hurt others the way your words do.

Classless. Go back to your trailer parks and take a look in the mirror. This girl is more beautiful than your inner selves any day of the week.

Wow...you are cruel people. How dare you pass judgement about someone you know absolutely NOTHING about. I agree with TRegan... no wonder our young women are starving themselves and getting surgery at such young ages. The comments on this story about someone who has been so cruely convicted of being a person and a woman are just astounding at your ignorance. You should be ashamed of yourselves, each and every one of you.

What exactly do you mean by "...cruely (sic) convicted of being a person and a woman"?

sick sick sick progressive liberal world, next they will allow an ape to join the Olympics for political correctness... This is not a women maybe a chemically imbalanced guy who was raised as a non-male. I can not trust the "doctors" who already implied that it's a male with feminine looking gentiles but male internal testes.. oh the horror of it all! lol

...complaining about liberals, trusting your own "expert opinion" based on aesthetics over a scientific understanding. I don't know about the olympics, but it seems like they're letting apes use the internet.

seriously people how can you be so pigheaded? when women compete in such intense exercise & training, women actually stop getting their periods. they may spot because they don't get their periods full on their hormones are out of whack. so she's a girl but she may have a more manly appearance. & besides, have you people never seen female body builders? they are ripped like men & don't look exactly femanine.

& chi_girl mentioning Maury just reinterates the fact that all you judgemental freaks are trailer park trash. I believe actual doctor's over Maury anyday. these doctor's probably did more then genetic testing such as ultrasounds, CT scans, & more. everyone should remove their heads from their as*es before talking.
