Police: Shooter kills self, two others in workplace attack

Police respond to a workplace shooting in Albuquerque, New Mexico, on Monday.

[Updated at 5:44 p.m., July 12] Three people - not six, as police initially said - are dead after Monday's shooting at a business in Albuquerque, according to Police Chief Ray Schultz.

The three dead include the shooter, who turned a gun on himself, according to police.

[Updated at 2:58 p.m., July 12] A former employee shot and killed five people at a business Monday in Albuquerque before turning the gun on herself, New Mexico authorities said.

Police said officers responded to a 911 call at 9:26 a.m. (11:26 a.m. ET) that multiple shots had been fired. When officers entered the building, they found a total of 10 people shot: four were dead, including a man believed to be the shooter, officials said. CNN mistakenly reported earlier that the shooter was believed to be a woman.

Two people have died as a result of gunshot wounds, two are in stable condition, and two others are receiving emergency medical attention, police said.

"We believe this incident to be a domestic-violence workplace situation," Albuquerque Police Chief Ray Schultz said.

One of the victims, Schultz said, is believed to be the wife or girlfriend of the shooter, who was a current employee at Emcore Coporation.

According to CNN affiliate KRQE, police said the shooter had been involved in a past domestic violence incident.

Why does CNN allow a comments page on tragic stories such as this? Ordinary people are too stupid or myopic to add anything of value to the discussion.

Require/encourage people to carry firearms and say goodbye to all public events (sporting events, speeches, etc). What a wonderful world to live in!

We've had open carry in AZ for decades. No rash of shootings at concerts or sporting events or anything like that. Usually the only people who get killed by firearms are criminals and liberals who imagine that in a world where seconds count, the cops, who are only minutes away, might save them.

  4. What?

Most of you making arguments for or against guns cannot even spell or use correct grammar. Heck, you do not even know how to use punctuation or capitalization. Until you can intelligently argue a point, stop posting these ridiculous comments.

With proper gun control, there would be more dead. One shot one kill. True the gun did not kill anyone, but the idiot who was allowed to buy the gun killed them. Bet she was legal to buy it also.

With proper and widespread ownership of firearms, fewer people would be dead. The perp would have been quickly stopped by an armed citizen. Bet most of the dead were liberals who think that guns should be outlawed and that the cops will always arrive in time to save them.

KRQE, the originator of this story reports that "A 37-year-old man shot and killed five individuals as well as injured four others in a mass shooting at a Southeast Albuquerque business late Monday morning," - not a woman.

    Sloppy CNN, sloppy.

MSNBC reports that it was a MAN who killed his wife/girlfriend and shot all those people and himself. Not a woman. Has this been corrected?

Ok, here's the reality of it all. People are worked to the point they hate their lives and those around them. Stress in the workplace brings a general sense of despair and unhappiness in life. We need to turn back the clock to a time when people cared about people instead of the almighty dollar. It's not guns killing people, it's people killing people. American society as a whole is going down the tubes in a hurry! The pressure to keep up with the Jones' is immense, we need to teach our kids to live a simple life and be happy...and use guns to hunt food.

Because CNN and other liberal news agencies don't report those instances. It happened at the U. Virginia in 2002 for ex. An armed student took out a spree shooter. Same thing at the New Life Church in Colo Springs in 2007. Armed citizens stopping criminals happens daily.

Guns are not cars. Cars transport people and sometimes there are accidents and people die. Guns are designed to injure and kill. They do it very well and it is no accident. That is why we don't allow WMD's in the general public. In the control of a responsible government they act as a deterrent. In the hands of too many angry people they are terror weapons. They should be outlawed just the same. Change the law so that anyone with a hand gun gets 5 years in jail. That would really clean up the streets before and after the crime.

It was illegal for her to be carrying the gun she had. Doesnt look like that law stopped her from killing innocent unarmed people. ONE legal gun carrier could have prevented many of these deaths. And she probably wouldnt have needed to shoot herself.

Besides Military, Police, and Hunters, only cowards carry guns. The person who did the killing today was a low life coward.

      Albert,

My point is that gun should be arrested, convicted after a fair trial, then thrown in jail. After all that gun is a murderer. Right? hmmm. Should semi-automatics should do more time than revolvers? Another point: Grow up.
