Police: Shooter kills self, two others in workplace attack

Police respond to a workplace shooting in Albuquerque, New Mexico, on Monday.

[Updated at 5:44 p.m., July 12] Three people - not six, as police initially said - are dead after Monday's shooting at a business in Albuquerque, according to Police Chief Ray Schultz.

The three dead include the shooter, who turned a gun on himself, according to police.

[Updated at 2:58 p.m., July 12] A former employee shot and killed five people at a business Monday in Albuquerque before turning the gun on herself, New Mexico authorities said.

Police said officers responded to a 911 call at 9:26 a.m. (11:26 a.m. ET) that multiple shots had been fired. When officers entered the building, they found a total of 10 people shot: four were dead, including a man believed to be the shooter, officials said. CNN mistakenly reported earlier that the shooter was believed to be a woman.

Two people have died as a result of gunshot wounds, two are in stable condition, and two others are receiving emergency medical attention, police said.

"We believe this incident to be a domestic-violence workplace situation," Albuquerque Police Chief Ray Schultz said.

One of the victims, Schultz said, is believed to be the wife or girlfriend of the shooter, who was a current employee at Emcore Coporation.

According to CNN affiliate KRQE, police said the shooter had been involved in a past domestic violence incident.

Corey why don't you post the "real" facts not your facts. Remember you have a right to your opinion but not the facts..

The only problem with the gun laws is that a private citizen DOES NOT need a semi-automatic or an automatic weapon. There is no hunting purpose for such a weapon. Two years ago at a 4th of July celebration they were raffleing off an M16 with a fully functional grenade launcher attached. Anybody who thinks they need a weapon like this is not thinking about hunting animals. How stupid are you people????

Actually, there are fully legitimate reasons to own semiautos for hunting, defense, and target shooting. Fortunately, however, the 2nd Amendment demands no "reason" to own a firearm just as the 1st Amendment demands no reason to be allowed to speak.

Driving while drunk is illegal and stupid, and is done daily by thousands (tens of thousands? who knows), and kills HOW MANY thousands of people a year? I've lost a young friend to a drunk driver, had a friend/acquaintance lose their license to drive due to DUI, but I've never had a friend shot/killed by somebody with a gun. Yeah, these shooting stories make big headlines and produce major outbursts of opinion, but are a small patch of reality, much like airline crashes. The devil is in the details, and look at far more common and tacitly "accepted" ways to die/kill: drunk driving, smoking, drug use, etc. There doesn't seem to be as much outcry since now we're "used to it", desensitized to it. Until it happens close to home, anyways...

Supreme Court judge, Clarence Thomas recently said the reason why he votes for less gun control is because it will allow blacks in the cities to own and carry guns to protect themselves because country and suburban Whites already have guns so Blacks should also.
Notwithstanding I think everybody should own a gun and it should be sold at the Supermarket like food, betcha there would be less women getting beaten and no more nosy neighbors, and in apartments that guy upstairs won't blast his TV/stereo anymore.

For an assassin (she was an assassin) to be successful the only requirement is that they be willing to trade their life for the life of the target.

Let us all become domesticated. Let us forfeit the first and second amendments. You people are soft. Let us ban hammers, baseballbats, steak knives, ect. While we are at it, let us just chop off our hands and toes too. Pillows don't kill people, people do.

Heh. Can't you just imagine some of the anti's arguments being directed at other rights? "The State has a legitimate reason to properly register and require training from people before they can own pencils, computers, and typewriters, lest they incite someone to riot." "Only Law Enforcement Officers and the Military should be allowed to engage in Free Speech." etc.

I did see a newspaper article about a gang of white kids going to this black family home calling out the black kid to fight and the home owner shot one of the white kids, but that was in the Suburbs – Tough luck black or white you go to fight you take what come to you even hot lead.

This is a tragedy. There is no simple answer to the gun issue. Recently there has been a move by the NRA to for municipalities to provide concealed gun permits to domestic violence perps and felons. This is not acceptable. While I realize that it is impossible to keep guns out of the hands of criminals, untrained private citizens pose as much of a threat with legal weapons. This is not a black or white issue and never has been. The argument that the weapon would be used for defense is nonsensical from the stand point that a person would most likely be dead before having an opportunity to use the weapon. The risk of 'friendly fire' injuries and deaths becomes more possible as more people pack concealed. Even highly trained individuals make mistakes with weapons. It is more than time to have meaningful dialogue on this issue–not just repeating popular 'sound bites'. This is a serious concern for every citizen of this country.

Actually, the NRA does not support ownership of firearms by convicted felons. you ought to either educate yourself or at least commit yourself to basic truthfulness.

If Obama says rounding up and deporting 13 million illegal immigrants is impossible how do you expect to round up the 300 million privately owned guns in the U.S.? Personally, I think Obama is a loser without vision. I think 300 million guns can round up 13 million illegals. No problem because the law abiding illegals are all unarmed... right? lol again.
