Sports Update: MLB All-Star Game

David Ortiz has officially put a season-starting slump behind him.

Hitting just .143 with one home run in April, the Red Sox designated hitter went from “first-month chump to Home Run Derby champ,” writes SI.com’s Joe Lemire as Big Papi topped the Marlins’ Hanley Ramirez 11-5 in the finals; Ortiz finished with 32 total home runs.

With the MLB All-Star Game prelude in the books, all eyes will be on the 81st Midsummer Classic in Angels Stadium of Anaheim as the National League tries to break through for its first win in 13 years (8 p.m. FOX).

The NL will start 15-game winner Ubaldo Jimenez of the Rockies with home-field advantage in the World Series on the line, while the AL opens with the Rays’ David Price (12-4).

Too bad the World Cup is over. Now there's nothing on TV but that silly game where 2 people on a team are actually doing something while their 7 teammates stand around spitting and hoping the ball doesn't get hit to them by the only guy doing something on the other team of nine... Geez, baseball is a sport about as much as chess. However, the homerun derby thing is pretty cool.

as a father myself ,I'm callin' you out & questioning your definition of a sport;Hemingway said the only true sports were bullfghtng, autoracng&mnt climbing +boxing. The rest are all games. So ,sure baseballs a game as is chess- but its the fastest ,intellectually quick & faith based game of all- even Mjordan & Bo Jackson'll tell ya aint nothin hrder than hitting a little hard-aSs ball goin 100mph with a cylindrical wooden stick after putting yourself in front of the projectile w/only a leather mitt between you and its fury for 15-20min.....about 9 cyclics of that.....yeah-todays uninitiated don't knw wht their TVattentionspans are missin. @least let yer kid(s) find out themselves cause its a treat for life......
