World Update: Iraqi hotel blaze kills 29

Iraq blaze: Women, children and foreigners were among 29 people killed in a fire Thursday night at the Soma hotel in the city of Sulaymaniyah, northern Iraq, police and health officials said. Read more

Explosion in Mexican border town: Three people were killed in Ciudad Juarez, Mexico, Thursday night, including two police officers and a paramedic, authorities said. A federal police spokesman said the blast was caused by either a grenade or a car bomb. Read more

UK troops claim: A man claiming to be the Afghan soldier who killed three British troops this week contacted the BBC to say he acted alone, the British broadcaster has reported. Read more

Suu Kyi's former assistant free: A former aide to detained pro-democracy leader Aung San Suu Kyi has been released from a prison in northern Myanmar after spending more than 20 years behind bars, officials said Friday. Read more

Clooney testifies: Actor George Clooney will appear in an Italian court to testify. His likeness was allegedly used without his permission to promote a fashion show and a clothing line.

Henry retires: France's all-time leading goalscorer Thierry Henry has announced his retirement from international soccer. Henry confirmed his decision on the day he was presented as a New York Red Bulls player. Read more

British Open: The second round of the British Open is underway at St. Andrews in Scotland. Rory McIlory started the day with a two shot lead. Read more
