1 killed, 10 wounded in Bangkok explosion

A bomb exploded Sunday in front of a busy shopping area in Bangkok, Thailand, killing at least one man, authorities said.

Ten others were wounded an taken to three hospitals, according to a government emergency center. The 51-year-old man died while hospitalized for his injuries, authorities said.

    I am due to go to thailand with a tour firm in october, and i have read all kinds of reveiws.All i want to know in plain english, IS IT SAFE TO GO THERE ON HOLIDAY? Please can anyone put my mind at rest.

      Hi Stu,

      Yes, Thailand is safe. Just avoid any big gatherings you might see and avoid Bangkok if possible. The rest of the country is perfectly safe. I've lived in Phuket for 18 years. There has been no trouble in my area for the entire time I've been there.

    I believe it is safe as well. Thailand is a city of 8 million people, and if you let 11 people getting hit in a bomb blast worry you, you're cheating yourself out of a good trip. Much more than 11 people are murdered in some parts of the United States everyday! So, don't worry. Life is normal here in Bangkok. At least for now.
