Bill Cosby: I'm alive. Now, please cut it out
Bill Cosby is used to winking at internet rumors of his death. But after another one spread Monday, he said he hopes people will give the hoaxes a rest.
After false news of Cosby’s death spread by Twitter on Monday - "Bill Cosby died" was a trending topic on the microblogging service - the 73-year-old comedian talked to CNN's "Larry King Live" to prove he still is around.
"I don't want [whoever spread the rumor] to do this anymore, because this is my fourth time being reported [dead]," Cosby said by phone to CNN’s Kyra Phillips, who was sitting in for Larry King on Monday night.
Cosby used his wit to counter previous rumors. After the first, he borrowed a Mark Twain quote about reports of his death being an exaggeration.
But Cosby said Monday's rumor felt different. He said it left one of his friends in tears before he realized it wasn’t true.
"I don't know. Maybe a psychiatrist will say I'm feeding [the rumor starter's] ego, but I just want to say to friends of that person: Just tell him to stop, because it isn't funny."
On his own Twitter account, Cosby still went for a bit of humor Monday when refuting the rumor.
"Again, I'm rebuttaling rumors about my demise. But, I'm confirming I have an app," Cosby wrote before linking to an iPhone application featuring clips of the comedian's performances.

Cosby is a perceptive , objective, and iconic figure of the last 40 years. A fine gentleman whose loss would be immeasurable.
I do not know where Cosby stands on racial things which is one reason I like him. He doesn't try to take every breath to remind us that we are different. He is a comedian who has always tried to keep his humor clean enough for any member of the family to hear and not be embarrased. I think he is a great American hero.

It is news to people who are interested. They are the ones who care. Cosby is not irrelevant to them.. That is why they read the story. That's the way news works. People who are interested read the story. People who are not interested read something else so they do not have to complain about the story. SImple!

He is the only living comedian whose wit, intelligence and sense of humor, truthfully tickled ALL of my funny bones 🙂 mmm well, I'm not so sure suddenly, are Lucille Ball and Carol Burnette both still living? 😉 Oh dang, just remembered John Candy and Robin Williams too... probably are a few more (hehehehe)
I also love and respect Bill C. but the problem is that he does not give to black charities or even promotes them. He just talks about the problems in the black communities and gives noting to make the problems he sees any better.

Oh get a life, Matthew. Cosby is about as far from being a racist as you can get. In fact, there have been times where he's smacked down black people and told them like it is. He's a good guy as far as I can tell.

So what? He raised money for her legal fund because she lied to him. If anyone in that fiasco is a racist it's Sharpton.
He offered a reward for information leading to the truth about the case. I don't think that makes him racist... I think that makes him a good man. When facts started to come to light about the reports being falsified, he withdrew his offer, as any sensible person would do.

I think this is just proof that people need to stop believing everything they hear, especially from some no account website like Twitter. People are idiots these days. And worse yet, they're apparently TRUSTING idiots. People lie. You all need to realize that and only believe a source worth trusting, which isn't Twitter.

Doesn't Bill Cosby realize that by speaking publicly on this matter that he is giving the idiot who started these rumors exactly what they want? The Internet is full of these juvenile pranksters who love nothing more than seeing something they started or created end up on the national scene. I understand that he is upset by all of this, and he should be, but appearing on national television to give credence and acknowledgment to this falsehood is just playing right into the hands of the people who leaked it in the first place. I don't know the right way to handle that situation, but this is not it.
He's not doing it for whomever started the stupid rumor, he's doing it for all his fans and friends that were hurt by the rumor. The idiot who started it should feel ashamed of himself after what Cosby said, not proud.
