Bill Cosby: I'm alive. Now, please cut it out

Bill Cosby is used to winking at internet rumors of his death. But after another one spread Monday, he said he hopes people will give the hoaxes a rest.

After false news of Cosby’s death spread by Twitter on Monday - "Bill Cosby died" was a trending topic on the microblogging service - the 73-year-old comedian talked to CNN's "Larry King Live" to prove he still is around.

"I don't want [whoever spread the rumor] to do this anymore, because this is my fourth time being reported [dead]," Cosby said by phone to CNN’s Kyra Phillips, who was sitting in for Larry King on Monday night.

Cosby used his wit to counter previous rumors. After the first, he borrowed a Mark Twain quote about reports of his death being an exaggeration.

But Cosby said Monday's rumor felt different. He said it left one of his friends in tears before he realized it wasn’t true.

"I don't know. Maybe a psychiatrist will say I'm feeding [the rumor starter's] ego, but I just want to say to friends of that person: Just tell him to stop, because it isn't funny."

On his own Twitter account, Cosby still went for a bit of humor Monday when refuting the rumor.

"Again, I'm rebuttaling rumors about my demise. But, I'm confirming I have an app," Cosby wrote before linking to an iPhone application featuring clips of the comedian's performances.

I agree whole heart fully with you Michelle! I grew up watching Mr. Cosby, he is a wonderful, beautiful, man, and his humor at what life dishes out for him is awesome! I hope that whom ever is spreading these types of rumors would just stop. It is a cruel and very upsetting thing to do to Mr. Cosby and his entire family and his friends as well. God Bless you Mr. Cosby and thank you for giving the gift of making people smile! =)

I agree with Mr. Cosby...this is not funny at all...it was shocking to see the other day, since to me he is an important person...his work is important to me, from The Electric Company to Fat Albert to 80s Cosby Show, during which (every Thurs 8:00PM-8:30PM) my phone was always turned off and answering machine volume turned down. I wonder what the perpetrator gets from this behavior...if he or she thinks about the jarring impact on other people, and if s/he does, is this impact what makes them happy? Getting pleasure from other people's distress, isn't that sadism? There's more than enough real bad news...it's hard to grasp why someone would add fake bad news to the plentiful real stuff.

Please stop killing Bill Cosby before his time. What if God gives him a long life...like over 100 years?

Who cares about bill cosby one way or another. He was never funny, nor was he a good actor. And when his son was killed his wife promptly blamed America. I change the channel when one of his stupid shows comes on, not funny. As far as I'm concerned, he is dead, and no big deal.
